REPRODUCTIVESYSTEM
Male and Female reproduction
system
The function of the reproductive
system
Within the context of producing offspring,
the reproductive system has four
functions: To produce egg and sperm
cells. To transport and sustain these
cells. To nurture the developing offspring.
How the reproductive system
works
The ovaries produce the egg cells, called the ova or
oocytes. The oocytes are then transported to the fallopian
tube where fertilization by a sperm may occur. The
fertilized egg then moves to the uterus, where the uterine
lining has thickened in response to the normal hormones
of the reproductive cycle.
Diseases that threaten the reproductive
system
Gonorrhea:
can cause infections in the
genitals, rectum, and throat. It
is a very common infection,
especially among young
people ages 15-24 years.+
Chlamydia:
Painful urination.
Vaginal discharge in
women.
Discharge from the
penis in men.
Painful sexual
intercourse in
women.
Bleeding between
periods and after sex
in women.
Testicular pain in men
.
Facts about the reproductive system
The reproductive system contains the largest and smallest
human cells
A person can have a sexual transmitted
infection without any symptoms and still
transmit it to a sexual partner.
