African American Stereotypes Reality Television
Reality programs have dominated television networks since their rise in popularity began in the
early 1990s with MTV s The Real World. The reality genre quickly gained viewership as it
redefined the formulaic set up of televisions shows from the past. Reality television has infiltrated
television because networks prefer low budgets for their programs that also generate high ratings
(Hasinoff, 2008). People watch reality shows because they are intrigued by the seemingly real
drama with ordinary people as characters (Dubrofsky, 2006). Now at its peak of growth, reality
televisionevokes ideas of social order and cultural norms to its audiences, while perpetuating racial
stereotypes in society (Mendible, 2004). My purpose of the review of... Show more content on

Reality show characters are often shown in embarrassing situations and their personal matters are
publicized to the world. The research found that frequent viewers of reality TV highly value
revenge, competition, and achieving status and prestige (Mendible, 2004, p. 336). Mendible further
discussed reality television s strategic use of humiliation as a form of entertainment to draw in
viewers (Mendible, 2004). With constant exposure to media images, audiences may be
influenced by the television show s values and subliminal messages. People use reality television
as an informational tool to people watch and observe what is socially acceptable or not (Tyree,
2011, p. 397). The problem with using television to observe and decipher social norms with is
that reality shows are not actually based on real events. Reality television contains fictional
aspects that allow producers to manipulate situations that appear to be real on screen. In order to
keep their characters interesting and easily recognizable throughout the season, a show must
clearly establish heroes, villains and supporting characters to keep their audience coming back
for more (Tyree, 2011, p. 395). This involves the heavy use of racial stereotypes in their shows
because it allows for quick character development as well as cheap entertainment. The way a
particular race or culture is represented on reality television can adversely affect the way society
views that

Impact of a Deaf Child on Families
Impact of a Deaf Child on Families
A bird calls and the phone rings. Yet the girl makes no move to listen to one or to answer the
other. A baby s cry goes ignored and the tea kettle on the stove continues to whistle. Most, but not
all cases of childhood deafness and hearing impairment are diagnosed between the ages of 18
months and 3 years old (Mapp 50). Sometimes called the invisible handicap, hearing loss explains
why sign language is the third most used language in the United States (Jones 54). While
recognition of sight problems or physical impairments may be triggered by spotting eye glasses or
a wheelchair, deafness must be discovered through acts of direct communication. The girl walks

trying on husbands as they are trying to reassure their wives that everything will be fine while
privately attempting to deal with their own deep and emotional grief (Luterman et al. 7). The
separate roles each parent takes on complement each other by providing unique skills for their child.
One of the most emotional taxing yet gratifying parts of raising a deaf child is that the mother is
typically the one member of the family most capable of communicating with the deaf child. She
becomes not only a mother, but an educator, social guidance counselor, communication specialist,
interpreter, and audiologist consultant (Mapp 15). The girl s mother went to the school district
when the girl entered high school hoping sign language classes were available as a precaution in
case her half deaf child continued to lose her hearing. They refused to even consider letting sign
language qualify for her foreign language requirement. Another recurring theme in the challenges
faced by parents is the abundance of ignorance in the faculty of school systems themselves. One
frustrated parent wrote said about mainstreaming her deaf child into a hearing school, ...the teacher

Informative Speech On Greek Culture
[4]Since most people believe that the dead would return to the earth on this night, they would
light bonfires and [5]they would wear costumes that were terrifying to the eye and would create
a sense of fear and disturbance. The reasons for these scary costumes were because people were
afraid souls of the dead would recognize the living and they were used as a disguise to ward off any
spirits roaming.
Unlike the past, our present day version is somewhat different from the festival of Samhain (sow
in). Today, we celebrate by carving pumpkins into Jack o lanterns, buying costumes, having parties,
trick or treating and even pranking. Some people even decorated their front lawns with huge,
inflatable pumpkins or spiders.
It seems like the both are kind of celebrated the same, and there are similarities but there are also

costumes and they were both celebrated in the fall. The differences, however, outnumber the

The Angel Of Death Research Paper
The Angel of Death
The Nazi party rose to power in 1933 under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, and would soon
unleash a reign of terror and death upon Europe. However, Hitler was not directly responsible for
all of the terror to ensue; there were many Nazi followers and soldiers who committed unspeakable
crimes of war and other atrocious acts even as far as crimes against humanity. One such man was
Dr. Josef Mengele.
Mengele was born March 16th, 1911 in GГјnzburg, Germany. He received his Ph. D. in physical
anthropology in 1935, when he was 24 from the University of Munich. A few years later, in 1937
he was the assistant to Dr. Otmar von Vercheur who was famous for his research on twins. In
1945, Mengele fled Germany. He was caught by US soldiers who later released him, not realizing
who exactly he was. Mengele was never found alive again. It was said that after he escaped, he
befriended a Nazi supporter in Brazil named Wolfgang Gerhard, who hid Mengele for years and

out while they were unknowingly being led to their demise.
Josef Mengele was a revered scholar and one of the most infamous members of the Nazi party

experimentation and torture on twins and many others. In most pictures found of Mengele he is

Richard Van Camp s The Night Charles Bukowski Died
When defining the term manhood , many people may use terms such as courage, strength, or
bravery. Throughout history there have been many pressures on men to be as stereotypically
manly as possible. If men don t conform to those stereotypes, they may be looked down upon by
society as a whole. Richard Van Camp s short story The Night Charles BukowskiDied is a prime
example of the dangers of nonconformity to stereotypically manly traits. The story is an intense
first person stream of consciousness from the point of view of an unnamed narrator that follows
the narrator and three of his peers: Mikey, Jason, and Scott. The use of metaphor, point of view,
and setting in The Night Charles Bukowski Died exposes how stereotypical expectations of
manhood can lead to dangerous situations not only physically, but also socially and emotionally.
Van Camp makes use of metaphor to compare three distinct situations in the story relating to
manhood to animals. When Jason and the narrator are encouraging Mikey to be strong, the
narrator tells a brief story of an elder who was courageous enough to stand between a grizzly bear
and his grandson with just an ax and an attitude of surrender being completely out of the question
(33). In this situation, the narrator is doing his best to instill a fighting attitude in Mikey instead of
just letting him accept that Scott is bullying him. Later in the story as the narrator, Jason, and
Mikey are about to beat up Scott, the narrator recalls a lion

Cordelia As A Christ-Like Figure In Ian Hunter s King Lear
Cordelia as a Christ like figure is understandable based on the answer she gives her father in
response to his question of love. Does she love him as her sisters do? Goneril and Regan give
unabashedly extravagant answers that contain nothing more than empty flattery and meaningless
words of love. However, Cordelia is the only daughter who gives an honest answer to his question.
In the playKing Lear, Cordelia responds, Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave/ My heart into my
mouth. I loveyour majesty/ According to my bond; no more, no less (I.i.90 92). Cordelia accepts
the king as her father and her sovereign, and she loves him accordingly, but he is not a God like
figure to her. Honesty, in this instance, is more important to King Lear s youngest daughter, rather
than ego stroking. When she answers that she cannot heave her heart into her mouth, she
understands that she will not baste him in meaningless flattery just to gain his wealth. This is the
moment in the play that Cordelia s virtue and love are revealed, setting into motion the idea that
she is a Christ like figure. Ian Hunter, author of the Christian article Lear, Cordelia, the Cross
presumes the play is more than just an allegory to parts of the Bible. He compares this play to John
Milton s Paradise Lost. Hunter states that the conversation between Lear and Kent in which Kent is
banished reveals another key element to the play. He states,

Essay on Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman is
wrought with symbolism from the opening scene. Many symbols illustrate the themes of success
and failure. They include the apartment buildings, the rubber hose, Willy s brother Ben, the tape
recorder, and the seeds for the garden. These symbols represent Willy s attempts to be successful
and his impending failure. When Willy and Linda purchased their home in Brooklyn, it seemed far
removed form the city. Willy was young and strong and he believed he had a future full of success.
He and his sons cut the tree limbs that threatened his home and put up a hammock that he would
enjoy with his children. The green fields... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His wife Linda, who finds the hose, knows what he was going to do with it, as does Biff. When
confronted by Biff, Willy not only denies that he was going to use the hose, but also denies ever
seeing it before. Instead of being remembered as a successful businessman who died, Willy is
seen by his family as a failure who cannot even commit suicide or tell the truth. Willy s brother
Ben seems to symbolize all of Willy s dreams that have not borne fruit. Ben provides an example
of the type of success that Willy desires. Ben went into the jungle with nothing and became
extremely wealthy. Ben achieved in a few years what Willy has dreamed about his entire life.
Ben also provides additional evidence on the foolish behavior and poor decisions made by
Willy. Ben offers to take Willy with him and make him rich an offer that Willy declines. Another
important symbol is Howard s tape recorder. It represents the many material objects wealthy
businessmen could provide for their families and for themselves. Willy wanted this lifestyle; he
wanted something he could lay his hands on (Miller pg. ). It would not be enough to just be
successful; Willy wanted to be able to show people material representations of his success. The
tape recorder shows that Howard has reached this level of success. Yet while the recorder
symbolizes the wealth and power of Howard, it also represents Willy s discouragement and

