Final Paper
Internship in COPEAM (Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators) in Rome (RM)
INTERNSHIP FINAL OBJECTIVES
The internship in COPEAM was intended both to learn notions about international cooperation in the field
of audio-visual and to experience the work of a no-profit organization (as COPEAM is), taking into
consideration, also, the importance of applying for EU announcements. Finally, the stage in COPEAM aimed
to provide support in the creation of multimedia content for COPEAM’s official accounts (such as LinkedIn
and Facebook), rather than in video editing.
ABOUT COPEAM
COPEAM (Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators is a no-profit organization,
founded in 1996 in Cairo, that operates in the field of ICTs and international cooperation, with the aim of
promoting international dialogue. Its General Secretariat is placed in Rome, in via Alberto Cadlolo 90, within
RAI (Italian Radio and Television) offices. COPEAM addresses its actions to public and private broadcasters
of the Mediterranean Area, setting up connections among audio-visual operators, media industry entities,
research centres and NGOs.
Today, COPEAM includes about 70 members from 26 European, Balkans, North-Africa and Middle East
countries, among which 35 radio and TV broadcasters. COPEAM can enumerate ASBU-Arab States
Broadcasting Union and the EBU-European Broadcasting Union as partners in developing initiatives and
projects; in addition, it actively cooperates with other international organizations (Anna Lindh Foundation,
European Investment Bank, Embassies’ cultural offices, UN agencies i.e. UNESCO, UNHCR, IFAD, etc.),
generating awareness-raising media campaigns on relevant global issues: environment, migration, youth,
cultural diversity.
The organizations structure is articulated in 7 Commissions (Audiovisual Heritage Commission; Cinema,
Festival, Culture Commission; Gender Equality Commission; Training Commission; TV Magazines and News
Exchange Commission; Radio Commission; TV Commission): each of them concerns a topic and is focused on
applying for announcements, both as leader and partner (i.e. those of the European Commission) – working
in cooperation with other entities from the European Continent and Africa as well - , rather than planning
formative workshops and activities dedicated to associated members. The Commissions actively cooperate
and share their experiences and knowledge, using cross-cutting capacities. Moreover, COPEAM coordinates
international radio and TV co-productions, supporting the development of gender equality policies and
awareness in the media industry.
TRAINING EXPERIENCE
As an Internship trainee, my experience in COPEAM was based
upon the fields expressed in the “internship final objectives”.
In particular, the activities undertaken consisted of creating
multimedia content for both COPEAM LinkedIn and Facebook
official accounts, using professional programs (such as Adobe),
within the Audiovisual Heritage Commission and the Gender Equality Commission.
Within the same Commissions, it was necessary to work on
the 2nd
edition of the contest (launched by COPEAM) Making
a Story from Archives, addressed to COPEAM members -
both private and public broadcasters of the Balkans and
South Mediterranean. Within the current edition, COPEAM
received 4 candidatures, namely from RTV (Radio Television
of Vojvodina), RTVSLO (Rtv Slovenija), Télévision Tunisienne
(Tunisian Television) and TVR (Romanian Television). In
particular, the tasks concerned the creation of an evaluation
grid, the valuation of the video sent by each broadcaster
entity and the translation of a time code of the Tunisian Television, from French to English.
Concerning audio-visual contents, I edited the video of the
COPEAM Annual Conference 2019, held in Split (Croatia)
from April 4 to April 6; focusing on that of April 6 (morning)
and creating shorter videos for each intervention in the
conference. The shortened videos were later published as
a playlist on COPEAM’s official YouTube account, and are
available here (http://bit.ly/2YaCyCj).
With regard to Research work within the Gender
Equality Commission, I worked on collecting data
and evidences of “Good Practices” for European
Union EU-funded project AGeMI - Advancing
Gender Equality in Media Industries
(https://www.agemi-eu.org/), whose the University
of Padova is partner (along with Newcastle
University, University of Gothenburg, European Federation of Journalists and Gi.U.Li.A – Network of Women
Journalists, Italy).
Considering the Cinema, Festival and Culture
Commission, I worked on manually adding Italian
subtitles to 3 short films, which have been presented
during the RomAfrica Film Festival (held in Rome
between July 10 and July 14). The short films were created by students of Cinema Academies, that are
COPEAM partners.
Within the EU co-funded project SouthMed WiA (South Mediterranean Women in Audiovisual), implemented
by COPEAM along with other organisations, my assignment concerned the analysis of both Mid-Term and
Final Technical Reports written by the subgrantees. Moreover, I designed the SouthMed WiA’s publication,
that will be uploaded in SouthMed WiA’s official website.

In particular, the activities undertaken consisted of creating multimedia content for both COPEAM LinkedIn and Facebook official accounts, using professional programs (such as Adobe), within the Audiovisual Heritage Commission and the Gender Equality Commission. Within the same Commissions, it was necessary to work on the 2nd edition of the contest (launched by COPEAM) Making a Story from Archives, addressed to COPEAM members - both private and public broadcasters of the Balkans and South Mediterranean. Within the current edition, COPEAM received 4 candidatures, namely from RTV (Radio Television of Vojvodina), RTVSLO (Rtv Slovenija), Télévision Tunisienne (Tunisian Television) and TVR (Romanian Television). In particular, the tasks concerned the creation of an evaluation grid, the valuation of the video sent by each broadcaster entity and the translation of a time code of the Tunisian Television, from French to English. Concerning audio-visual contents, I edited the video of the COPEAM Annual Conference 2019, held in Split (Croatia) from April 4 to April 6; focusing on that of April 6 (morning) and creating shorter videos for each intervention in the conference. The shortened videos were later published as a playlist on COPEAM’s official YouTube account, and are available here (http://bit.ly/2YaCyCj).

With regard to Research work within the Gender Equality Commission, I worked on collecting data and evidences of “Good Practices” for European Union EU-funded project AGeMI - Advancing Gender Equality in Media Industries (https://www.agemi-eu.org/), whose the University of Padova is partner (along with Newcastle University, University of Gothenburg, European Federation of Journalists and Gi.U.Li.A – Network of Women Journalists, Italy). Considering the Cinema, Festival and Culture Commission, I worked on manually adding Italian subtitles to 3 short films, which have been presented during the RomAfrica Film Festival (held in Rome between July 10 and July 14). The short films were created by students of Cinema Academies, that are COPEAM partners. Within the EU co-funded project SouthMed WiA (South Mediterranean Women in Audiovisual), implemented by COPEAM along with other organisations, my assignment concerned the analysis of both Mid-Term and Final Technical Reports written by the subgrantees. Moreover, I designed the SouthMed WiA’s publication, that will be uploaded in SouthMed WiA’s official website.
