Columbia Records
                     Brief Description:

• Colombia records’ was founded in 1888 evolving from an earlier enterprise, the
American Graphophone Company. Columbia Records had originally co-founded
CBS in 1927 but left partnership leaving the name behind. Columbia is the oldest
brand name and was the first company to produce pre-recorded records instead
of blank cylinders. From 1961-1990 records were released outside of the U.S and
Canada on the CBS records Label.

• Current artists signed to the label include:
         - Adele - One Direction
         - Aerosmith - Rita Ora
         - Alexis Jordan - Willow Smith
         - J. Cole - Beyonce

Big Mouth Entertainment
Unfortunately, the Big Mouth Entertainment website is currently
under construction but general information about the record
                   label is as follows:

-The record label is in contract with the artists ‘Ruff Diamondz’
who as group, have decided to use music by for our music video.
Through this information, I believe that the label may have signed
artists specifically related to the RnB/Hip Hop genres.
However, like many other labels, they may specify with this type
of music, but also be broad in their approach when looking for
                   new and up-coming artists.
Therefore, this is the record company that we will have to email asking for
permission to use one of the songs performed/sang by RD.
Def Jam Recordings
• Def Jam was created by Rick Rubin in his dorm room in Weinstein Hall at New York
University and its first release was a single by his punk-rock group. The first single
released with a Def Jam Recordings logo was T La Rock & Jazzy Jay’s "It's Yours."

• The first releases with Def Jam Recordings were; LL Cool J's "I Need a Beat" and
the Beastie Boys' "Rock Hard," both in 1984. The singles sold well, eventually leading
to a distribution deal with CBS Records (which would later become Sony Music
Entertainment) through Columbia Records the following year. This created a short-
lived subsidiary label called OBR Records, catered toward R&B artists — the first artist
signed to that imprint was Oran "Juice" Jones, who enjoyed success with his hit single
"The Rain".

• Def Jam also signed its first and only thrash metal band, Slayer, in 1986, and the
band's debut album was one of only two Def Jam releases to be distributed through
Geffen Records, as opposed to Columbia.
