Reduced Sound Tolerance describes an atypical experience of discomfort to sound exposure and includes three main types: Hyperacusis which is discomfort to normal or loud sounds in those with normal or reduced hearing; Misophonia which is a strong dislike of certain sounds; and Recruitment which is discomfort to loud sounds due to reduced hearing dynamic range. Treatment may include amplification, sound avoidance, sound generators, and retraining therapies.