Why Did Edgar Allan Poe Use Allusion
With a dash of allusion, a sprinkle of imagery, and a pint of dark diction, once they all mix, you
get the dark and scary mood created in Edgar Allan Poe s writing. Edgar Allan Poe is a poetic
writer and is well known for his dark and scary stories and story elements. Edgar Allan Poe uses
figurative language, strong diction, and spooky words to build the mood in his works. Allusion
is one of the many craft elements Poe uses to create his dark and scary mood. Is on the Night s
Plutonian shore! ( Raven ). This is an allusion to the Roman god of the underworld. The
adjective Plutonian is meant to make us think of all the scary things that one associates with the
underworld: darkness, death, the afterlife etc. This example shows his use of allusion impacting
the text s mood. Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door ( Raven ). In line 41
Poe references Pallas Athena by saying that the raven perches on a bust of Pallas that he has
hanging above his door. Pallas Athena is the ancient Greek goddess of wisdom. This is another
allusion that helps build the mood of a dark and wise setting. All of the allusions provide a string
and dark mood by helping build it. Allusions can also cause imagery when referencing to other real

that when he came back in his dorm he was very scared. Deep into that darkness peering, long I
stood there wondering, fearing, ( Raven ) is another good example of how he uses imagery to set
the mood of darkness in The Raven . The point is that imagery helps you see a dark and scary
setting and action in your mind, which helps how you understand what the text means and what it
looks like. Diction helps how you can imagine things in your head more

Co ordination Co ordination is the bringing together of a work force and the activities they are to
perform, in such a manner that they are achieved with maximum efficiency and harmony. It is a
product of the organising function however; it must be achieved throughout the organisations
structure. Here are some of what I would consider to be the most important co ordination activities
in construction: * Ensuring the timeliness of work carried out * Maintaining records of all
drawings information, verbal instructions, directives and documents received from both clients and
consultants * Managing the quality of work * Liaising with clients and consultants * Identifying
delays and strategic activities
Communication The goal of communication is to convey information and the understanding of that
information, from one person or group to another person or group. The efficiency and effectiveness
of the construction process depend heavily on the quality of communication. Throughout the
construction process the people involved can communicate via email, word of mouth, drawings,

How Economic Globalization Has Fostered Globalization of...
I. INTRODUCTION
The concept of globalization is one of the most talked about terms over the past decades. In fact, it
is a highly popular buzzword that admittedly lacks a standard or commonly agreed upon definition.
(Trebilcock, 2000). The concept of economic globalization stemmed from the root concept of
globalization and by definition, pertains to that specific attribute of globalization that refers to the
process of integration between the economic front and the developed , under developed and
developing economies (Naik, 2011). Economic globalization essentially comes together through
international trade, FDIs (foreign direct investments) and the like (Naik, 2011).
As stated by Naik (2011), economic globalization is a process ... Show more content on

This is precisely the reason why the critics could not help but compare the unequal effects of
economic globalization among the developing and developed countries.
In this research paper, we will explore the process as to how the so called economic
globalization phenomenon has fostered a globalization of critics and criticism. In this research
paper, we will tackle the definition of economic globalization and its implications and how it has
allegedly brought about and triggered the rise of a number of critics. This research paper will
also identify the specific criticisms that critics have previously cited and identified with regard to
the economic globalization phenomenon. The main objective of this research paper is to provide
evidence as to how the emergence of globalization of critics and criticism was a direct by product
of economic globalization. Hence, in line with this main objective, this research paper will directly
answer the research question: How did economic globalization foster globalization of critics and
criticism?

The Accounting Field Of Public Accounting
To go into the accounting field, you must first go to college and obtain either an associate s or a
bachelor s degree in accounting. Though, most people get their bachelor s degree. While some
people finish their course of studying after just four years, others continue studying up to 150
credits to qualify for certification to become a CPA or otherwise known as Certified Public
Accountant. But to become a licensed CPA, one must pass a very rigorous exam which consists of
four different sections. The four parts are: Audit and Attestation; Financial Accounting and
Reporting; Regulation; and Business Environment and Concepts. Each part is taken once at a time
as they are very long, but once you pass a section, you must pass the other three within a period of
18 months. With a license of a CPA, one can easily get into the field of public accounting. But what
exactly does public accounting mean? According to accountingtools.com, public accounting
involves being an independent third party that examines the financial statements and supporting
systems of client companies to see if their financial statements fairly represent the results, financial
position, and cash flows of the clients. Certified public accountants provide their service to many
people which varies from an individual taxpayer to large corporations. Generally, public accountants

I Advocate For The Alteration Of Copyright Law
Copyright law is broken. I advocate for the alteration of copyright law as it relates to sampled
music. My argument is this: Anybody should be allowed to use any samples they want, but must
give credit and a portion of the profits made from the work to the sampled musicians. In The
Future of Ideas, Lawrence Lessig puts forth a similar proposal to the one I advocate for, in
regards to downloading music files instead of sampling. Lessig states, Congress should empower
file sharing by recognizing a similar system of compulsory licenses. These fees should not be set
by an industry intent on killing this new mode of distribution. They should be set, as they have
always been set by a policy maker keen on striking a balance. (Lessig 255). For Lessig the altering
of copyrightis a matter of principle, one which he corners as uniquely American and even
constitutional. [I]t is about the fundamental values that define this society and whether we will
allow those values to change. Are we, in a digital age, to be a free society? (Lessig 11). Another
section reveals an even deeper, almost heartfelt pleading, in which he defines the true reasons for
the war between those for and against changes to copyright law.
It is about the values of balance and measure that should limit the government s role in choosing the
future of creativity. It is about the opportunity for creators to build on the past. It is about limiting

Comparing Le Bonheur And St. Jude Children s Hospital
In order to be a volunteer, one must first realize that volunteering is a serious matter. The work put
in is supposed to be for the benefit of others, not the volunteer. Therefore, it is important that, when
choosing an organization for which to volunteer, each and every option is considered. Many
nonprofit organizations such as the Red Cross, the Susan G. Komen foundation, and St. Jude
Children s Hospital are all highly regarded options to consider. Le
Bonheur Children s Hospital, however, was the organization I was attracted to for more reasons
than one. By choosing to volunteer at Le Bonheur, a nonprofit children s hospital, I have

many reasons why Le

PS4 Situational Analysis

The company is competing with Microsoft in the computer and gaming consoles product area,
then with Panasonic in the television and music department and with LG s communications

company is susceptible to a fluctuating currency rate. For example the Japanese Yen has been
steadily rising against both the US dollar and the Euro since November 2013 and experienced a
5% increase against the US dollar in December 2013. (OANDA, 2014). This made Sony s
imports to these countries from Japan seem relatively more expensive than products made locally.

big threat for the Sony Corporation. Opportunities: The Sony brand has been given many
opportunities. One of these is that Blu ray is become increasingly more popular, which gives Sony
the opportunity to make these players as cheaply and efficiently as they can. A second opportunity

Art Observation
The first art work I observed was called Black Is the Color by Paul Stephen Benjamin. The
artwork is located in the Stent Family Wing of the High Museum, it was produced in 2014 and
is from the modern time period. The structure is made of old televisions of all shapes and sizes
are unevenly stacked on top of each other much unorganized. The televisions come about five feet
off the ground, and there are wild cords wrapped around the floor and also some of the televisions.
The space where the televisions are located is very dark, the only light in the area comes from the
televisions themselves. On the screen of the television is an African American women singinginto a
microphone, playing the pianoas well. In some televisions the picture is cropped and you can only
see her face and the piano can t be seen to the viewer. In other televisions the color of the actual
picture is different from others.
Besides the glaring lights there are also actual voices coming from the television. Not only do you
see someone singing on the television screen, there are physical voices. The women is singing a
melody which sounds off key, but it actually is not. Each television is playing the same voice just at
different times and pitches. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights
On December 1, 1955, Ms. Rosa Parks, a 42 year old African American woman who worked as a
seamstress, boarded a Montgomery, Alabama city bus to go home from work. She sat near the
middle of the bus, right behind the seats reserved for whites. Soon all of the seats in the bus were
filled. When a white man entered the bus, the driver followed the standard practice of segregation
and insisted that all four Blacks sitting just behind the white section give up their seats so that the
man could sit there. Ms. Parks quietly refused to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus.
This story is a familiar one, retold over and over as a symbol of the civil rights. There are dozens
of books about Rosa Parks that have been published, many of them for children. Literature written
for and about African Americanchildren can now be found on many bookstore shelves and in public
and school libraries throughout the United States, and the characters in these books are often
historical figures like Rosa Parks. Others reach back to the arrival of the African in America and to
the continuous struggle and development of African Americans that is evident even today. Some
books reach even further back, taking child readers to the continent of Africa before there was an
America. The stories of these characters also display the different regions, class levels, and family
structures of African Americans.
Literature written for children and young adults can be used as one of the strategies

