The document discusses recycling and where garbage goes after it is thrown away. It asks the reader if they throw away paper after homework and toys they no longer play with. All trash is taken to landfills by garbage trucks. New vocabulary words are introduced like environment, landfill, pollution, conserve, waste, and the three R's which are reduce, reuse, and recycle. The document encourages recycling to help make the environment cleaner and healthier by putting trash to good use instead of just throwing it away.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. I have a question for you…
Have you ever thought about
where your homework paper
goes when you are finished
with the assignment?
Do you simply throw that paper
away?
9. What does this mean?
We can use the three R’s to help do
our part in making the Earth a cleaner
and healthier environment to live in.

11. Remember…
Just because you throw something away
doesn't mean it has gone.
You have just moved whatever it is you’ve
thrown away!
So put it to good use, recycle it instead!

Editor's Notes
Title Slide
After the question, we would brainstorm answers.
Vocabulary slideEnvironment – all surroundings on EarthNatural Resources – something that is found in nature and can be used by people (examples: light, air, water, plants, and animals)Landfill – where all of our garbage/waste is takenPollution – when the environment has been made dirty by garbage, chemicals, and other things
More VocabularyPollution – when the environment has been made dirty by garbage, chemicals, and other thingsConserve – using less natural resources such, as water and electricity, and materials, such as plastic and paper, and rebuilding the environment by planting new trees, plants, and flowersWaste – materials that have been thrown away
The Three R’sReduce – to make smaller (point out how the arrows are pointing inward)Reuse – to use again in a different way (point out the continuous circle)Recycle – way to reduce the amount of garbage that is thrown away and reuse materials (point out the “Recycle” symbol)
We need to REDUCE the amount of waste in landfills and pollution we leave behind by REUSING the materials we can and RECYCLE the other materials left.(Play YouTube video on the three R’s in the hyperlink)
(Handout for students to use as a reference)This handout tells us what we can recycle and we need to do to get the materials recyclable. There are four categories of materials: Plastic, Glass, Paper, and Cans. All of the materials need to be clean and free of food and food stains with caps and lids off. There some other exceptions that are found on the handout.
I will have the students turn over the “What is Recyclable?” handout and write down the important information found in the PSA so that it may also be used as a reference when needed.
