This document contains verses from the Quran discussing various theological concepts:
1) It establishes the authority of God/Allah as the creator and regulator of the universe, earth, day/night cycle, and all living things.
2) It references signs and proofs in nature for those who reflect, including mountains, rivers, varied plants, and seasonal changes.
3) It warns those who deny God/Allah of punishment in the afterlife, while promising rewards for the righteous who are patient and charitable and remember God.
What does “Islam” mean?
The word الإسلام [Islam] is an infinitive word derived from س ل م [silm] root in if‘al pattern and used as noun and infinitive. The word silm means “release/keeping away; and to be distant from fear, doubt, trouble, lack of peace, unhappiness, fight, war, pain, suffering, material and spiritual inconveniences, weakness and decaying, and all the negativities.” This word is also the root of salim, selam, teslim, Islam etc. The word’s “Islam” form means “strengthening” [removal from problems, worries, fear, unhappiness, fights, wars, and similar negative things]. Hence, the religion Islam means the “the religion that strengthens humans [entire range of principles that protects and secures people by putting a distance between them and problems, worries, war, weakness, spiritual illness, unhappiness, and similar things].”

The Meaning of the Qur'an is a fresh English rendering of Tafhim-ul-Qur’an, Maulana Syed Abu Ala Moududi’s monumental and masterly Urdu translation of the Qur’an and a selection of his commentary. The translator has undertaken the delicate and difficult task of rendering this work in English under the guidance of the Maulana himself. Here is a work with a difference, by a dedicated scholar of an entirely different sort. An immense wealth of profound understanding of the Qur’an is here, a vast treasure of knowledge and deep insight, and a valuable exposition of some social, political, economic and legal teachings of the Qur’an.
This comprehensive Tafsir answers contemporary questions, and makes the Qur’an fully relevant to the concerns of day, yet it loses nothing of its timelessness nor sacrifices any of the traditional understanding. It demonstrates the unity and coherence of the Qur’an by centring everything on its message, like gems hung on a single string.
This Tafsir is particularly suitable for Muslims with no direct access to the Arabic original.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

1. THUNDER (ar-Ra'd)
By the reality of The One To Serve/Allah The Beneficient The Ever Giving.
1. Comprehensive (Alif, Lam, Meem, Ra). These are the verses of the
Scripture. What is revealed to you from your Regulator is the truth, but
most people are not convinced.
2. The One To Serve/Allah is The One who raised the universe without
pillars that you can see, and then established the trellis. And The One
regulated the sun and the moon, each running for a specified period
uninterrupted. The One manages all affairs, and The One explains the
evidences, that you may be certain of the meeting with your Regulator.
Ayn-Ra-Shiin = to construct/build, make trellis (for grape-wine), make a vine-stalk, roof, raise (a house or structure), settle. 'arshun - throne, arbour, pavillion,
roof, power, dominion, sovereignty.
3. And it is The One who spread the earth, and placed on it mountains and
rivers, of every kind of fruit The One made a pair of two. The One causes
the night to overlap the day. In that are evidences for people who reflect.
4. On earth are adjacent terrains, and gardens of vines, and crops, and date-
palms, from the same root or from distinct roots, irrigated with the same
water. The One make some taste better than others. In that are proofs
for people who are logical.
5. Should you wonder—the real wonder is their saying: “When we have
become dust, will we be in a new creation?” Those are they who defied
2. their Regulator. Those are they who will have yokes around their necks.
Those are the inhabitants of the Fire, where they will remain.
6. And they urge you to hasten evil before good, though examples have
passed away before them. Your Regulator is full of forgiveness towards
the people for their wrongdoings, yet your Regulator is severe in
retribution.
7. Those who not convinced say, “Why was an indicator not sent down to
him from his Regulator?” You are only a warner, and to every community
is an envoy.
8. The One To Serve/Allah knows what every female bears, and every
increase and decrease of the wombs. With The One, everything is by
measure.
9. The Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, the Grand, the Supreme.
10. It is the same; whether one of you conceals his speech, or declares it;
whether he goes into hiding by night, or goes out by day.
11. Everyone has companion, before him and behind him, protecting him by
The One To Serve/Allah’s command. The One To Serve/Allah does not
change the condition of a people until they change what is within
themselves. And if The One To Serve/Allah accords any hardship for a
people, there is no turning it back, and apart from The One they have no
protector.
3. 12. It is The One who shows you the lightening, causing fear and hope. And
The One produces the heavy clouds.
13. Performs the thunder in appreciation of The One, and so do the Powerful
Agents, in awe of The One. And The One sends the thunderbolts, striking
with them whomever The One accords. Yet they argue about The One
To Serve/Allah, while The One is Tremendous in might.
14. To The One belongs the supplication of the truth. Those they call upon
besides The One do not respond to them with anything—except as
someone who stretches his hands towards water, so that it may reach his
mouth, but it does not reach it. The supplication of the deniers are only
in vain.
15. To The One To Serve/Allah submit everyone in the universe and the
earth, willingly or unwillingly, as do their shadows, in the morning and in
the evening.
16. Say, “Which is the Regulator of the universe and the earth?” Say, “The
One To Serve/Allah.” Say, “Have you taken besides The One protectors,
who have no power to profit or harm even themselves?” Say, “Are the
blind and the seeing equal? Or is darkness and light equal? Or have they
assigned to The One To Serve/Allah associates, who created the likes of
The One’s creation, so that the creations seemed to them alike? Say, “The
One To Serve/Allah is the Creator of all things, and The One is The One
To Serve/Allah, the Irresistible.”
