A survey was conducted of 20 students at a school to understand their breakfast habits. 70% of students reported eating breakfast every day while 30% skipped it. The main reasons for skipping were lack of time and not feeling hungry. Most students who ate breakfast had a balanced meal including foods from different food groups like grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein. The survey concluded that eating a balanced breakfast is important for students' health, energy levels and focus during the school day.

Misconceptions about current breast feeding, weaning and other health-related matters are commonly heard in the cultures of developing countries. The pattern of feeding during the first two years of life is increasingly recognised as important determinants of malnutrition. Breastfed children have at least six times greater chance of survival in the early months than non-breast children. The benefits of breastfeeding depend upon the initiation of breast-feeding, its duration and the age at which the child is weaned. Various myths regarding breastfeeding are like colostrum should not be given to children, mother should not breastfeed if suffering from an infection, infants need water also apart from breastmilk, etc. The National Family Health Survey III data released in India in 2005-06 has revealed that only 23.4% newborns in India are given breast milk within first hour of birth.The aim of this study was to review the literature regarding myths, beliefs and practices relating to breastfeeding and complementary feeding in infants.

The group created a healthy fruit juice called "Health Booster Fruit Juice" containing green apple, orange, carrot, yogurt, raisins, and cinnamon sugar. The ingredients provided various vitamins, minerals, fibers, and other nutrients. Classmates and a teacher enjoyed the juice and said it was delicious and refreshing. The group also conducted a survey that found most students at their school ate breakfast regularly, recognizing its importance, while a minority did not have time or were not hungry.

Low birth weight is one of the major problems for the new born baby throughout its life. It is the single most important factor determining the survival chances of the child. Many of them die during their first year. The weight of the baby is the best indicator to evaluate the newborn as well as the maternal health and the nutritional status of the mother. Most of the extreme low birth weight baby dies in the early months or year. And those who survive will have various health problem in their future life like muscle weakness, low IQ, heart problem, diabetes etc. Low birth weight can be prevented by providing proper nutrition and avoiding various unwanted things like smoking, alcohol consumption, medication without prescription & over exertion of the body which will lead to tiredness & weakness. Various research studies were also done to find the causes, prevention & treatment of Low birth weight.

Background: Feeding practices and illnesses during infancy are of critical importance for growth and
development of children .Though several programs have been implemented by WHO and UNICEF to improve
the health status of newborn and infant, child morbidity and mortality rates in rural area are still higher
compared to urban areas in India.
Objective: To assess the feeding practices and morbidity patterns of infants in a rural field practice area .
Methodology: A longitudinal study was undertaken in field practice area under community medicine
Department, Guntur from Jan 2013 to march 2014.A birth cohort of hundred children born during first 3
months of study period were assessed and followed up till they attained 1year age .Data collected on feeding
practices ,infant illnesses and socio-demographic factors.
Results: The incidence of episodes of morbidity was 2.78 per infant per year. Respiratory Tract Infections are
most common observed illness followed by diarrhea .Majority of the mothers (90%)
Were given colostrum ,50% were breast fed their babies with in 1 hour of delivery,60% were given
EBF(Exclusive Breast Feeding ). The illnesses are less common in first 6 months of infancy compared to
letter half of life .A Significant association between feeding practices and morbidities
Conclusion: Hence focusing education on faulty feeding practices and implementation of IMNCI(integrated
management of newborn and childhood illnesses ) at gross root level by health workers need to be emphasized

Diet intake trends among pregnant women in rural area of rawalpindi, pakistan
Background: Adequate and healthy diet during pregnancy is essential for the health of both mother and new-born. This study was designed to know the health status of pregnant women and new-born by determining food taking habits of pregnant women. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on pregnant women of 2nd and 3rd trimester in a rural area of district Rawalpindi. Food frequency questionnaire and 24 hours dietary recall methods were used to identify their food consumption practices. Analysis was done by SPSS, while Nutrisurvey software was used to check the presence of Vitamin A, C, and Iron in specific fruits or vegetables. Results: A total of 110 pregnant women participated in the study. Most of them were illiterate, had low household income, and unemployed. Intake of meal frequency was according to the standards of Institute of Medicine (IOM), but food group consumption was not according to the recommendations of the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA). Most participants 102 (93.2%) knew that food is important during pregnancy. However an increase in frequency intake was observed in 63 (57.3%); while, 19 (17.3%) reported no change in food intake practices. About 67 (61%) were taking some sort of dietary supplements. Avoidance of any food 24 (22%), intake of additional food 51 (46%), craving 86 (78%), and aversion to any sort of food 42 (38%) was also identified in the study sample. No significant association was found between food group consumption, food availability and accessibility. Dietary diversity score, calculated according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) guidelines, indicated that about half study participants were not consuming adequate food. Conclusion: Study results show that food intake practices of pregnant women in the study area were not satisfactory. The results suggest that pregnant women need nutrition counselling regarding food intake practices during pregnancy.

- 1. Report: Survey A Survey On Breakfast Last Thursday on 13th August, my group and I conducted a survey regarding breakfast. We distributed 20 questionnaires to 20 students in our school from Form 1 Cekal, 1 Amal and Form 2 Cekal. Based on the 20 students involved in the survey, 14 said they take breakfast (70%) everyday. Meanwhile, 6 students admitted that they do not take their breakfast (30%). We think that it is very unhealthy for them to skip their breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day. The students gave reasons why they did not take their breakfast. A majority of the students said that they do not have time to prepare or take their breakfast. The second reason they gave was because they are not hungry. Others gave reasons such as they do not want to gain any weight or their breakfast are not prepared. Besides, the numbers of students who eat balanced breakfast are more than the number of students who do not eat balanced breakfast. Majority of the students eat bread and cereals for their breakfast. Some have fruits and vegetables while others preferred milk, nuts, beans and dairy products. It shows that most of the students in our school are healthy because they eat meals which have many kinds of nutrients which includes carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals in the right amount. This is important for an active day at school. We think that all the students should take breakfast before going to school because healthy breakfast increases longevity and better health. Furthermore, starting your day with a good breakfast boosts your energy, increases your attention span, and heightens your sense of well-being. You’ll be in better control of your emotions. Moreover, a good breakfast is one that provides at least one third of the day’s calories. So, we should have our breakfast before going to school or work.
