Aloha, I am Lynn Taylor, President and CEO of Kauai Sea Farm
Even though we live in an island state -
Locally sourced seafood is desperately lacking in the State of Hawaii.
Hawaii imports 90% of it's food.
Kaua'i Sea Farm combines ancient Hawaiian practices
with new technologies to provide locally sourced seafood.
Our projects and innovations in seafood production will benefit
other Hawaiian fishponds and our coastal environment.
Kauai Sea Farm is dedicated to the practice of RESTORATIVE AQUACULTURE which means that our practices and methods of growing food will benefit nature, improving the health of the waters, land and animals whose planet we share!
The reefs and sea life are already showing signs of benefiting from the
revitalization of the Nomilo Fishpond , the base of Kaua'i Sea Farm operations. Nomilo's algae rich water flows into the ocean which attracts fish all along our shoreline. An abundance of Monk Seals and Green Sea Turtles can always be found along the adjacent beaches and rocks - another good indicator of the health of this shoreline.
My husband Thayne Taylor, Vice President and Chief Operating Office formed Kauai Sea Farm in 2017.
I am a 3rd generation native Hawaiian descendent. My family
has owned and been stewards of Nomilo and the adjacent
60 acres of coastline property for over 100 years
Nomilo is an 18-acre brackish water pond.
Kaua'i Sea Farm holds a perpetual lease on the Nomilo property
Hawaiians were practicing integrated and restorative aquaculture
in their fishponds for over 1000 years.
Kaua'i Sea Farm has the unique opportunity to revive and expand upon
this centuries old practice.
Our hatchery and nursery are operational and run totally on solar power.
We have successfully spawned, reared and marketed our clams for the last 2 years.
Kauai Sea Farm has the only functioning commercial sea cucumber hatchery in the U.S.
We have successfully completed the larval cycle of the sea cucumbers
and anticipate marketable juvenile size animals in 2023-2024
We have developed a land-based nursery system for the grow-out of our oysters which will
make growing oysters more efficient and cost-effective.
We will be utilizing Kaua'i Sea Farm's hatchery and experience
to expand production of Sea Cucumbers, Sea Urchins and
development of a Coral Restoration Nursery
Kaua'i Sea Farm also has had success growing and marketing the
highly desirable edible seaweed Ogo, a project we are planning to expand upon.
By choice, we have we have a very diversified revenue stream.
Integrated multi-trophic systems are a more efficient and a healthier alternative
for the environment than mono-culture systems.
From a business point of view we look at product diversification as an essential
risk reduction factor.
We partner with non-profits, state agencies and university researchers.
We have personally invested $750,000 to start-up Kauai Sea Farm.
We have successfully secured $450,000 in funding for innovative research,
hatchery expansion and for coastal restoration.
We will be utilizing Kaua'i Sea Farm's hatchery and experience
to expand production of Sea Cucumbers, Sea Urchins and
development of a Coral Restoration Nursery
We have already proven our ability to compete successfully for grant funding and and feel confident that our Hatchery alone can acquire at least 250k annually in grants for continued innovative research.
There is a huge demand for locally sourced seafood products in Hawaii -
this presents Kaua'i Sea Farm with exceptional opportunities in the
local Hawaii seafood market alone.
We had a market study done on Sea Cucumbers by the University of New England.
It showed there is a billion dollar import market opportunity in the U.S.
and substantial opportunities exporting to East and S.E. Asia.
750K Metric Tons of Sea Cucumbers are imported into the U.S. yearly
most coming from Mexico - once in the U.S. they are sent to the Asia Market.
Our sea cucumber program has tremendous potential to open a new market for the State of Hawaii.
The founders of Kaua'i Sea Farm have a proven track record in successful start up businesses.
Our science team has wide ranging experience in sustainable and restorative aquaculture.
Thayne and I have a proven track record in successful start up businesses.
Kaua'i Sea Farm continues to have tremendous support from the local community -
educators, environmentalists, fishing community, local businesses and cultural advocates.
Mahalo for your time. We are happy to start conversations with companies or investors that share our vision.
Aloha!
