Prepare for Reimaging

1. Clean Up Files

• Look through your files in
  Downloads, Documents, &
  Desktop folders.
• Organize them.
• Delete files you don’t need.
     Estimated time of completion: 10 minutes
2. Backup

• Use Time Machine to
   back up your
   computer.
• Don’t know how?

3. Save Stickies

• Copy & paste text
  from sticky notes into
  another document &
  back it up or email it
  to yourself.

4. Back Up Bookmarks

• Back up your
  bookmarks.
• Not sure how?

5. Back Up Fonts


• If you have added
  fonts, back them up.

1. Open Font Book
2. Click the font you
   want.
3. Click File > Export
   Fonts
4. Back it up or email to
   yourself.

6. Back Up Widgets

• Make a list of the
  widgets you installed.
• Download them again
  after the reimage.

7. Other Applications?

• Make a list of the
  applications you have
  added to your
  computer.

Create Your Account

1. Log In


• Name: KIS
• No password
2. Create Your Account


• Open System Preferences
• Click on Users & Groups
2. Create Your Account

• Click on the lock
• Name: KIS
• There is no
  password
• Click on +
2. Create Your Account
• Change account
  from Standard to
  Administrator
• Fill in all information
• Account name is
  your Mac ID
• Click Create User
3. Remove KIS Account


• Click on the Apple
  menu and then Log
  Out KIS...

• Use the Name &
  Password you just
  created.

• Open System Preferences
• Click on Users & Groups

• Click on the lock

• Change the computer
  name to your Mac ID
  (usually it is your first
  initial & last name)
• Press return & your
  Mac ID should be
  visible here
Update Software

Update Software

• Click the  and then Software Update
• Install all recommended software.
• Restart computer.
Set Finder Preferences

• Click on Finder then
  Preferences
• Click on General
• Make sure the top
  four boxes are
  checked.
2. Sidebar


• Click on Sidebar
• Make all the boxes
  are checked.
Restore Files



Estimated time of completion: 75 minutes
1. Connect Hard Drive


• Connect your
  external hard drive
  to your laptop.
2. Move Files to Laptop
• Go to your
  Applications folder
• Open Time Machine.
• Click Use Previous
  Disk
• Select your backup
  disk & click Use
  Selected Disk
2. Move Files to Laptop

• Click on your external hard drive, then click
  on the file Backups.backupdb.
• Click on the file that is named with your
  Mac ID > Latest > Mac HDD > Users
2. Move Files to Laptop
 • Click on the file   • Click on the
   named with           Gear & select
   your Mac ID.         Restore “Mac

  choose the folder

  text you saved back
  into sticky notes.

• Double-click on the
  font you want to add.
• Font Book will open.
• Click Install Font.
7. Install Widgets
• Download the
  widgets from http://
  www.apple.com/
  downloads/
  dashboard/
• Then double-click to
  install.
8. Install Applications?

• Download the
  applications that you
  had previously
  installed on your
  computer and install
  them.
