1) A numerical study was conducted using ANSYS Workbench 14.0 to analyze why an automotive support part was failing after assembly. 2) The part was 3D scanned and converted to a model that was analyzed in ANSYS. It was found that the part experiences uneven stresses and pressure distribution due to how it is clamped, leading to a faulty seal with adhesive. 3) To solve the problem, the part needs to be redesigned so that the pressure distribution is even when clamped, or a different fixture method needs to be used other than adhesive.
