Heart Healthy - Stress relief and
relaxation techniques for better health
and wellness
November 20, 2012
STRESS
· Stress is the body’s way of responding to
demands placed upon it. There are different
types of stressors:
●Survival Stress – a common response to
fear or danger of being physically hurt (flight
or flight);
●Internal Stress - worrying about things you
cannot change or control; even feeling stress
about things that are not stressful;
●Environmental Stress – being in crowds,
work pressure, or family pressures
God grant me the serenity to accept
the things I cannot change, the
Courage to change the things I can and
the Wisdom to know the difference.
Serenity
Think of us as beings of
light energy and absence
of light or energy as
illness or being unwell.

What is body? What is mind?
What is spirit?
when life gives you lemons ...
· The Yang style (slow and soft movements) are what I
teach and have been instructed in. Some describe the
movements as “meditation in motion” Most agree that it is
at least 3000 years old and dates back to the Yellow
Emperor of China (Huangti). He introduced the earliest
form of martial arts to China. Because he was also good in
medicine (he has been credited with the invention of the
principles of TCM – Traditional Chinese Medicine). He
recognized the art of tai chi was good for both health and
self-defense. This is considered a “soft” or “internal” art,
practiced by billions of people all over the world.
Tai Chi
The word means “union” in Sanskrit which is the language
of ancient India where yoga originated. Usually we think of
the uinon of mind, body, and spirit in Yoga. The practice is
of physical postures “asanas” and breathing techniques
“pranayama” along with meditation.
Stilling the waves of the mind ....Pantanjali
Yoga
A form of body work that focuses primarily on the feet.
The theory behind this is that there are reflexive areas on
the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs,
glands, and other parts of the body. Practitioners believe
that applying pressure to these reflex areas can promote
health in the corresponding organs. Most people find this
to be very relaxing.
Reflexology
Founded or rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui this is
aJapanese technique for stress reduction and wellness.
Promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands”.
The idea is that unseen life force energy flows through us
and is what causes us to be alive. Or as Dr. Wayne W.
Dyer phrased it we are spiritual beings having a
human/physical experience. If one’s life force energy is low
then we are more likely to be sick, or feel stress. Rei
means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki means
life force energy. So Reiki is spiritually guided life force
energy.
Reiki
If I have harmed anyone in any way either
knowingly or unknowingly through my own
confusions I ask their forgiveness. If anyone
has harmed me in any way either knowingly or
unknowingly through their own confusions I
forgive them. And if there is a situation I am
not yet ready to forgive I forgive myself for
that. For all the ways that I harm myself,
negate, doubt, belittle myself, judge or be
unkind to myself through my own confusions I
forgive myself.
Buddhist Prayer of Forgiveness
A Journey of a
Thousand Miles
begins with a single
step.
