The Three R's of a Volunteer Management System ~ Recruitment, Retention and Recognition
Volunteers help to keep community organizations sustainable and viable. But volunteer management can be challenging. It requires effective planning in terms of Recruitment, Retention and Recognition.
The United Nations was created in 1945 to replace the failed League of Nations and provide a forum for international cooperation. It has 193 member states and works to maintain peace and security, promote human rights, and achieve sustainable development goals. The main UN organs are the General Assembly, Security Council, Secretariat, Economic and Social Council, International Court of Justice, and Trusteeship Council (now inactive). The General Assembly comprises all member states and addresses international issues, while the Security Council has primary responsibility for peace and security issues.
The document discusses the protection of human rights at the universal, national, and regional levels. It outlines the key international instruments that establish and promote human rights, including the UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. It also describes the primary UN bodies that work on human rights issues, such as the Human Rights Commission and its sub-committees. Finally, it discusses some regional human rights frameworks in Europe, Africa, the Americas, and the Arab world.
Transitional justice is a response to widespread human rights abuses that seeks recognition for victims and promotion of peace, reconciliation, and democracy. It emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s in response to transitions to democracy in Latin America and Eastern Europe. Transitional justice includes criminal prosecutions, truth commissions, reparations programs, and memorialization efforts. The goals of transitional justice are transformation of society, reconstruction, repairing damage done, and reconciliation. It involves both restorative justice through truth and forgiveness, and social justice through reforms and reparations.
This document provides a history of social welfare and social work in Europe, the United States, and the Philippines from the 16th to 20th centuries. It describes how early social welfare efforts focused on poor relief through alms giving and workhouses. Over time, organized public systems and institutions developed to aid individuals and groups. The emergence of social work as a distinct profession in the late 19th/early 20th century aimed to facilitate social adjustment through scientific techniques and training. Settlement houses and medical social work were pioneers in establishing social work practice.
Case managers advocate for and coordinate patient care during crises or after life-changing events like illness, injury, or accidents. They communicate with medical professionals, loved ones, and insurance providers to ensure patients receive the highest quality, specialized care that meets their needs. As communicators and confidants, case managers also support families by keeping them informed and helping patients address new challenges. Case managers work across various specialties like healthcare, mental health, addiction, and senior care to assess clients' comprehensive needs and facilitate appropriate services and resources.
Regional Limitations and Universality of Human Rights NormsYuyun Wahyuningrum
The document provides an overview of regional human rights systems in Europe, Africa, and the Americas and compares them to the emerging system in Southeast Asia. Some key similarities across regional systems include recognizing human rights as an objective in the founding treaty, conditioning membership on human rights criteria, effective implementation monitoring, and independent supervisory bodies like a commission or court to promote and protect rights. The ASEAN system differs in that its charter does not reference human rights criteria for membership and its 2012 Declaration emphasizes national laws over universalizing norms. Critics argue this makes rights too restrictive and vulnerable to limitations in practice.
This document discusses strategies for recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers. It provides information on:
- The benefits volunteers provide both tangible (worth $162 billion in 2008) and intangible
- Common volunteer demographics and motivations
- Effective recruitment techniques like targeting specific groups, crafting compelling benefits, and using clear job descriptions
- The importance of orientation and training to prepare volunteers and ensure role clarity
- Recognition as the most important tool for retention given the high cost of losing engaged volunteers
The document offers guidance across each phase of the volunteer lifecycle to maximize volunteer engagement and contributions.

Op basis van het antwoord van de bevoegde minister in het parlement kunnen we afleiden dat een mannelijke zelfstandige in de visserijsector het meeste verdient.
Tegelijk is daar de loonkloof tussen mannen en vrouwen wel het grootst.
Is heaven a real place? How can we know for certain? Why does John describe heaven in negative terms? Are there really pearly gates and streets of gold in heaven? Will heaven be boring?
Do those in heaven know what’s happening on earth? How do you know for certain you are going to heaven when you die? These and of questions are addressed in this study of Revelation 21:1-7.
This document provides an industrial real estate market overview for Austin, Texas in Q3 2016. It includes data on vacancy rates, average asking rental rates, available square footage, and absorption by property type (warehouse and flex/R&D) and submarket. The citywide warehouse vacancy rate was 4.7% in Q3 2016, down from the previous quarter, while flex/R&D space saw a vacancy rate of 7.3%. The document discusses the New Zealand Department of Corrections and its role in improving public safety. It does not determine sentencing or release of prisoners, but rather ensures offenders serve their sentences. There are around 8,400 prisoners held in 20 prisons, with the majority being Māori or male. Rehabilitation programs aim to reduce reoffending through education, job training, and community reintegration support. While deterrence and punishment are goals, rehabilitation programs have been shown to be most effective at reducing reoffending long-term.

