Companies have been forced to become leaner and more efficient, and are facing
enormous pressures to control and predict outside costs, including legal fees.
We have more than 40 carefully selected Reed Smith Staff Lawyers who offer certain
types of advice at a low cost. These Staff Lawyers can dramatically reduce your
costs whilst maintaining high quality, and allow us to offer creative alternative fee
arrangements. Our supervised Staff Lawyers are involved in a variety of projects,
from consumer lending disputes and responding to government investigations to
handling property disputes and tax assessment appeals.

We have invested in a specialist in-house pricing team that helps design and implement
bespoke pricing structures which suit individual clients. The key to creating a successful
pricing arrangement is understanding your needs.
Approximately 30% of Reed Smith’s current matters involve alternative fees or
value-based pricing arrangements.

actually does. We apply a disciplined approach to budgeting and work plan
development, and a commitment to actively monitoring and managing each of
your matters using real-time financial reporting, using cutting-edge technology.
At the outset of each matter, you will receive a detailed budget and matter work plan,
or process map. We will then measure budget and work plan performance down to the
task level on a real-time basis.
Our extranet, ouRSite, delivers a state-of-the art case-management system that allows
access to any document, billing information and other matter-related information.
You will be able to drill down and access work products, and instantly assess the status
of a matter enabling you to determine how we are progressing against budget.

To strike the optimal balance between costs and quality, we work with lower-cost service
providers to assist with document collection, review and production, as well as on due
diligence and contract reviews.
Throughout the course of an
engagement, we can monitor
the hours it takes to perform
certain tasks, the percentage
of completed work, timekeeper
staffing levels and other
valuable metrics. Any issues
can be addressed proactively
and immediate action can

Our “curriculum” of technical legal training can be tailored to suit your team’s needs.
We can also arrange access to a wide variety of online technical legal learning
to enable your teams to revise or enhance their knowledge in core areas.
Our training includes much sought after “soft skills” as well as legal technical seminars
at no cost and thereby saving you a significant amount of money in training costs.
Before our UK graduates join us, they complete an enhanced Legal Practice Course
which requires them to work on a real-life commercial project for our clients.
This means we can can offer you a graduate team as a valuable free resource,
deployed to research issues and provide business analysis you may not otherwise
have the capacity to undertake.
This is a unique offering exclusively offered by Reed Smith.
In association with Cambridge University Executive Education, we have created
