4. Malachi 2:15 “. . . Yet had he the residue of the spirit. . . .That he might seek a
godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, . . . “
Psalms 139: 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in
my mother's womb.
Ps 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous
are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Ps 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret,
and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Ps 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy
book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when
as yet there was none of them.
Col 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image
of him that created him
LIFE HAS A BEGINNING - - EVERY INDIVIDUAL HAS INBORN SPECIAL TRAITS
5. PROVERBS 22: 6
“Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not
depart from it.”
TRAIN UP: “TO DEDICATE” “TO CONCENTRATE”
IN THE WAY HE SHOULD GO: “IN ACCORDANCE WITH HIS WAY” OR “UPON
THE MOUTH OF HIS WAY”
“WAY” REFERS TO A CHARACTERISTIC MANNER: WE ARE TO TRAIN A
CHILD ACCORDING TO HIS OR HER CHARACTERISTIC MANNER – ARTISTIC,
ATHLETIC, ACADEMIC WHETHER THEY BE STRONG-WILLED, COMPLIANT
OR ADVENTUROUS – WE ARE TO DIRECT THEM.
“WE RECEIVE EACH CHILD FROM THE HAND OF GOD, NOT AS A
MALLEABLE LUMP OF CLAY TO BE MOLDED IN WHATEVER WAY WE SEE
FIT, BUT AS A UNIQUE, DISTINCTIVE PERSON WITH A DESTINY. WE ARE TO
HONOR GOD’S CREATION OF HIS ONE-OF-A-KIND INDIVIDUAL BY
ADAPTING OUR TRAINING TO HIS OR HER CHARACTERISTIC MANNER.”
I SAY TO FIGHT FOR THE CHILD IS TO SUPPORT GOD’S CREATION.
6. Procrustes (proh-KRUS-teez)
Procrustes was a host who
adjusted his guests to fit their
bed. In Greek the word procrustes
means "he who stretches“. He
kept a house by the side of the road where he offered
hospitality to passing strangers. They were invited in for a
pleasant meal and a night's rest in his very special bed (the
Procrustean Bed). Procrustes described it as having the
unique property that its length exactly matched whoever lay
down upon it. What Procrustes didn't volunteer was the
method by which this "one-size-fits-all" was achieved. As
soon as the guest lay down Procrustes went to work upon
him, stretching him on the rack if he was too short for the
bed and chopping off his legs if he was too long.
7. Procrusteanism
1: of, relating to, or typical of Procrustes
2: marked by arbitrary often ruthless disregard of
individual differences or special circumstances

THE WORLD SAYS:
I believe that everybody should think the way I
think, believe the way I believe, and behave the
way I behave. If you don’t fit my mold then I will
try to convince, coerce, manipulate, or do
anything else I can to get everyone to conform to
what I think is correct.
8. The Building Blocks
GOD-CREATED
“TEMPERAMENT”
(INBORN)
MAN/ENVIRONMENT AFFECTED
“CHARACTER”
(LEARNED BEHAVIOR)
SELF-SELECTED
“PERSONALITY”
(MASK)
When we are
conceived our unique
temperament is
placed within us by
the order of God.
At birth, we begin interacting
with our environment and our
environment interacts with us.
This interaction slightly molds
and alters our temperament,
thereby forming character.
Our personality is self-selected, and is
expressed in the way we perceive
how we must behave to survive in the
world in which we live. This may or
may not be part of our temperament
or character.
9. Created in God’s Image
Creation Theory
–helps us understand how God created
us as individuals
–helps us understand who we are and
why we do what we do
–provides reasons for our behavior, not
excuses for our behavior
10. Creation Theory deals with an
Individual’s Temperament.
• Temperament is the God-given, inborn
nature of each person determining how he
or she interacts and reacts with people,
circumstances, environments, situations,
and the world.
• Temperament is who we are on the inside,
what the Bible calls “the inner being”.
11. Temperament
The understanding of temperament gives us
a special knowledge of the inner workings of
ourselves and others. It helps identify the
pressures we, as humans, feel which are
resulting from:
The world in which we live.
Our weaknesses or desires.
12. Temperament
The understanding also helps us develop a
stronger relationship with God by showing us
how to let God work in our lives and how to
interact with God in ways that are beneficial
to us.
As we submit to the Holy Spirit we can then
be renewed in our thought processes.
13. Temperament
Temperament is a determining factor in:
• Unity development of teamwork
• How we take on responsibilities and make
decisions.
• How dependent or independent we are.
• Our spiritual development.
14. Five Pure Temperament Types
• Melancholy
• Choleric
• Sanguine
• Supine
• Phlegmatic
There are blends of temperament and these can be
detected with a 54 question APS (Arno Profile System)
analysis - - I will be able to help you with an APS report
15. Three areas of Interpersonal Needs
• Inclusion – Indicates the Temperament Needs
for Social Interaction, Surface Relationships, and
Intellectual Energies.
• Control – Indicates Decision Making Abilities,
Willingness to take on Responsibilities, and the
Need for Independence.
• Affection – Indicates the Need for Love and

Editor's Notes
One of the things that Temperament determines is how much love and affection we need. For example, some babies are born with the need for very little stroking and holding. That need is placed within them by God. The character of others is formed in an environment where the parents hold and stroke them. These children will want to be stroked and held slightly more than their temperament shows. This increased need was place within them by their parents, or, as we say, it is man/environment affected. If at some point in the child’s life, he/she attempts to hold or stroke another person and is rejected, he/she will pull back and refrain from expressing love. The need to behave like this is self-selected and is called personality.
There is one major problem with personality. It is a mask. We wear for the world and it cannot be worn very long. Eventually the person must revert back to temperament and character (for actions and reactions of behavior). This explains whey a person acts differently at home than they do in public.
In order to understand others, we must gain insight into the God-created part of their behavior which is their temperament.