Clockwork Orange Analysis
A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 crime film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on
Anthony Burgess s 1962 novel of the same name. It is a violent and disturbing film but somehow
fascinating and enjoyable at the same time. The film presents scenes of rape, physical violence and
murder because Kubrick wants to show the audience that these crimes are sickening but it s
combined with wonderful music and dance, which makes the film surreal and even funny.
Essentially it s a story focused on a British teenage, Alex DeLarge who is the leader of a 3 member
gang called droogs . Alex and his droogs spend their nights getting high on milk and then go out to
commit crimes. They carry out all sorts of crimes from rape to murder and robbery. The droogs
want to have a say in the crimes they commit but Alex asserts his authority by attacking them.
One night, things go wrong and the droogs betray Alex because they are sick of him bossing them
around. Alex gets caught by the police and is sentenced to 14 years in prison.
After two years in prison, Alex asks to be a part of an experiment; a therapy rehabilitating criminals
within two weeks but little does he know about the treatment. The treatment is essentially torture.
He is strapped to a chair, injected with drugs and forced to watch violent films with his eyes
propped open, which makes him feel sick and diseased. The government truly believed that this
treatment technique would cut down crimes.
At the end of two weeks, the treatment is over and the Minister wants to prove people that Alex
is now cured. He gathers people to put Alex through a test and Alex is unable to fight against the
attacks and feels sick when he sees a naked woman. For that reason, Alex is out as a free man and
things get worse outside.
The film is a protest against mind manipulations and political problems as well as social problems.
University of the Arts London Archive opened in 2007 and contains materials collected and owned
by the film director Stanley Kubrick. His family transferred it from his home in 2007 through a gift.
It contains much of Kubrick s working material that was accumulated during his lifetime.

Once More Of The Lake
Once More to the Lake is a short essay written by E.B. White for his column in the New Yorker,
One Man s Meat. Once More to the Lake is a story about a father who is taking his son to his
childhood vacation spot. On the trip, the father finds himself inside the memories of his past.
Throughout the trip, the father finds differences in the lake from when he was a child. While
much of E.B. White s essay is set in the present, the author explores his own mortality as he looks
both to the past and to the future. Elwyn Brooks White was born on July 11, 1899, in Mount
Vernon, New York, and died in 1985. Throughout his lifetime, White had traveled to many places
and held several jobs ranging from reporter to army private. He became a multifaceted writer but
primarily wrote style manual, fiction, poetry, and children s literature. Throughout his life, White
was surrounded by many other talented writers including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and
Stephen Leacock. White wrote the well known children s stories Stuart Littleand Charlotte s Web.
Many of White s works were accomplished with the help of his wife, former editor, Katharine
Angell. Once More to the Lake was published in 1941 along with many other works on which he
and Katharine had collaborated. The year 1941 was the onset of World War II in America. Other
countries had been at war for some time. In 1941, however, the war became increasingly eminent
for Americans. E.B. White did not slow down his writing during

In Telephone Conversation we have a telephone conversation between a black man who wants to
rent a room, from a white woman. We see that society is ignorant and racist. Prayer Before Birth
is a poem addressed to God from the point of view of an unborn baby who is scared to go into
society. They both have negative views of society.
In Prayer Before Birth society is presented as scary. The narrator is pleading and says I fear . She
(no gender is specified as it is meant to symbolize all of humanity) is scared of blood baths . This
uses alliteration and it is a metaphor. This could stand for all the violence that exists in the world
wars, murder, pain etc. She is scared of all the blood shed that exists in the world. In some ways ...

However, the white lady can only see in terms of DARK or VERY LIGHT . She seems to be in a
very black and white world. In Prayer Before Birth we also have the idea that difference is not
celebrated, as everyone has to become an automaton and a cog in a machine . However, Telephone
Conversation is more positive as there is a man dealing with racism, and despite feeling anger ,
(symbolised by the red booth and the Red pillar box the red symbolizing anger), he does not act
with violence, he acts with humour Friction, caused ... My bottom [to turn] raven black . This
reaction would go against some of the fears of the unborn baby as the African man has kept his
humanity, despite his bad experiences in society.
Society is ... made to seem ridiculous
Soyinka s main aim with this poem was to try to change people s racist views. She does this by
showing a racist incident, but showing it as ridiculous, thus highlighting just how stupid and
nonsensical the racist views of 1950s British society actually were. The white lady is made to
seem uneducated, as I have already said. Through the comparison of his education and her
ignorance, she is mocked. She actually symbolises society at the time, and so by mocking her, the
whole of society is mocked. Whereas he is, on the whole, very polite he calls her Madam , and he
deals politely with her rude questions (except perhaps at the end).

including respondent s income, alcohol consumption, and marital status. The main focus for this
research will be to try and grasp a further understanding of the effects each of these have on an

Data: The information provided for this research project came from the General Social Survey,
(GSS). Using IBM s SPSS predictive analytics software I analyzed the data to determine the
significance of these factors. The alcohol variable I used accounted for the number of alcoholic
beverages in a given year (GSS variable DRINKYR ). The other variable tested for significance
was marital status (GSS variable MARITAL ). This method of sampling is considered random
probabilistic sampling, as we should be able to draw a conclusion with our results about the
general population using entirely quantitative data. In examining the data I will be searching for
causality to determine the significance of these factors and whether or not they correlate with over
overall quality of mental health. Focal Relationship: I believe that income will have the highest
significance between the three of these factors, that s why I ve chosen income and mental health
as the focal relationship. Two variables are needed to determine whether or not causality exists
between mental health and income. The dependent variable will be identified as an individual s
amount of poor mental health days in the last 30 days (GSS variable mntlhlth ). This data will be
considered interval/ratio due to the close ended survey question. Answers to the survey were
provided in ranked numerical intervals representing the frequency of respondent s poor mental

system that coordinates orders, raw materials, and inventory across all 14 factories. What type of
WAN architecture and WAN service would you recommend? Why?
Recommendations:
When designing a WAN, numerous factors must be considered. Organizations attempting to

variables that will impact overall costs and network functionality. When designing and

So therefore, based off the information provided, I would recommend a packet switched
architecture, or more specifically a Frame relay with a CIR 45 Mbps WAN service. Frame Relay is
packet switched data link layer protocol that handles multiple virtual circuits using High Level Data
Link Control (HDLC) encapsulation between connected devices. (Cisco, 2005) In many cases,
Frame Relay is more efficient than X.25 and generally less expensive than ATM. Also the data
provided does not suggest that MegaCorp specifically has needs for the extensive QoS
information that ATM provides that would enable the setting of very precise priorities among
different types of transmissions such as high priority for voice and video and lower priority for
email. If the company were a consulting firm with a high propensity for needs on bandwidth
because of video conferencing or high bandwidth requiring applications then perhaps ATM
architecture with a T1 or T3 WAN service might be more suitable. Even though MegaCorp is a
large manufacturing firm recommending Ethernet services might prove to be too expensive of a
proposal as well and thus causing us to lose the project. The cost associated to having each factory
connected by fiber optic cables to the provider s city wide MAN backbone plus the cost of the
Ethernet switch might not be justified by the company s bandwidth needs.

An Analysis Of John Vote By John Capote

that the repercussions of the murders actions are felt by all, and will permanently break and kill
their spirits and morale even if the town itself appears untouched. The tomb of the unknown soldier
sits in silence day in and day out, as if it never changes. It is always dressed in wreaths and sorrow.

