Scott worked as a lifeguard at Riverdale Outdoor Pool this summer. He led by example through his reliability and punctuality. Scott recognized his important role in promoting safety and serving as a role model for disadvantaged children. At the start of summer, many of these kids misbehaved and were asked to leave daily, but Scott helped the other lifeguards understand the kids needed structure. By the end of summer, the kids' behavior improved and some began promoting safety themselves due to Scott's influence and dedication to building relationships with them. Scott also helped newer lifeguards understand the true meaning of being a lifeguard goes beyond basic job duties.

It has been a pleasure to have Scott as a lifeguard at Riverdale Outdoor Pool this summer.
Among his fellow lifeguards, he led by example through his willingness to work along with his
reliability and punctuality.
Scott recognized that lifeguards do more than just promote safety, and that he had an
important role in the community as a public servant. The pool is an attraction for all children,
but during the summer it especially serves as a free daycare for kids whose parents cannot
afford to keep their children occupied during the day. Over the summer, he built relationships
with several of these disadvantaged teenagers and clearly had a positive influence on their life.
At the start of the summer, the negative behaviour of many of these kids resulted in them
being asked to leave the facility every other day. Scott became vocal among the staff, asking
the other lifeguards to recognize the fact that these kids were simply causing trouble because
they were bored and needed more structure in their summer. His communication skills and his
dedication to the job became apparent later in the summer, as these kids became much more
respectful and even began to promote safety and good behaviour among other patrons. Scott’s
influence on these children is undeniable. These young adults were desperate for a role model,
and Scott cared enough to take on the extra work of going swimming with them on his lunch
breaks and always making time for them during his shifts.
Several of the guards on staff are working as a lifeguard for the first time, and I am very happy
that Scott has shown them the true meaning of the job. Too many people (the public and the
lifeguards themselves) have the wrong opinion about lifeguarding. Scott realized that there is
much more to the job than the rudimental demands of his employers, which is why I was more
than happy to write this letter of recommendation.
Sincerely,
