Final Supervisor Evaluation Summer 2016
As our internship season comes to a close, I offer the following evaluation of Decker
Kevwitch. I'll start by saying the program Decker was selected into is one of the most
challenging ways a student can choose to spend their summer. Of the students who began the
internship, Decker finished in the top 10% in all measurable categories. He excelled in sales,
communication, customer service, time management, and most importantly, leadership
development.
From the moment he was selected, Decker put 100% effort into immersing himself in the
program and learning all he could. He quickly became a leader in our organization and was
often looked at as a source of knowledge for the students who did not catch on as quickly as he
had.
The job gave Decker a platform to enhance skills he had been developing while in
college, and gave him an opportunity to test those skills in a real-world environment. His
communication skills were tested daily as he was required to conduct professional sales
conversations with 20-40 prospects each day. He was responsible for ensuring those prospects
were fully knowledgable about the products and services NorthStar would be providing. Once a
prospect became a NorthStar customer, Decker took on the responsibility of being their contact
in case of any further questions about the product. NorthStar has a customer service department,
but Decker made sure his clients were treated like family.
Beyond those skills, I truly believe one of the biggest things I saw change in Decker over
the course of the summer was his ability to control his emotions, identify when he was making
an excuse, and ultimately gain more Emotional Intelligence. From the conversations I've had
with him, I learned that as a young man he was forced to grow up due to things that were out of
his control. This summer I saw Decker choose to grow up and really become a powerful young
man.
There are great things ahead for Decker, it was a pleasure having him as an intern. He
epitomizes what we look for in students coming into the program, and left with all of the skills
and experience we strive to impart on our interns.