Between these two quotes, it is obvious that the group of friends and neighbors are gathering
together at the same place, around the same time of year, yet are together for very different
reasons. The parallel of the two days in atmosphere allows Capote to draw emphasis on the different
reason for being together. It truly goes to show that Capote is attempting to show the town has
drastically changed and silently died in spirit. A town that once anticipated the prizes from their gun
shots now dreaded the clean up of another s.
As the friends approach the house, Capote implements connotations to again show the now dead
spirit of Holcomb. First he describes Going out there we always had such welcome ( Capote 78).
Welcome in a home can commonly be connotated with other words such as warmth, acceptance,
friendly and joyous atmosphere. However Capote continues with, On the present occasion, a
highway patrolman welcomed them (Capote 78). More often than not, a patrolman is an
unfortunate encounter. Once again, with connotations of welcome and patrolman Capote illustrates
that Holcomb is just not the same environment as it once was.
Citizens suffered individually too. Dewey has lived in numerous large cities and

Tornado Research
Introduction
Predicting tornado activity can be one of the most challenging aspects of Meteorology. Tornados
can form in less than 10 seconds, providing little to no warning of the potential devastating
destruction they leave behind. With advancements in technology being more aware of the
formation of tornados would appear to be a natural outcome. Research indicates, that the
advancement in predicting tornados is closely related to understanding better why early predictions
are challenging.
Reasons for Predicting Tornados

The Purpose Of Copyright Laws
The purpose of copyright laws in modern society, as confirmed by Darrell Panethiere (2005) is to
protect the creative rights of authors, performers, publishers, broadcasters, and many others whose
livelihoods depend upon the recognition of rights (p. 1, par. 1) for their intellectual properties. In
the contemporary business world, most companies that sell products of some kind depend on other
firms for the design, production, and distribution of the product to make it available for selling.
Such sales are often either wholesale to retailers or retail to consumers. Violations of the copyrights
of intellectual property(IP), destroys the chain of commerce reflected in these different industries;
which also includes the loss of employment to workers in each industry. In short, copyrightlaws
protect the motivation of creativity, the investment of commerce, plus the employment of a labor
force.
WHY COPYRIGHT LAWS?
As recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO, n.d.), in the Protection of
Industrial Property (p. 4, par. 2) during the Paris Convention of 1883 as well as in the Protection of
Literary and Artistic Works (p. 4, par. 2) during the Berne Convention of 1886, both acknowledges
the valuation developed and emerging societies attribute to intellectual properties. Therefore, the
protection of these values is justified with laws.
Intellectual property is identified as mental conceptions in fixed form which are perceptible by

A DECISION TREE BASED RULE FORMATION WITH COMBINED PSO GA ALGORITHM
FOR INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM
3.1INTRODUCTION The increase in the usage of the computer networks leads to the huge rise in
the threat and attacks. These attackers change, steal and destroy the valuable information and
finally cause complete damage to the computer system of the victim. They affect the performance
of the computer system through the misconfiguration activities and generation of software bugs
from internal and external networks. Irrespective of the existence of various security mechanism,
attackers often attempt to harm the computer system of the intended legitimate users. Hence,
security is a main factor for the efficient operation of the network in various applications such as
healthcare monitoring, military surveillance, etc. The most common security mechanisms are
firewalls, antivirus programs and Intrusion Detection System (IDS).
Firewalls (Fehr, 2013) are the commonly used mechanism for securing the corporate network or sub
network. The firewall is operated based on a set of rules that can protect the system from the
flooding attacks. The main function is sorting of the packets according to the allow/deny rules,
based on the header filed information. But the firewalls cannot ensure complete protection of an
internal network, since they are unable to stop the internal attacks. The computer viruses can cause
damage to the computer data that leads to the complete failure of the

3.1. Benchmarks
There are several benchmarking concepts in the IT sector for decades. For computing power
performance benchmarking, the Whetstone Benchmarking algorithm have been used. It is adopted
by sector leaders for several decades. Whetstone algorithm was originally based on floating
operations, like many of the other benchmarking algorithms, such as Linpack, LM suite, HPCC.
However, in time, new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second type, each query s scope was one hundred (100) records, and the connection,
statement and result set are again released and created for each of these queries. The single record
queries represent database operations like transactions targeting single records in tables. The
queries targeting one hundred (100) records represent bulk operations like the jobs running at the
end of day operations.
For main memory performance benchmarking, Stream benchmark algorithm is used. This
algorithm measures the sustainable real world bandwidth as real users faced, not the theoretical
peak values. It is a widely known and applied algorithm in memory bandwidth performance tests
[27]. The Stream algorithm is also a synthetic benchmark which creates synthetic workloads, not
the real world workloads. The benchmark measures the bandwidth performance by four long
vector / matrix operations, like copy , scale , add , and triad (combination of other three). The
algorithm assigns one of the arrays to another in order to measure the copy operation time and
bandwidth. For scale operation, it multiplies the elements of an array by a scalar value. In add
operation, it adds the elements of an array to the elements of another array and assigns the results
to a third array. Triad does the calculations of the three operations all together (copy, scale, and
add). In our evaluations, we have used the average of the results for these four

The Edict Of Milan As A Form Of Betrayal
The Edict of Milan was an order given by Emperor Constantine of the Roman Empire in the year
313. This order marked the acceptance for the Christian faith within the Roman Empire after
decades of persecution. Its issuance led to Christianity becoming the dominant faith in the Roman
Empire, as well as the most widely practiced religion in the world today. Unfortunately the end of
the persecution of Christians was cause for the persecution of pagans, resulting in cultural, political,
and scientific changes. The authors of Civilizations Past Present state that before the Edict of
Milan, Rome was tolerant of other religions so long as they did not threaten the empire. Christianity
, however, was regarded as dangerous to the social order and the empire itself. This is because the
empire worshipped gods which were not included in the Christian faith (a monotheistic system of
belief). Roman officials considered Christians refusal to sacrifice to Roman gods as a form of
betrayal. Additionally, Christians secluded themselves from the citizens of other faiths and denied
their religions, claiming they were illegitimate. They were pacifistic individuals, refused to join the
army and refused to attend events their faith decreed sinful. In the years from 23 February of AD

because the Apple product lines typically boast more expensive and better quality parts.
Comparing Macs with higher end PCs is a little more difficult. Generally, though, Macs have faster
processors than their Windows counterparts but tend to skimp slightly when it comes to RAM, hard
disk space and USB ports.
The kinds of connections and optical drives found on Macs and PCs also differ in certain ways.
Macs offer a pretty standard selection of such features, including a SuperDrive (reads and writes
CDs and DVDs), audio in and audio out, USB, FireWire (data transfer), Thunderbolt (video
output), Ethernet, and a magnetized power port. PCs offer comparable features, plus a few more,
like Blu ray players, TV tuners, touch screens and HDMI ports.
Graphics: One of the most Attracted feature in any computer is the Graphics Hardwares and both
Mac and PC has filled up their customers desires. The Mac uses Intel Irish graphic. It gives high
quality multimedia experience. Some of pc company also introducing Irish graphics in their

Sumerian Vs. Ancient Egyptian Myths
Sumerian Vs. Ancient Egyptian Myths
Both Mythological Cosmologies were similar in the ways they were ruled. Also in the way the
human race was created. They both started out with Gods that ruled the land. In the Egyptian Myth,
the god Re created mankind. In the Sumerian Myth, the God Enki created mankind.
A difference between both myths however was the fact that the Sumerians had a different god for
each city as well as a god for each part of the Earth, and the Egyptians had one God, who made
smaller gods and goddesses. The gods and goddesses of Egypt were as follows: Khepera at dawn,
Re at noon and Atum in the evening, the gods of the sun. Shu, the god of wind. Tefnut, the god of
rain. Geb, the Earth God. The goddess Nut, who was the sky

Fritz Lang Final Scene Analysis
The Serial Killer and the Criminals In the final scene of the 1931 crime drama, M (dir. Fritz
Lang), the child serial killer Hans Beckert (Peter Lorre) is finally captured and put on trial by the
criminal network of the city. Finally surrounded and forced to deal with his crimes, this scene
slowly shows Bekert s unraveling as he loses all sense of control, submitting to the crowd of
criminals surrounding him. By using elements of mise en scГЁne such as setting, blocking, and
acting style, the scene shows both Berket s continual rise and fall of hope compared to the
determination and absolute control of the criminals. The scene is based in the underground of an
abandoned factory, Bekert pushed down the stairs into a decaying and dark... Show more content on

