This document announces a one-day workshop on critical discourse analysis (CDA) hosted by the Research Methods Laboratory in Neuchatel, Switzerland on May 9th, 2014. The workshop will introduce participants to CDA and guide them through the process of collecting data, analyzing it using CDA approaches, and developing their own CDA method. It will address what CDA is, why it is useful, what types of data it analyzes, and provide examples. Participants will have hands-on practice analyzing selected texts. The workshop runs from 10am to 5pm and costs CHF80 for non-members or CHF40 for members to register.

2. 1.This one day workshop is aimed at those with little or no knowledge of
Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and how it might be used in research
projects.
The workshop comprises four sessions as follows:
introduction to CDA
data collection & approaches to analysis
doing CDA – working with your data
developing your CDA approach & completing your project

3. •In this workshop we will consider the following questions:
• what is discourse analysis?
• what is critical discourse analysis?
• why is it useful?
• what does it analyse?
• can I do it?
• what date is available ?
• what is the unit of analysis?
• what approach to adopt?
•We will also explore:
• examples of a CDA
• written text as well as image as ‘text’
•In addition:
• you will have an opportunity to engage in the critical analysis of
selected ‘texts’
