External equity - pay structures - Manu Melwin Joymanumelwin
This document discusses external equity in compensation structures. External equity exists when employees perceive they are fairly rewarded compared to those in similar jobs elsewhere. An organization's pay rates should be at least equal to average market or sector rates to attract and retain qualified employees. Compensation surveys are important to evaluate if pay and benefits are comparable to other organizations for similar roles. Non-monetary factors like benefits, job security, and advancement opportunities also impact perceptions of external equity. Comparisons must account for differences in roles, sectors, and work hours between organizations.
The document discusses compensation issues in global relocations and attracting Generation Y employees. It provides details on minimum salary requirements in countries like Malaysia, UAE, China, India, Japan and Canada. Productivity-linked wage systems tie wages to productivity but issues include Malaysia's relatively low productivity. To attract and retain Gen Y, companies should provide training, better work environments and compensation while employees job hop for more experience and reward.
This document discusses equity in compensation. It begins by defining compensation models and equity, including definitions of equity theory and types of equity compensation. It then discusses organizational justice, including the three types: distributive, procedural, and interactional justice. It provides an overview of where Malaysia stands globally in terms of equity compensation by examining its Gini coefficient and per capita income. Finally, it discusses the cause-and-effect relationship between equity in compensation and factors like motivation, turnover, satisfaction, and performance.
This document discusses compensation and related concepts like equity theory. It covers topics such as the importance of compensation in attracting/retaining employees and ensuring performance. Components of compensation include direct wages/salary and indirect benefits. Equity theory examines internal/external equity and individual equity. The document also discusses legal issues in compensation and key strategic considerations. Job evaluation methods and a point system example are provided.
This chapter discusses key concepts in developing an organization's pay structure, including setting pay levels, conducting market pay surveys, developing internal job structures, and ensuring pay equity and fairness. Factors Influencing the Choice of Business Education in Bangladesh..pdf
Report o different University
1. Part # 1
Introduction
Education is a most basic part of human life. This is the fourth basic need of
human being. There we have various education lines, such as, Science, Arts and
Commerce. In this all group we have undergraduate, graduate, PHD, etc.
Business Education is something that does not need to have any type of
introduction in these days. The student of every group can be enrolled in
business studies. BBA and MBA seems to be the most popular educational degrees
of the day.
Competition of business for sustaining better quality of life both for civil society,
general mass including the workforce in any countries highly depends on both of
quantitative and qualitative improvement of education for base level to higher-
level education. Competitative and qualitative mind set never be obtained in any
society without developing quality of education in different form of educational
faculties.
Today’s business education that we know as BBA & MBA originated in North
America, where these were introduced under the discipline of Business
Administration. The idea of teaching Business Administration as a separate and
distinct field of study emerged in our country in the mid sixties. At that time the
need for professional managers to run the industrial activities in both the public
and private sectors were badly felt. At first, IBA came into existence as a
pioneering institution following the North American model, in 1966. At that time
IBA provided only the MBA program, which was designed in line with the
curriculum of the Graduate School of Business, Indiana University, Bloomington
campus. Till early 90’s IBA was the only business school of this country.
Certainly, both quantity and quality of education have no alternative for facing
these challenges. Considering the dire needs of business challenges and obtaining
better quality of life private sector lead academic system have become
instrumental for Bangladesh. Therefore, Government of Bangladesh passed a
Private University Law in the year 1992 exclusively for higher education
2. through National Parliament for giving legal participation and open the
modalities to encourage private sector intellectual to establish an extend
academic opportunity under private management. This law has also been
amended in the year 1996 for giving wider coverage for smooth growth of
education under private sector. From 1992 to 2005, more than 54 private
institutions for higher education have got approval and most of those are already
in operation. Almost all of these institutions are providing BBA or MBA or both
along with other subjects.
Currently there are many private and public institutions in Dhaka City providing
business education. The offering and characteristics of the programs provided by
these institutions vary. Significant variances can be observed both in offerings for
subject specializations (majors) and individual subject offerings under each
specialization categories. This assignment aims at making a descriptive study on
the subject specializations (majors) and courses offered under major areas with
particular focus on Marketing, Finance and human resource management
(HRM).

Selection of Marketing, Finance and HRM
Major/Specialization by the Students
Here we present data representing the volume of enrollment in the major areas
of various Private University. In the following tables we have shown the
students enrolled in the marketing, finance and HRM. These data have been
collected from the respondent of respected institutions.
In BBA Program, we see that Marketing is the most popular between the
three major courses. All Private University, have more student in
Marketing than in the major areas. Finance is in the next in major
choices. HRM is popular in now a day, so many Universities offer HRM.
In MBA Program, we see that Marketing, Finance and HRM are offered by
all Universities, which’s data is available. Some other offered MIS and
International Business.
But we have a list of only eight Private Universities to visit. So other high level
Universities does not evaluate the report. Other Group can evaluate their report
with their listed Universities.
For these we can evaluate the data of those Private Universities, which are listed
under our group. They are given in table of below:

13. Major and Courses Offered
Various Private Universities are different in nature. Some offered major or
specialization, and in some University, there are no opportunities take major
in BBA Program. Most of these Universities offer majors in Marketing,
Finance and HRM. Beside these common major areas they are also give the
opportunity to take major as MIS (Management in Information System),
Accounting and also International Business. The courses offered under the
major areas are more or less the same for the business schools.
In MBA Program the area of major is relevant to BBA Program. AUB, DIU, DI,
and EU also offered General and Executive MBA Program.
The tables in the following pages present the major areas of major offered by the
eight (8) Private Universities, and also the courses under each major area.