Bekert begins to lose himself again, panic filling his face, but is brought back by judges and is
forced to turn around again, this time revealing a picture of each of his victim. The reverse shots
of Bekert and the picture show ranging expressions of panic, first jumping back, second taking a
fist to his mouth in shock, and third running for the door. The movement of Bekert causes a
reaction from the crowd and guards, who force him back down the stairs in a chaotic struggle.
By allowing the rise and fall of Bekert s emotions from calm, to shock, to complete panic, a
pattern is established for the remainder of the scene and supports the control the criminals have
over Bekert s fate. Degradingly, Bekert is thrown to the ground onto a pile of wood, shown in a
high angle shot as the crowd yells at him. The crowd is silenced by the judges, the lead judge
voice overlaying a tracking medium shot of all the other panel members as he explains their
relation to the wall. This shot reveals the history and stoic personalities of the people Bekert is
now up against, revealing how he will not be able to persuade them of his innocence and how they
will not accept any fate for him besides death. Bekert attempts to yell back at them, but is silenced
again by an offscreen hand

Barrett s Esophagus Case
I.Description
Barrett s Esophagus can be complication of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The acid causes the
normal simple stratified squamous epithelium to be destroyed and the body replaces the tissue with
columnar epithelium, the same tissue present in the stomach. The disease can occur causing
symptoms or can be asymptomatic. Not every patient with gastroesophageal reflux disease will
develop Barrett s Esophagus and not every patient who has Barrett s Esophagus had
gastroesophageal reflux disease. Screening is important to help identify patients that may be
affected by the disease. Caucasian male populations are at the greatest risk for developing Barrett s
Esophagus which can lead to esophageal adenocarcinoma. Biopsy is required to diagnose ... Show

This repeated exposure to this acid over time can damage the esophagus and cause chronic
inflammation damaging healthy cells. In most patients the damaged cells are repaired and new
healthy squamous cells regenerate the area. In cases when a patient is diagnosed with Barrett s
Esophagus the body replaces the damaged areas with metaplastic columnar epithelium.7 The exact
reason the body replaces the squamous cells with columnar cells in the damaged portion of the
esophagus is unknown but research is pushing for to find the exact source of why the body
responds in this manner. It is believed this replacement happens because progenitor cells, which
would normally would differentiate into squamous cells, differentiate into columnar cells. Other
researchers believe gastroesophageal reflux might cause changes in the expression of transcription
factors necessary for development which causes transdifferentiation or causing immature progenitor
to differentiate into columnar rather than squamous cells.6 However, animal models indicate that
the cause is a result of migration of stem cells from the cardiac portion of the stomach or developing
cells from the gastroesophageal junction. Other animal models point to bone marrow progenitor
cells contributing to the cell replacement.10 While this change in cells may be

Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour
Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings
suggest that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making.
Rationality can only go so far in explaining individual decision making.
A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative
approach, which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although
Bernoulli (1738) was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von
Neumann and Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which
revolutionised the idea of a rational decision process. Von Neumann and Morgenstern (1947)
explicitly outlined the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk
averse and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others
would choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making
are not without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified
representation of reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed,
empirical evidence suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes
(1988) wrote, People, groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the
consequences of their decisions are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that
decision making is not purely rational (where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU
Theory).
In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman
and Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different
perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we
make decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that
information is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the
amount of utility gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in
both situations

Essay on Margaret Hilda Thatcher
Margaret Hilda Thatcher
Margaret Hilda Thatcher s overwhelming sense of self confidence and ambition ruled her life
from the time she was a small child in Grantham, though her Oxford years and during her early
years in politics. It led her to become the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain, and also
helped through her difficult political years as quot;Attila the Hun quot;.
Britain s first female Prime Minister was born on October 13, 1925 in a small room over a grocer s
shop in Grandham, England. Margaret Hilda was the second daughter of Alfred and Beatrice
Roberts. She often stated that she was brought up very strictly:
I owe everything in my life to two things: a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She enjoyed the tough verbal conflict of parliamentary debates. She had a quick mind and an even
quicker tongue, along with an enormous self confidence. She liked to fight and liked to win.
In 1975, the Conservatives were the first party in Britain to chose a woman as leader and potential
Prime Minister:
It was the backbenchers, not the Leader, or his Shadow Cabinet, who forced a ballot, and it was a
backbenchers candidate who emerged triumphant from it.
When the election was announced on January 23, and in the first ballot Margaret had the support
of only one member of a Shadow Cabinet of 23 she was regarded with suspicion by most of those
managing the party machine at Central Office, and opposed by many in the National Union. In
short, she was an anti establishment candidate. Her campaign manager was a backbencher,
backbenchers of varying shades of opinion made up her campaign committee who voted decisively
for change(Gardiner, 1975, p.204).
In May 1979, Thatcher became the first female Prime Minister of Great
Britain. Her party won again in 1983 and 1987. Thatcher resigned as Prime
Minister and leader of the Conservative Party in November 1990, after loosing the support of the
party. She remained in the House of Commons until 1992. In the same year, Thatcher was made a
Baroness by the queen and became a member of the House of Lords.

Essay On How To Build A Computer
Are you tired of paying hundreds or thousands of dollars to a company for a computer that gives
a below average experience? Well, why not build your own computer? This might sound like a
crazy idea, but once you understand the principles, it s a piece of cake and you will probably end
up saving 100 or 200 dollars from buying the same thing from a well known company. You might
be asking yourself, How on earth am I supposed to build a computer? Where will I obtain the parts?
. Well, don t worry, because this guide is everything you need from sourcing the parts to booting
up your own functional computer. The basics are always the computer essentials: a motherboard,
a CPU, a graphics card [optional], RAM, a hard drive, a power supply and a... Show more content

Next are the RAM modules. the ram count might be more than one but that s fine. if it s more
than 1 you will have to configure it in the bios after the build is complete. okay, now just fit the
ram in its own slot. it should be right beside the processor socket. Now your motherboard is all
good to go in the case! lift up the motherboard and hover it over the case. there should be some
screw holes that match up to the ones on the motherboard. Carefully lower it down and secure it
with screws. Part 2 is complete! you are halfway there! next is to install the hard drive. on the
back of the case, there should be a separate slot for the hard drive. it should have brackets that
adjust to your hard drives size. adjust it and pull out a SATA connection from the hard drive
box. this should plug right into the base of the motherboard. next, we will have to route all the
connections from the power supply and the connections from the case for the lights, power
button, the USB ports and the case fans. the cabling in the case should come bundled. all you
need to do is find the numbers on the cables and match them up to the motherboard. *The next
part is if you have a graphics card. a graphics card isn t necessary unless you plan to do some
heavy gaming. but if u do have one, you should line up the golden part under the graphics card to
the one on the motherboard. keep pushing it in until you hear a click and it held on firmly. screw
in the graphics card to keep it secure.

Reflective Piece: Project: Babylon, magnum
Challenges
One of the biggest problems I had when trying to write this, was to try and keep it completely
original, instead of trying to make it just another zombie apocalypse style story. By the end, it
seemed pretty much the exact same as much of the other kinds of stories. Another big problem
had been from when I would try to write down ideas before I forgot them and had wound up
causing quite a few spelling problems, which I wasn t able to fix. That was a smaller problem; I
always have a habit of trying to go back and fixing any kinds of spelling mistakes the moment that
I see them which made this a little tricky. I think the final problem would most likely have to be
the fact that there were times that I almost typed something in third person, like I was for a side
project (Unintentional pun.) and I wasn t able to fix this until I was finished writing the chapter,
then I would go back and fix it on the Beta copy.

