This document provides instructions for Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies (BMS) students at UTEP on registering for courses. It explains that BMS students can enroll in classes at UTEP as well as other UT System institutions online using the Goldmine registration system for UTEP classes and the Texas Information Source (TIS) for UT System classes. The document offers step-by-step directions on searching for, selecting, and registering for classes on both Goldmine and TIS, as well as on dropping classes through the different systems.
2. Registration Processes
BMS students are able to enroll in face-to-face and
online classes at UTEP as well as online classes at
other UT System institutions.
You will register for UTEP classes using UTEP’s
Goldmine.
You will register for UT System classes using TIS.
3. How to Register on Goldmine
Using your UTEP account click on the Goldmine link or
go to goldmine.utep.edu. Click on the Registration link.
4. How to Register on Goldmine
Click on Look-up Classes to search for courses.
5. How to Register on Goldmine
Select the semester of the courses and click submit.
6. How to Register on Goldmine
Course levels
Lower-division courses are freshman and sophomore
level courses (13xx and 23xx).
Upper-division courses are junior and senior level
courses (33xx and 43xx).
7. How to Register on Goldmine
Select the course subject and click search or click on
Advanced Search for more specific options.
8. How to Register on Goldmine
Click on the View Sections link to view the times and
days of the section.
9. How to Register on Goldmine
You can see the time, day, section, location and
professor for the course. Click on the button to select
the course you want to register for.
10. Dropping Courses
You can drop a course in one of the following ways:
1. Through the Goldmine registration system.
2. Send an email from your UTEP account to
records@utep.edu. It must be from your UTEP account.
3. Send a fax to 915-747-8764. You must sign it and include a
clear copy of a valid picture ID.
4. Visit the Enrollment Services Center or Registration and
Records Office. Have a valid photo ID with you.
5. TIS courses must dropped thru the host institution. (The
above will not apply to TIS courses)
11. Dropping Courses
If you send an email or a fax to drop a course,
make sure it includes the following important
information:
Your name
Student ID
Term (Fall 2013, for example)
CRN(s) of the course(s)
Subject(s) and course number(s)
Reason for dropping
12. How to Create a TIS Account
Create an account by clicking on the Create student
account link.
13. Searching for Courses
Once your account has been created, do a general
search. Leave all fields blank and click the search
link to see available courses for the coming
semester.
14. Available Courses
If courses are still available then you can select
them and submit them.
There are three approvals that are needed in order
to be registered for the courses.
Advisor approval: your advisor will check that the
courses selected will be used in the degree plan.
Home Campus Registrar: UTEP’s registrar will confirm
that you are eligible to take courses.
Host Campus Registrar: the host campus registrar will
check the availability of seats in the course and approve
or deny registration to the course.
15. TIS Course Registration
If TIS courses are approved by all parties then the
courses will be added to your UTEP registration
and the BMS degree plan.
If you don’t see your TIS courses listed on your
goldmine account, contact the Registration Office
or the BMS Advising Office.

16. Dropping Courses on TIS
To drop courses from the TIS site, contact the host
campus Registrar Office.
