- Why Twitter? Connect with others, discuss common interests, get heads up on new projects, find out what others are researching, market yourself, interact at/with conferences Why blog? Interactive, people can subscribe, personal or project based, get on Google results! Others? LinkedIn, Academia.edu, ResearchGate, Mendeley Altmetrics – keeping track of how many times an article is downloaded from an OA repository, tweeted, blogged, ‘liked’, on Facebook shared on Mendeley
- If you plan to publish journal articles in the future, you need to be aware of their publishing policies. Some will not accept work that has been published previously on a blog and different titles have different interpretations of ‘previously published’. Different journals grant different rights for re-use. It’s not just your work to re-distribute now! Check terms and conditions. Distributing articles on Twitter and Mendeley, while common practice, is probably in violation of copyright.