Comparison Of Tattoo-Motives And Imagery
Tattoo Motives and Imagery
Tattooing is definitely nothing new today: the mummified tattooed skins, ancient tattoo tools,
primitive artworks that depict tattooed figures and other archaeological discoveries all suggest that
tattooing has existed since around Neolithic times. It was practiced for religious and cultural
reasons with varying styles and imageries across cultures. This paper will examine a few tattoo
designs originated from Japan and Borneo and some traditional motifs that help us recognize their
cultural roots.
The process of tattooing is brutal and painful; more so in the past as it involved the chiseling of
skin in some cultures. Nevertheless, tattoos have received great popularity in contemporary times,
especially in America. I will therefore first explore the various reasons for which people tattoo
themselves referencing Michael Atkinson s book Tattooed: The Sociogenesis of a Body Art.
Meanwhile, it seems that very few scholars have examined changes in the tattoo imagery. Since
around the 1990s, the increased accessibility to traditional ethnic designs from different cultures has
enabled people to appropriate, mix and create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Figure 3, the design has an illustration of four bones from human vertebrae that is shaded. The
thin lines that compose the bones contrast the thick dark black line pattern in the background.
The pattern seems to have been inspired from Borneo tattoo designs as the bold lines intersect or
overlap each other and always end with pointy edges. The tattoo design in Figure 4, similarly,
incorporates the solid lines from Borneo tattoo. Curiously, two of the lines resemble receptacles
and are in conjunction with two red flowers on the ends, making the other lines look like plant
leaves. In this way, the modern and traditional imageries are combined harmoniously and a third
color is added to a design that is conventionally black and

