I have only read the ending of this text book, and so far I feel like I have grown as a
future teacher leader. There are so many aspects that I have never considered until now, and I am
looking forward to gaining more knowledge on the subject. For example, human capital is way
more valuable than expensive technology or programs. Although technology and interventions
are important, the people who teach them are more influential. In my opinion, teaching is the
most successful and rewarding lifestyle. For individuals such as myself, being a teacher is not a
job opportunity, but a dream. Very similar to our peers who always wanted to become
professional athletes or rock stars.
I have also discovered that happy and positive teachers are the most effective for
students. Even though our college careers are going to end in just a few short months we still
must expect our learning to continue. Even working at the after school program I continue to
grow professionally, and gain just as much knowledge as I share with my students. Not only has
the first hand experience influenced me, but observing the teachers around me has shaped my
vision for the future. I have the opportunity to witness teacher leaders every single day.
Meetings are often held every night after school where teachers gather and share ideas.
Collaboration does not only take place during the school day, but afterwards as well.
Teacher leaders are not only the students’ heroes, but the vision of our nation’s future.
Students are watching us every single day, and the most we can do is set the foundations for an
influential and positive role model. As future teachers we must show our students how much fun
learning can become when given the right tools. Setting high expectations and portraying a
positive attitude will not only benefit oneself, but the people surrounding this particular
individual.
