2. WOMEN IN REGENCY
They were concentrated on beauty and
how to be worthy wives from a very
young age. They had very little controls
of their lives and the only thing that
would provide them with security was
marriage. Prior to marriage, a woman’s
legal protection and status were vested
in her father, but after marriage, her
legal status “disappeared”.
Women in the Regency were acting against
normal gender expectations. They did not
have a lot of substantial rights in that
period. Furthermore, women spend their
lives gaining accomplishments to be
marriable, and without wealth and good
establishment they are less likely to do so.
Also, they were only allowed to go outside
when there was an event and only with
chaperones.

4. MEN IN REGENCY
The jobs that men had at the time were often
barristers, soldiers, workers of the government,
farmers, shopkeepers, miners, vicars, or
servants. A gentleman was expected to marry
to improve his position. Divorce was not
allowed and if it happened it would be a shame
for the man but especially for the woman.
Men in Regency had a lot of rights compared
with women. They chose their wives based
on how much money they had. They had a
lot of acquaintances and usually they were all
meeting up to coffee houses. They were
considered as gentlemen and would always
dress up formally.

6. Women and men in regency
The Regency time period was an era of great wealth. Both men and women
worked vigorously to become part of the upper class. Marrying for upper class
women was the only way to gain a source of income. Women would even
change their way of life to be able to marry into wealth.
A truth universally acknowledged, was that a single main in possession of a
good fortune, must be in want of a wife. In the Regency time period, wealth
played a huge role in both men and women’s lives.
