What are the challenges of legislation in times of accelerating technological change? How can policymakers propose, discuss, adopt, implement the right frameworks? What is the speed required of the necessary feedback loops in measuring the effects of the new rules, and how can they be updated efficiently? Are the benefits of the new platforms, often operating on the edge or actually outside of existing regulations, worth the disruption they create?

For the past 150 years, how humans generate food, water, and energy has involved wasting one to produce the other, and treating each as a negative externality or commodity with no marginal cost to make the economics work. Oil and gas is produced via fracking, but profitability depends on providing millions of gallons of water per well at no cost. Natural gas is used to produce NH3 (ammonia), which underpins the green revolution, but that same natural gas also leaks from wells far more than has been acknowledged and exacerbates global warming, causes droughts and killing crops in heat waves. Ethanol is produced from corn, but only by pretending that the loss of top soil is not an issue nor a wasting asset to be depreciated. The Network Society will bring with it not only quadruple revolutions in food, water, energy, and ecosystems, but also, more simply, more true and accurate accounting for all the natural resources, including species diversity.

Stigmergic Economy And Large-Scale, Decentralized Networks - Matan FieldNetwork Society Research
What would it look like if billions of people would be spontaneously, freely and systematically cooperating with each other, on anything? Imagine a self-organized world, with Facebook network but no Facebook Inc., a decentralised transportation network without Lyft or Uber, peer-to-peer marketplaces replacing eBay or Amazon, millions of people insuring each others and building startups together.
This vision is beginning to unfold, with the advent of the blockchain — a decentralized computer —rapidly developing over the last couple of years. Backfeed completes the picture with a set of economic and collaborative protocols, including a p2p review, evaluation and reputation system, distribution of value-carrying tokens and incentive model for the indirect coordination of agents. Imagine a new economic framework, where collaboration is the winning strategy.
In fact, Nature has already came up with an example millions years ago. Ants, birds and fish make up amazingly complex and seemingly intelligent structures in a spontaneous and decentralized way. It is called Stigmergy — a signal-based, indirect coordination of agents. Backfeed’s protocols do the same for human being, but in a generic and systematic manner, fitting any type of cooperation.
In my talk I will present the state-of-the art of decentralized models for cooperation and distributed architecture, the tools and platform, and some preliminary real use cases in the making.

Network thinking. The incoming new decentralised age from a design perspectiv...Network Society Research
This talk is a 3 steps fast forward journey into design. What is design today -aka- the switch of traditional business leadership. Why business and money loves Design (Design Thinking and beyond). Technologies are shaping us faster than we think: Smart connected objects are natural born storytellers. Design rules for a highly networked -post cloud computing- world.
Technology is the solid basis of a sustainable socioeconomic organization. If it is not there, moral systems are just aspirations. Once it arrives, the changes become unstoppable. Are we in front of a fundamental phase transformation of our globally connected technological society? Yes, a deep and wide wave of technologies is coming together all characterized by the decentralization of the fundamental pillars of our nation states and enterprises. The necessary adaptations to the way we work, vote, learn, live must happen in a manner to maximize our opportunities to thrive, and minimize suffering and social disruption.

A set of simultaneous technologies is growing exponentially, with the common feature of being decentralized, and organized in a network. This contrasts with the centralized and hierarchical organization of today’s traditional society and its basic functions. The shift from the old to the new structure will subject the Nation State to an unprecedented pressure. The Network Society project creates a vision and analytical tools to allow individuals, enterprises and the society at large to deal positively with this unstoppable change.

Lessons Learned from Constitution-making: Processes with Broad Based Public P...Jamaity
The élection of the Constituent Assembly in Tunisia is a milestone on the path towards a stable, peaceful and democratic future. Now one of the most important challenges is to ensure that the people of Tunisia can adequately participate in the constitution-making process. The democratic revolution that unified Tunisians should not be translated into a technocratic process with little public involvement and understanding.
Although there are various approaches to participatory constitution-making, past decades have seen a clear trend towards broad public participation in constitutional reform all over the world. Such public participation entails the direct involvement of citizens in constitution-making, giving them a chance to influence decision-makers and the outcome of the process.
This trend is supported by international law, notably the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The ICCPR establishes minimum obligations for participation in public affairs that are also applicable to constitution making processes and give citizens an individual right to participate in constitution-making. While this right may be subject to conditions, namely whether citizens participate directly or through representatives, it must not be restricted in unreasonable or discriminatory ways.

The rise of nationalism
Introduction
The rise of nationalism poses a threat to globalization and the set of values that the international community has sought to develop in the past. The election of President Donald Trump and Brexit threatened the neoliberal agenda that has promoted free enterprise and globalization. Understanding the rise of nationalism provides an effective instrument for identifying effective intervention measures.

Research Question
· What has caused the resurgence of nationalism?
Hypothesis
The examination of rising populism and nationalism in different parts of the world is expected to demonstrate that the rise of inequality due to neoliberalism is responsible for the push for countries to retreat from the world stage. An examination of Brexit, the election of President Donald Trump and the resurgence of nationalist parties across Europe will demonstrate that the intersection of globalization and technology has contributed to create opportunities for only a small segment of the global population. In light of this hypothesis, it is expected that the path forward lie in redesigning the global economic system to promote shared prosperity in the world. Comment by angela parham: Your hypothesis should be something that you can actually test, what's called a testable hypothesis. In other words, you need to be able to measure both "what you do" and "what will happen." Most of the time a hypothesis is written like this: "If _____[I do this] _____, then _____[this]_____ will happen." Your hypothesis should always explain what you expect to happen during the course of your research.
Data collection
Qualitative research will be used in this study due to the need to synthesize existing literature on the subject and the perspectives of stakeholders in the society. The exploratory research approach will enable the researcher to find effective answers for the research questions (Jamshed, 2014). In particular, it will highlight the underlying reasons, motivations and causes of the rise in the nationalist movement in the modern society. Qualitative research is used to identify trends in thought and phenomena (Jamshed, 2014). Survey research and focus groups will be used to collect data on the subject. The survey research will include both semi-structured and structured questions that will be administered online. Purposive sampling will be used to ensure that the participants are drawn from different social groups. In addition, focus groups will be used to have an in-depth discussion with different stakeholders on the rise of nationalism. The data that will be collected will be analyzed in conjunction with the existing literature (Jamshed, 2014). The approach will enable the researcher to contextualize the insights that will be drawn from the data collection process. Comment by angela parham: ...

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