Finding
According the survey on eight Private University we found out the following
facts about the various business schools curriculum:
Within eight University, which are in our sample, in BBA Program, three
University offered major or specialization. Three Universities doesn’t offer
major in BBA Program. One is new, so it’s also can’t offer major. And the
rest one have some problem give their data relevant the survey.
The PU has sickness to give their data to lick out. Because, they are afraid to
highlight their internal data to others, for any survey purpose.
In AUB the number of teacher is applied for both Dhanmondi campus and
also Uttara campus, with their full time teacher.
The EU has a good form in MBA Program, then others. From their
University many students completed their MBA General and also MBA
Executive Program.
DIU is not so old, but they had a good position in BBA Program. Because,
they are listed in the first nine Private University by the Ministry of
Education’s survey report.
The BUBT is a new one in Private University, which has only 2nd
batch in
their all Department. But they had a greater chance to progress in future,
because their many Part time teachers are come from Dhaka Commerce
College (DCC). They also give special offers to the Students of DCC in
admission in both BBA Program and MBA Program.
23. Here we see that the University that offered major in BBA Program, every
one offered marketing and finance. In MBA program the University that
offered marketing, finance and HRM.
In BBA program DIA and DI offered HRM major and UDA offer Accounting,
as major. In MBA Program DI and EU offered MIS major and EU offered
International Business, as major.
AUB is not offered any Major in BBA Program. In MBA Program AUB
offered major, but the data is not available in to responder.
EU doesn’t offered major in BBA Program. But they are thinking about offer
major from next year, because many Universities offered major in BBA
Program.
UDA is a special one, which offered Accounting for major in BBA Program.
Now a day the various University want not offer Accounting as major,
because it is not popular to their student.
DI offered MIS major in BBA Program, but in this semester few student
want to take MIS as major. So they cannot offer MIS in this Semester.
EU offered International Business major in MBA Program. This subject is
offered specially for Executive MBA.
In choosing course under major in BBA Program, there are similarity
between every university in Marketing and Finance. But in HRM every
University have different courses, which are not followed with each other.
In Marketing major, DIU offered two separate courses, DI offered one
course and UDA offered three separate courses, in BBA Program.
24. In Finance major, DI offered one separate course, and UDA offered two
separate courses, in BBA Program. Others are similar in every University.
In MBA Program, there are similarities of course between every university
in Finance, Marketing and HRM. But GU has one course in Finance, and
three courses in HRM, which are not offered by others.
In Marketing major, DI offered one separate course, and GU offered two
separate courses in MBA Program.
In Finance major, only DI offered one separate course in MBA Program.
In HRM major, DIU offered two separate courses, DI offered one separate
course, and EU offered one separate course, in MBA Program.
The BUBT is new one in MBA Program, they try to introduce to the students
with several different specialties.
25. Part # 7
Conclusion
As a conclusion we can said that the business study has become a good position
in the field of education in Bangladesh. In the survey we also estimate that, the
Universities are offering standardized courses and also area of majors or
specialization. The courses, which are offered under the head of major, are found
more or less similar to the all Universities. But in HRM there are no similarities
between the Universities at BBA Program. And other two offered MIS as major
with near and different courses.
In our list we have only eight Private Universities. Within these no any High level
University we can visit. So it is difficult for us to assessment the real position of
Business study. We try our best to prepare the report.
But now, the question remains, will these Universities be able to maintain the
standard and quality of education and provide Bangladesh with a strong base of
business education in the future? The answer can only be found in the coming
years.

31. Executive Summary
Knowledge is a combination of both theoretical and practical in nature. Practical
knowledge is more important than theoretical. To earn practical knowledge
we must earn theoretical knowledge. So practical and theoretical knowledge
both is important. After studying the theoretical concepts of a topic,
understanding its practical implications and applications is the next step in
the learning process. This assignment of our Operation Research (309)
course is a part of the second step. For this report, we were asked to find out
about the major subject specializations and individual subjects offered under
each of those majors in the listed Private University of Dhaka City in both
BBA and MBA programs. Here we have focused on marketing, finance and
human resource management (HRM) majors for compilation of this report.
The listed eight (8) Private Universities of Dhaka city have been selected
and covered in this study. These business schools include educational
campuses in Dhaka, in Mirpur road and near to Mirpur road. A
descriptive study was undertaken to find out about the subject matter of
this report. Interviews were conducted with program coordinators,
registrars, assistant registrars and relevant personnel’s of the covered
business schools by the group members with the help of interviewer
questionnaires for collecting necessary information. The secondary data
was collected from Information booklets, brochures, etc. were also
collected from those business schools. These information booklets and
brochures have been included with the report for further consultation.
For better understanding the collected primary information was sorted
and compiled in the table. We identified the majors and courses offered
under each of those majors. After that we analyzed and findings based on
the analysis were presented next. At last, we recommended some
enhancements and adjustments to the existing majors and course
offerings, which we hope would make most of the already laudable
business programs offered by the business schools even more perfect and
appreciable.