  • 2. African American Stereotypes Reality Television Reality programs have dominated television networks since their rise in popularity began in the early 1990s with MTV s The Real World. The reality genre quickly gained viewership as it redefined the formulaic set up of televisions shows from the past. Reality television has infiltrated television because networks prefer low budgets for their programs that also generate high ratings (Hasinoff, 2008). People watch reality shows because they are intrigued by the seemingly real drama with ordinary people as characters (Dubrofsky, 2006). Now at its peak of growth, reality televisionevokes ideas of social order and cultural norms to its audiences, while perpetuating racial stereotypes in society (Mendible, 2004). The research found that frequent viewers of reality TV highly value revenge, competition, and achieving status and prestige (Mendible, 2004, p. 336). Mendible further discussed reality television s strategic use of humiliation as a form of entertainment to draw in viewers (Mendible, 2004). With constant exposure to media images, audiences may be influenced by the television show s values and subliminal messages. People use reality television as an informational tool to people watch and observe what is socially acceptable or not (Tyree, 2011, p. 397). The problem with using television to observe and decipher social norms with is that reality shows are not actually based on real events. Reality television contains fictional aspects that allow producers to manipulate situations that appear to be real on screen. In order to keep their characters interesting and easily recognizable throughout the season, a show must clearly establish heroes, villains and supporting characters to keep their audience coming back for more (Tyree, 2011, p. 395). This involves the heavy use of racial stereotypes in their shows because it allows for quick character development as well as cheap entertainment. The way a particular race or culture is represented on reality television can adversely affect the way society views that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A baby s cry goes ignored and the tea kettle on the stove continues to whistle. Most, but not all cases of childhood deafness and hearing impairment are diagnosed between the ages of 18 months and 3 years old (Mapp 50). Sometimes called the invisible handicap, hearing loss explains why sign language is the third most used language in the United States (Jones 54). Studies have also shown that the time following a child s diagnosis can be particularly trying on husbands as they are trying to reassure their wives that everything will be fine while privately attempting to deal with their own deep and emotional grief (Luterman et al. 7). The separate roles each parent takes on complement each other by providing unique skills for their child. One of the most emotional taxing yet gratifying parts of raising a deaf child is that the mother is typically the one member of the family most capable of communicating with the deaf child. She becomes not only a mother, but an educator, social guidance counselor, communication specialist, interpreter, and audiologist consultant (Mapp 15). The girl s mother went to the school district when the girl entered high school hoping sign language classes were available as a precaution in case her half deaf child continued to lose her hearing. They refused to even consider letting sign language qualify for her foreign language requirement. Another recurring theme in the challenges faced by parents is the abundance of ignorance in the faculty of school systems themselves. One frustrated parent wrote said about mainstreaming her deaf child into a hearing school, ...the teacher sometimes forgets...her limits and limitations...and does something ... • 5. Informative Speech On Greek Culture [4]Since most people believe that the dead would return to the earth on this night, they would light bonfires and [5]they would wear costumes that were terrifying to the eye and would create a sense of fear and disturbance. The reasons for these scary costumes were because people were afraid souls of the dead would recognize the living and they were used as a disguise to ward off any spirits roaming. Unlike the past, our present day version is somewhat different from the festival of Samhain (sow in). Today, we celebrate by carving pumpkins into Jack o lanterns, buying costumes, having parties, trick or treating and even pranking. Some people even decorated their front lawns with huge, inflatable pumpkins or spiders. It seems like the both are kind of celebrated the same, and there are similarities but there are also Halloween, the time of year when you can dress up as someone else or something else and gather as much candy as possible only if you are a kid. However, Hitler was not directly responsible for all of the terror to ensue; there were many Nazi followers and soldiers who committed unspeakable crimes of war and other atrocious acts even as far as crimes against humanity. One such man was Dr. Josef Mengele. Mengele was born March 16th, 1911 in GГјnzburg, Germany. He received his Ph. D. in physical anthropology in 1935, when he was 24 from the University of Munich. A few years later, in 1937 he was the assistant to Dr. Otmar von Vercheur who was famous for his research on twins. In 1945, Mengele fled Germany. • 7. Richard Van Camp s The Night Charles Bukowski Died When defining the term manhood , many people may use terms such as courage, strength, or bravery. Throughout history there have been many pressures on men to be as stereotypically manly as possible. If men don t conform to those stereotypes, they may be looked down upon by society as a whole. Richard Van Camp s short story The Night Charles BukowskiDied is a prime example of the dangers of nonconformity to stereotypically manly traits. The story is an intense first person stream of consciousness from the point of view of an unnamed narrator that follows the narrator and three of his peers: Mikey, Jason, and Scott. The use of metaphor, point of view, and setting in The Night Charles Bukowski Died exposes how stereotypical expectations of manhood can lead to dangerous situations not only physically, but also socially and emotionally. Van Camp makes use of metaphor to compare three distinct situations in the story relating to manhood to animals. When Jason and the narrator are encouraging Mikey to be strong, the narrator tells a brief story of an elder who was courageous enough to stand between a grizzly bear and his grandson with just an ax and an attitude of surrender being completely out of the question (33). In this situation, the narrator is doing his best to instill a fighting attitude in Mikey instead of just letting him accept that Scott is bullying him. Later in the story as the narrator, Jason, and Mikey are about to beat up Scott, the narrator recalls a lion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Cordelia As A Christ-Like Figure In Ian Hunter s King Lear Cordelia as a Christ like figure is understandable based on the answer she gives her father in response to his question of love. Does she love him as her sisters do? Goneril and Regan give unabashedly extravagant answers that contain nothing more than empty flattery and meaningless words of love. However, Cordelia is the only daughter who gives an honest answer to his question. In the playKing Lear, Cordelia responds, Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave/ My heart into my mouth. I loveyour majesty/ According to my bond; no more, no less (I.i.90 92). Cordelia accepts the king as her father and her sovereign, and she loves him accordingly, but he is not a God like figure to her. Honesty, in this instance, is more important to King Lear s youngest daughter, rather than ego stroking. When she answers that she cannot heave her heart into her mouth, she understands that she will not baste him in meaningless flattery just to gain his wealth. This is the moment in the play that Cordelia s virtue and love are revealed, setting into motion the idea that she is a Christ like figure. Ian Hunter, author of the Christian article Lear, Cordelia, the Cross presumes the play is more than just an allegory to parts of the Bible. He compares this play to John Milton s Paradise Lost. Hunter states that the conversation between Lear and Kent in which Kent is banished reveals another key element to the play. Essay on Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman is wrought with symbolism from the opening scene. Many symbols illustrate the themes of success and failure. They include the apartment buildings, the rubber hose, Willy s brother Ben, the tape recorder, and the seeds for the garden. These symbols represent Willy s attempts to be successful and his impending failure. When Willy and Linda purchased their home in Brooklyn, it seemed far removed form the city. The green fields... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His wife Linda, who finds the hose, knows what he was going to do with it, as does Biff. When confronted by Biff, Willy not only denies that he was going to use the hose, but also denies ever seeing it before. Instead of being remembered as a successful businessman who died, Willy is seen by his family as a failure who cannot even commit suicide or tell the truth. Willy s brother Ben seems to symbolize all of Willy s dreams that have not borne fruit. Ben provides an example of the type of success that Willy desires. Ben went into the jungle with nothing and became extremely wealthy. Ben achieved in a few years what Willy has dreamed about his entire life. Ben also provides additional evidence on the foolish behavior and poor decisions made by Willy. Ben offers to take Willy with him and make him rich an offer that Willy declines. Another important symbol is Howard s tape recorder. It represents the many material objects wealthy businessmen could provide for their families and for themselves. Willy wanted this lifestyle; he wanted something he could lay his hands on (Miller pg. ). It would not be enough to just be successful; Willy wanted to be able to show people material representations of his success. The tape recorder shows that Howard has reached this level of success. Yet while the recorder symbolizes the wealth and power of Howard, it also represents Willy s discouragement and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Did Edgar Allan Poe Use Allusion With a dash of allusion, a sprinkle of imagery, and a pint of dark diction, once they all mix, you get the dark and scary mood created in Edgar Allan Poe s writing. Edgar Allan Poe is a poetic writer and is well known for his dark and scary stories and story elements. Edgar Allan Poe uses figurative language, strong diction, and spooky words to build the mood in his works. Allusion is one of the many craft elements Poe uses to create his dark and scary mood. Is on the Night s Plutonian shore! ( Raven ). This is an allusion to the Roman god of the underworld. The adjective Plutonian is meant to make us think of all the scary things that one associates with the underworld: darkness, death, the afterlife etc. This example shows his use of allusion impacting the text s mood. Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door ( Raven ). In line 41 Poe references Pallas Athena by saying that the raven perches on a bust of Pallas that he has hanging above his door. In fact, it is a highly popular buzzword that admittedly lacks a standard or commonly agreed upon definition. (Trebilcock, 2000). The concept of economic globalization stemmed from the root concept of globalization and by definition, pertains to that specific attribute of globalization that refers to the process of integration between the economic front and the developed , under developed and developing economies (Naik, 2011). • 18. I Advocate For The Alteration Of Copyright Law Copyright law is broken. I advocate for the alteration of copyright law as it relates to sampled music. My argument is this: Anybody should be allowed to use any samples they want, but must give credit and a portion of the profits made from the work to the sampled musicians. In The Future of Ideas, Lawrence Lessig puts forth a similar proposal to the one I advocate for, in regards to downloading music files instead of sampling. Lessig states, Congress should empower file sharing by recognizing a similar system of compulsory licenses. These fees should not be set by an industry intent on killing this new mode of distribution. They should be set, as they have always been set by a policy maker keen on striking a balance. (Lessig 255). For Lessig the altering of copyrightis a matter of principle, one which he corners as uniquely American and even constitutional. [I]t is about the fundamental values that define this society and whether we will allow those values to change. Are we, in a digital age, to be a free society? (Lessig 11). Another section reveals an even deeper, almost heartfelt pleading, in which he defines the true reasons for the war between those for and against changes to copyright law. It is about the values of balance and measure that should limit the government s role in choosing the future of creativity. It is about the opportunity for creators to build on the past. It is about limiting the control that legal structures such as copyright give to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The work put in is supposed to be for the benefit of others, not the volunteer. Therefore, it is important that, when choosing an organization for which to volunteer, each and every option is considered. Many nonprofit organizations such as the Red Cross, the Susan G. Komen foundation, and St. Jude Children s Hospital are all highly regarded options to consider. Le Bonheur Children s Hospital, however, was the organization I was attracted to for more reasons than one. All of this is only one of many reasons why Le Bonheur is well worth any volunteer s time. Furthermore, Le Bonheur does not require volunteers to have any particular skills or training in order to be eligible for a position. My experience as a volunteer for Le Bonheur includes painting faces at Blue Springs, working a silent auction for the Family Affairs Fundraiser, and helping work Le Bonheur s annual Walmart Day. For some activities, I volunteered only a few hours of my time; however, others, such as Walmart Day, required nearly eight hours. Time should not be an issue as long as he or she have some to give. The company is competing with Microsoft in the computer and gaming consoles product area, then with Panasonic in the television and music department and with LG s communications products. A second threat Sony faces relates to most of its production being in Japan. The company is susceptible to a fluctuating currency rate. For example the Japanese Yen has been steadily rising against both the US dollar and the Euro since November 2013 and experienced a 5% increase against the US dollar in December 2013. (OANDA, 2014). This made Sony s imports to these countries from Japan seem relatively more expensive than products made locally. Another threat Sony faces is one relating to the specific product being discussed in this report. Recently the PS4 network was hacked, allowing users credit card details and other private information to be taken. (MacManus, 2012). Being vulnerable to attacks from hackers is a very big threat for the Sony Corporation. Opportunities: The Sony brand has been given many opportunities. One of these is that Blu ray is become increasingly more popular, which gives Sony the opportunity to make these players as cheaply and efficiently as they can. A second opportunity is their partnership with the big gaming franchise Fifa. This enhances Sony s corporate value. Weaknesses: One weakness of the Sony Corporation is its location. Analysis Of Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights On December 1, 1955, Ms. Rosa Parks, a 42 year old African American woman who worked as a seamstress, boarded a Montgomery, Alabama city bus to go home from work. She sat near the middle of the bus, right behind the seats reserved for whites. Soon all of the seats in the bus were filled. When a white man entered the bus, the driver followed the standard practice of segregation and insisted that all four Blacks sitting just behind the white section give up their seats so that the man could sit there. Ms. Parks quietly refused to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus. This story is a familiar one, retold over and over as a symbol of the civil rights. There are dozens of books about Rosa Parks that have been published, many of them for children. Literature written for and about African