2. EFFECTS OF SOCIAL GROUPS OR ORGANIZATION IN THE SOCIETY
Social Groups or Organizations have positive and negative effects in the society. The positive
effects are:
Social life
These organizations develop camaraderie among members and builds up
confidence to socialize with other people.
Opportunity to lead
Members are given equal opportunity to lead the group. Being a member of
these organizations trains you on how to organize a group in a broader sense.
Creates potential connections
Every member becomes a potential connection in the society. The size of the
group determines the scope of these connections. They help each other in times of need,
in job applications, and in business.
Creates lifelong relationships
These groups build up a strong bond between members for a lifelong
relationship. They make sure that each member will be treated as family to make the
group stronger and successful.
The negative effects of social groups or organizations in the society are:
Dramatic interactions
Too much socializing with the wrong people can lead to addiction of members in
alcohol, cigarettes, and worse drug addictions. And these may result to an everyday
social dramas or gang fights.
Additional Expenses
Everyone is expected to share the group’s expenses in any way. If the members
do not belong to a wealthy family, these contributions can become a burden.
Associated Stigma
Members are judged based on the reputation of their organization or group.
People will tend to assume that they know who you are and what you are like because
you belong to that certain organization or social group.
3. EFFECTS OF THE LANGUAGE OF THESE GROUPS IN THE
SOCIETY AND TO THEIR MEMBERS
Organization or social groups have their own way of communicating with their members. And
their languages are often different from that a non-member language or from the rest of the
members of the community where they are in.
Some positive effects of having their own language are:
Their own language enables private communication between members.
Their language helps hem express themselves easier following only the rules of their
language. Sometimes it helps them cover their mistakes in using the English language or
other language they have not mastered.
It serves as their identification. When someone hears them speak the language of a
certain group, they will immediately be identified as members of that group.
However, having a language of their own results to some negative effects:
Misconception between members and non-members may occur. Being a non-member of
the group, they may not receive the intended message being sent to them by a member
using the group’s language.
The daily usage of their group language may affect their original language. They might
combine some rules of their language with that of their original language; as a result,
they may forget how to use the original language properly.
Incomprehensibility of language. They will tend to ignore correct spelling and grammar
because they already have an alibi for not following these rules. Teenagers create their
own spelling and rules in grammar using a mixture of signs, letters, and numbers and
will then have failing grades in their Filipino and English subjects.