Irish Red Cross first aid prison programmeirishredcross
The Community Based Health & First Aid Prison Programme was originally designed by the International Red Cross to raise health awareness through peer education. Ireland was the first to introduce the programme in prisons in 2009. It has since benefited over 6,000 prisoners and staff. The programme helps prisoners gain skills while educating others on first aid, disease prevention, and health promotion. Evaluations found prisoners experienced improved self-belief, goals, and desire to help their community after participating.
Putting Fuel on the Fire - Advocacy in the NorthCitizen Network
Simon Duffy gave this talk at the North East and Cumbria Advocacy Conference on 30th March 2017 in Newcastle. He explores why citizenship matters and what are the challenges we face in the years ahead.
Making Citizenship Real - what self-directed support is really all aboutCitizen Network
These slides were used as part of a talk to in Finland as advocates and professionals begin to think about what the new policy of personal budgets will mean in practice. Dr Simon Duffy of the Centre for Welfare Reform reflected on some of the international learning on the meaning of self-directed support.
1. Volunteerism is defined as freely contributing one's time and talents without compensation to help others. It promotes values like peace, solidarity, and trust.
2. Volunteers are expected to demonstrate commitment, professionalism, and support for teamwork. Volunteer opportunities exist in many areas based on interests like animals, arts, sports, or career goals like teaching.
3. Community service undertaken by students includes tutoring, assisting those with disabilities, first aid training, and serving in youth programs. It aims to improve lives and address community needs.
Mental Health Ireland Annual Conference 2014 - Arás Folláin Peer SupportMental Health Ireland
The document summarizes the history and services of Aras Follain Peer Support Centre. It began in 2004 as a peer befriending project and the first peer support training model. In 2006, more formal training was conducted and the center was officially opened in 2007. Aras Follain aims to empower individuals through peer support, generating a non-judgmental environment for wellness, recovery, social support, self-care programs and reducing isolation. It offers various support groups and training programs and is run by a steering committee of peer representatives.
The Care Quality Commission conducted a review of end of life care in England to examine inequalities. They found that while the quality of end of life care varies, some groups experience worse care coordination and have their needs overlooked. Specifically, people with conditions besides cancer, older adults, those with dementia or from minority groups may face barriers. The review highlighted examples of good local practices that promote personalized care and address inequalities. The CQC will use its findings to strengthen regulation and assessment of end of life care quality and encourage continued improvement in meeting individual needs.
Several organizations provide support to individuals leaving prison by helping with issues like housing, employment, education, and social exclusion. They offer services like advocacy, referrals to legal aid, mentoring connections to local churches, and guidance on disclosure of criminal records. Their goals are to help break the cycle of reoffending by providing the social and practical support needed for successful rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Consumers or Citizens, Families, and Communities in ControlCitizen Network
This document discusses citizens and communities taking control through self-directed support. It acknowledges past elders and expresses a mixture of hope and fear around ongoing change and uncertainty in federal systems. The document discusses true citizenship as finding purpose, freedom, community, and love rather than being defined by services or institutions. It presents examples of self-directed support in other countries and ways that services could change to support self-management and community organizations. The document outlines examples of community organizations taking action and ways people can work together for social change, such as developing new ideas and narratives, and organizing to create power through pride and unity rather than giving power away.
Presentation Dr. David Blazey and Tony Holmes #srhRINO #recoveryLiveOnlineEvents
The document discusses partnerships that South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) has formed to promote recovery from mental health issues. It provides several examples of successful partnerships between SLaM and other organizations like charities, non-profits, universities, and community groups. These partnerships allow SLaM to expand its services and provide additional support to patients through activities like volunteering, peer support, arts programs, gardening, and SLaM's Recovery College, which was founded on principles of co-production between patients and clinicians. The document argues that the best partnerships are built on shared vision, mutual trust, and recognition of each partner's contributions.

The document summarizes the Whatton Circles project, the first prison-based Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) in the UK. The Safer Living Foundation established Whatton Circles to provide social support to prisoners leaving HMP Whatton who are at high risk of reoffending due to intellectual disabilities, older age, or lack of family/community ties. Whatton Circles aims to start circles for 4 prisoners per year over 3 years. The research evaluates the impact of circles on reducing reoffending and improving well-being, by comparing circle members to a control group and conducting interviews. The research aims to provide evidence on the effectiveness of CoSA and inform practice internationally.