4. 17. The One sends down water from the sky, and riverbeds flow according
to their capacity. The current carries swelling froth. And from what they
heat in fire of ornaments or utensils comes a similar froth. Thus The One
To Serve/Allah exemplifies truth and falsehood. As for the froth, it is
swept away, but what benefits the people remains in the ground. Thus
The One To Serve/Allah presents the analogies.
18. For those who respond to their Regulator is the best. But as for those
who do not respond to The One, even if they possessed everything on
earth, and twice as much, they could not redeem themselves with it.
Those will have the worst reckoning; and their home is Hell—a miserable
destination.
19. Is he who knows that what was revealed to you from your Regulator is
the truth, like he who is blind? Only those who reason will remember.
20. Those who fulfill the promise to The One To Serve/Allah, and do not
violate the agreement.
21. And those who join what The One To Serve/Allah has commanded to be
joined, and fear their Regulator, and dread the dire reckoning.
22. And those who patiently seek the presence of their Regulator, and carry
out review/discussion regularly, and spend from The One’s provisions to
them, secretly and openly, and repel evil with good. These will have the
Ultimate Home.
5. 23. Everlasting Gardens, which they will enter, along with the honest among
their parents, and their spouses, and their descendants. And the Powerful
Agents will enter upon them from every mode.
The Powerful Agents? -what are they?
Who are they? -this PA in the ultimate Garden
-have no clues now
-My Regulator, grant me knowledge
-so that I may understand
24. Peace be upon you, because you endured patiently. How excellent is the
final home.
25. As for those who violate the promise to The One To Serve/Allah, after
pledging to keep it, and sever what The One To Serve/Allah has
commanded to be joined, and spread corruption on earth—these, the
curse will be upon them, and they will have the Worst Home.
26. The One To Serve/Allah dispenses the provisions to whomever The One
accords, and restricts. And they delight in the worldly life; yet the worldly
life, compared to the Hereafter, is only enjoyment.
27. Those who are not convinced say, “If only an indicator was sent down to
him from his Regulator.” Say, “The One To Serve/Allah let go astray
whomever The One accords, and The One guides to The One’s self
whoever returns.”
28. Those who are convinced, and whose hearts find comfort in the
remembrance of The One To Serve/Allah. Surely, it is in the remembrance
of The One To Serve/Allah that hearts find comfort.”
6. 29. For those who are convinced and do honest deeds—for them are
happiness and a beautiful return.
30. Thus The One have sent you among a community before which other
communities have passed away, that you may recite to them what The
One revealed to you. Yet they deny the Benevolent One. Say, “The One
is my Regulator; there is nothing to serve but The One; in The One I trust,
and to The One is my return.”
31. Even if there was a Reading/Quran, by which mountains could be set in
motion, by which the earth could be shattered, or by which the dead
could be made to speak. No, in fact, every decision rests with The One
To Serve/Allah. Do not know those who are convinced that had The One
To Serve/Allah accords, The One would have guided all humanity?
Disasters will continue to strike those who are not convinced, because of
their deeds, or they fall near their homes, until The One To Serve/Allah’s
promise comes true. The One To Serve/Allah never breaks a promise.
32. Messengers before you were ridiculed, but I granted those not convinced
respite, and then I seized them. What a punishment it was.
33. Is The One who is watchful over the deeds of every soul? Yet they ascribe
associates to The One To Serve/Allah. Say, “Name them. Or are you
informing The One of something on earth The One does not know, or is
it a show of words?” In fact, the scheming of those who are not convinced
is made to appear good to them, and they are averted from the path.
Whomever The One To Serve/Allah misguides has no guide.
7. 34. There is for them torment in the worldly life, but the torment of the
Hereafter is harsher. And they have no defender against The One To
Serve/Allah.
35. The likeness of the Garden promised to the honest: rivers flowing
beneath it; its food is perpetual, and so is its shade. Such is the sequel
for those who guard against evil, but the sequel of those deniers is the
Fire.
36. Those to whom The One gave the Scripture rejoice in what was revealed
to you, while some factions reject parts of it. Say, “I am commanded to
serve The One To Serve/Allah, and to never associate anything with The
One. To The One I invite, and to The One is my return.”
37. Thus The One revealed it as code of law in eloquent/Arabic. Were you to
follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would
have neither ally nor defender against The One To Serve/Allah.
38. The One sent messengers before you, and The One assigned for them
wives and offspring. No messenger could bring an indicator except with
the permission of The One To Serve/Allah. For every era is a scripture.
39. The One To Serve/Allah abolishes whatever The One accords, and The
One affirms. With The One is the source of the Scripture.
8. 40. Whether The One show you some of what The One have promised them,
or The One cause you to die—your duty is to inform, and The One’s is
the reckoning.
41. Do they not see how The One deals with the earth, diminishing it at its
edges? The One To Serve/Allah judges; and nothing can hold back The
One’s judgment. And The One’s is quick to settle accounts.
42. Those before them planned, but the entire plan is up to The One To
Serve/Allah. The One knows what every soul earns. Those who are not
convinced will know to whom the Ultimate Home is.
43. Those deniers say, “You are not a messenger.” Say, “The One To
Serve/Allah is a sufficient witness between me and you, and whoever has
knowledge of the Scripture.”
