• R.A. 9293, upon effect, affected 21st century
teachers in several ways:
• 18 (instead of 10) units in professional education are now
required to be eligible for application
• Teachers inactive for 5 years are required to “have a
refresher” in order to ensure the quality of the teachers in
the country
• Areas with few to no teachers will be catered to by para-
teachers
• DECS has been renamed into DepEd
