Teacher at Acland Burghley School
Stefan achieved good GCSE results and joined Acland Burghley to continue his A level
studies. Acland Burghley (art of La swap Sixth Form Consortium) is an inner-city
comprehensive set in a socially and culturally diverse part of Camden; more than 50% of
sixth form students are in receipt of the Bursary. Stefan’s approach to A levels has been
exemplary. Stefan is of Mediterranean background, from a family without a tradition of
Higher education. Stefan’s approach to A levels has been excellent.
Stefan is predicted and A for Media BTEC. He has undertaken an in depth investigation into
Film and Video Editing and has demonstrated a superb ability to apply a range of editing
techniques including continuity editing, montage and the use of transitions. He has
developed his knowledge of Movie 11 and Adobe Premiere CS6. Stefan can work fully
independently and works extremely well in a team. He has developed an excellent range of
skills operating a DSLR video camera and can apply rules of framing and composition with a
high level degree of skill. Stefan has made an extremely successful music video including
comprehensive research and pre-production documentation that shows a high level of
proficiency in Media Production. Moreover, he has selflessly given up his time to create
various films for the schools website including promotion videos for the Autistic base and
various events such as screening and the dance show. An exemplar student.
Stefan is a focused and conscientious student who readily grasps new film concepts. He has
already displayed both creativity and analytical skills in a variety of tasks since the start
of the course. In particular, he has produced pieces of analytical and theoretical writing,
demonstrating an excellent knowledge of cinematography. Stefan is also currently
developing his research skills and has shown that he can select, reject and present materials
appropriately. Stefan has shown excellent understanding of film theories, including how
micro-elements are used to create meaning for audiences, and he is able to apply his
knowledge independently to a range of media texts. His work is organised and he has
proved that he can manage his time effectively, meeting deadlines on all occasions with
work that is of a very good standard. His writing in particular has developed in terms of
structure and organization. It is always appropriate to the task and has become more
analytical. Stefan works well both independently and in small groups. He is a thoughtful
student who thinks carefully about his contributions to lessons and has the determination to
meet deadlines.
Stefan is an intelligent young man who is a pleasure to teach and tutor. He is hard working
and has the ambition to succeed academically. He has clear goals to pursue a career in the
media industry and his efforts to secure a relevant work experience at ITV has enriched his
knowledge in media editing. I strongly recommend Stefan as excellent candidate for a media
related higher education course.