Americanchildren can now be found on many bookstore shelves and in public and school libraries throughout the United States, and the characters in these books are often historical figures like Rosa Parks. Others reach back to the arrival of the African in America and to the continuous struggle and development of African Americans that is evident even today. • 27. Clockwork Orange Analysis A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 crime film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Anthony Burgess s 1962 novel of the same name. It is a violent and disturbing film but somehow fascinating and enjoyable at the same time. The film presents scenes of rape, physical violence and murder because Kubrick wants to show the audience that these crimes are sickening but it s combined with wonderful music and dance, which makes the film surreal and even funny. Essentially it s a story focused on a British teenage, Alex DeLarge who is the leader of a 3 member gang called droogs . Alex and his droogs spend their nights getting high on milk and then go out to commit crimes. They carry out all sorts of crimes from rape to murder and robbery. The droogs want to have a say in the crimes they commit but Alex asserts his authority by attacking them. One night, things go wrong and the droogs betray Alex because they are sick of him bossing them around. Alex gets caught by the police and is sentenced to 14 years in prison. After two years in prison, Alex asks to be a part of an experiment; a therapy rehabilitating criminals within two weeks but little does he know about the treatment. The treatment is essentially torture. He is strapped to a chair, injected with drugs and forced to watch violent films with his eyes propped open, which makes him feel sick and diseased. The government truly believed that this treatment technique would cut down crimes. At the end of two weeks, the treatment is over and the Minister wants to prove people that Alex is now cured. He gathers people to put Alex through a test and Alex is unable to fight against the attacks and feels sick when he sees a naked woman. For that reason, Alex is out as a free man and things get worse outside. The film is a protest against mind manipulations and political problems as well as social problems. University of the Arts London Archive opened in 2007 and contains materials collected and owned by the film director Stanley Kubrick. His family transferred it from his home in 2007 through a gift. It contains much of Kubrick s working material that was accumulated during his lifetime. I chose to research about politics because I wanted to find out why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once More to the Lake is a story about a father who is taking his son to his childhood vacation spot. On the trip, the father finds himself inside the memories of his past. Throughout the trip, the father finds differences in the lake from when he was a child. While much of E.B. White s essay is set in the present, the author explores his own mortality as he looks both to the past and to the future. Throughout his lifetime, White had traveled to many places and held several jobs ranging from reporter to army private. Throughout his life, White was surrounded by many other talented writers including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and Stephen Leacock. White wrote the well known children s stories Stuart Littleand Charlotte s Web. Many of White s works were accomplished with the help of his wife, former editor, Katharine Angell. Two variables are needed to determine whether or not causality exists between mental health and income. Frame Relay is packet switched data link layer protocol that handles multiple virtual circuits using High Level Data Link Control (HDLC) encapsulation between connected devices. (Cisco, 2005) In many cases, Frame Relay is more efficient than X.25 and generally less expensive than ATM. The Purpose Of Copyright Laws The purpose of copyright laws in modern society, as confirmed by Darrell Panethiere (2005) is to protect the creative rights of authors, performers, publishers, broadcasters, and many others whose livelihoods depend upon the recognition of rights (p. 1, par. 1) for their intellectual properties. In the contemporary business world, most companies that sell products of some kind depend on other firms for the design, production, and distribution of the product to make it available for selling. Such sales are often either wholesale to retailers or retail to consumers. Violations of the copyrights of intellectual property(IP), destroys the chain of commerce reflected in these different industries; which also includes the loss of employment to workers in each industry. In short, copyrightlaws protect the motivation of creativity, the investment of commerce, plus the employment of a labor force. WHY COPYRIGHT LAWS? As recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO, n.d.), in the Protection of Industrial Property (p. 4, par. 2) during the Paris Convention of 1883 as well as in the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (p. 4, par. 2) during the Berne Convention of 1886, both acknowledges the valuation developed and emerging societies attribute to intellectual properties. CHAPTER 3 A DECISION TREE BASED RULE FORMATION WITH COMBINED PSO GA ALGORITHM FOR INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM 3.1INTRODUCTION The increase in the usage of the computer networks leads to the huge rise in the threat and attacks. These attackers change, steal and destroy the valuable information and finally cause complete damage to the computer system of the victim. They affect the performance of the computer system through the misconfiguration activities and generation of software bugs from internal and external networks. Irrespective of the existence of various security mechanism, attackers often attempt to harm the computer system of the intended legitimate users. Hence, security is a main factor for the efficient operation of the network in various applications such as healthcare monitoring, military surveillance, etc. The most common security mechanisms are firewalls, antivirus programs and Intrusion Detection System (IDS). Firewalls (Fehr, 2013) are the commonly used mechanism for securing the corporate network or sub network. The firewall is operated based on a set of rules that can protect the system from the flooding attacks. The main function is sorting of the packets according to the allow/deny rules, based on the header filed information. But the firewalls cannot ensure complete protection of an internal network, since they are unable to stop the internal attacks. The computer viruses can cause damage to the computer data that leads to the complete failure of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For main memory performance benchmarking, Stream benchmark algorithm is used. This algorithm measures the sustainable real world bandwidth as real users faced, not the theoretical peak values. It is a widely known and applied algorithm in memory bandwidth performance tests [27]. The Stream algorithm is also a synthetic benchmark which creates synthetic workloads, not the real world workloads. The benchmark measures the bandwidth performance by four long vector / matrix operations, like copy , scale , add , and triad (combination of other three). The algorithm assigns one of the arrays to another in order to measure the copy operation time and bandwidth. For scale operation, it multiplies the elements of an array by a scalar value. In add operation, it adds the elements of an array to the elements of another array and assigns the results to a third array. Triad does the calculations of the three operations all together (copy, scale, and add). In our evaluations, we have used the average of the results for these four ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Edict Of Milan As A Form Of Betrayal The Edict of Milan was an order given by Emperor Constantine of the Roman Empire in the year 313. This order marked the acceptance for the Christian faith within the Roman Empire after decades of persecution. Its issuance led to Christianity becoming the dominant faith in the Roman Empire, as well as the most widely practiced religion in the world today. Unfortunately the end of the persecution of Christians was cause for the persecution of pagans, resulting in cultural, political, and scientific changes. The authors of Civilizations Past Present state that before the Edict of Milan, Rome was tolerant of other religions so long as they did not threaten the empire. Christianity , however, was regarded as dangerous to the social order and the empire itself. This is because the empire worshipped gods which were not included in the Christian faith (a monotheistic system of belief). Roman officials considered Christians refusal to sacrifice to Roman gods as a form of betrayal. Additionally, Christians secluded themselves from the citizens of other faiths and denied their religions, claiming they were illegitimate. They were pacifistic individuals, refused to join the army and refused to attend events their faith decreed sinful. In the years from 23 February of AD 303 to 311, Emperor Diocletian banned Christianity throughout Rome and began the worst known persecution of its followers, condemning those who refused to sacrifice to the Roman gods ... Finally surrounded and forced to deal with his crimes, this scene slowly shows Bekert s unraveling as he loses all sense of control, submitting to the crowd of criminals surrounding him. By using elements of mise en scГЁne such as setting, blocking, and acting style, the scene shows both Berket s continual rise and fall of hope compared to the determination and absolute control of the criminals. The movement of Bekert causes a reaction from the crowd and guards, who force him back down the stairs in a chaotic struggle. By allowing the rise and fall of Bekert s emotions from calm, to shock, to complete panic, a pattern is established for the remainder of the scene and supports the control the criminals have over Bekert s fate. The crowd is silenced by the judges, the lead judge voice overlaying a tracking medium shot of all the other panel members as he explains their relation to the wall. The acid causes the normal simple stratified squamous epithelium to be destroyed and the body replaces the tissue with columnar epithelium, the same tissue present in the stomach. The disease can occur causing symptoms or can be asymptomatic. Not every patient with gastroesophageal reflux disease will develop Barrett s Esophagus and not every patient who has Barrett s Esophagus had gastroesophageal reflux disease. Screening is important to help identify patients that may be affected by the disease. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This repeated exposure to this acid over time can damage the esophagus and cause chronic inflammation damaging healthy cells. In most patients the damaged cells are repaired and new healthy squamous cells regenerate the area. In cases when a patient is diagnosed with Barrett s Esophagus the body replaces the damaged areas with metaplastic columnar epithelium.7 The exact reason the body replaces the squamous cells with columnar cells in the damaged portion of the esophagus is unknown but research is pushing for to find the exact source of why the body responds in this manner. It is believed this replacement happens because progenitor cells, which would normally would differentiate into squamous cells, differentiate into columnar cells. Other researchers believe gastroesophageal reflux might cause changes in the expression of transcription factors necessary for development which causes transdifferentiation or causing immature progenitor to differentiate into columnar rather than squamous cells.6 However, animal models indicate that the cause is a result of migration of stem cells from the cardiac portion of the stomach or developing cells from the gastroesophageal junction. Other animal models point to bone marrow progenitor cells contributing to the cell replacement.10 While this change in cells may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Theory Of Games And Economic Behaviour Although rationality provides the foundation for behavioural decision theory, current findings suggest that heuristics and biases have a significant impact on individual decision making. Rationality can only go so far in explaining individual decision making. A large part of early research into decision theory was based on the economic or normative approach, which tries to predict the actions of a so called rational decision maker . Although Bernoulli (1738) was the first to introduce the concept of utility into decision making, it was Von Neumann and Morgenstern s book, Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour which revolutionised the idea of a rational decision process. In contrast, EU theory suggests people have different attitudes toward risk some would be risk averse and prefer the guaranteed payment, even though the expected value is lower, while others would choose the riskier bet. However, EU Theory and the normative approach to decision making are not without criticisms. As with every mathematical model, EU theory is a simplified representation of reality and does not guarantee reliable predictions of human behaviour. Indeed, empirical evidence suggests the existence of systematic deviations from rationality. As Dawes (1988) wrote, People, groups, organizations, and governments make choices. Sometimes the consequences of their decisions are desirable, sometimes not (p. 2). Hence it can be argued that decision making is not purely rational (where rationality is defined as the decision predicted by EU Theory). In in attempt to create a more psychologically accurate description of decision making, Kahneman and Tversky (1979) developed Prospect Theory, which theorized that individuals have different perceptions when considering losses versus gains. In contrast to EU Theory, which suggests we make decisions that maximise our utility, research by Kahneman and Tversky (1979) found that information is not processed in such a rational way. For example, according to EU Theory, the amount of utility gained by receiving $200 should be equal to receiving $300 and losing $100 as in both situations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now your motherboard is all good to go in the case! lift up the motherboard and hover it over the case. there should be some screw holes that match up to the ones on the motherboard. Carefully lower it down and secure it with screws. Part 2 is complete! you are halfway there! next is to install the hard drive. on the back of the case, there should be a separate slot for the hard drive. it should have brackets that adjust to your hard drives size. adjust it and pull out a SATA connection from the hard drive box. this should plug right into the base of the motherboard. next, we will have to route all the connections from the power supply and the connections from the case for the lights, power button, the USB ports and the case fans. the cabling in the case should come bundled. all you need to do is find the numbers on the cables and match them up to the motherboard. *The next part is if you have a graphics card. a graphics card isn t necessary unless you plan to do some heavy gaming. but if u do have one, you should line up the golden part under the graphics card to the one on the motherboard. keep pushing it in until you hear a click and it held on firmly. screw in the graphics card to keep it secure. ... Comparison Of Tattoo-Motives And Imagery Tattoo Motives and Imagery Tattooing is definitely nothing new today: the mummified tattooed skins, ancient tattoo tools, primitive artworks that depict tattooed figures and other archaeological discoveries all suggest that tattooing has existed since around Neolithic times. It was practiced for religious and cultural reasons with varying styles and imageries across cultures. This paper will examine a few tattoo designs originated from Japan and Borneo and some traditional motifs that help us recognize their cultural roots. The process of tattooing is brutal and painful; more so in the past as it involved the chiseling of skin in some cultures. Nevertheless, tattoos have received great popularity in contemporary times, especially in America. I will therefore first explore the various reasons for which people tattoo themselves referencing Michael Atkinson s book Tattooed: The Sociogenesis of a Body Art. Meanwhile, it seems that very few scholars have examined changes in the tattoo imagery. The tattoo design in Figure 4, similarly, incorporates the solid lines from Borneo tattoo.
