NOCIÓ DE VITRIFICACIÓ
La vitrificació consisteix en inserir el
contaminant (normalment un òxid) en la xarxa
atòmica d’un silicat amorf, per lo general
complex. Si el procés està ben fet, el
contaminant no podrà sortir de la matriu:
• Ni per impacte mecànic (abrasió)
• Ni per agressió química (lixiviació)

2. QUE ES POT VITRIFICAR?
La vitrificació es una tecnologia concebuda per el
tractament de matèria inorgànica, preferentment:
• En forma d'òxids.
• Sense humitat.
• Quan menys carbonats millor.
La taula següent reflexa la capacitat de
vitrificació en funció de la tecnologia.

I LA SEVA PRESENCIA EN LES
CENDRES
Òxids formadors de vidre, o de reticle, tipus RO2 (Si,
B, P,..).
Òxids modificadors del reticle, que ocupen els
intersticis de la xarxa principal, por això també es
coneixen com a modificadors del reticle atès que
afebleixen els enllaços. Son del tipus RO (Na, K, Ca,
Mg, Pb, Zn, etc.)
Òxids estabilitzadors de xarxa. Ajuden a evitar la
desvitrificació.

3. CARACTERITZACIÓ GENERALS
DE CENDRES D’INCINERADORA
La taula següent mostra a la primera columna
l'anàlisi típic d’una cendra volant d’incineradora
de RSU.
La segona columna representa el mateix valor
expressat en mols.
La darrera columna indica que, per si soles i
d’acord amb la formula de Seger, aquesta
matèria no vitrificaria.

EL PROCÉS DE VITRIFICACIÓ
La taula mostra la gran discrepància en les
temperatures de punts de fusió dels principals
ingredients de les cendres d’incineradora.
Això te com a conseqüència l'emissió de material
particulat.

4. PRINCIPI DE FUNCIONAMENT
D’UN VITRIFICADOR OBERT
El material es va escalfant per l’acció del
cremador principal. A la sortida un cremador
auxiliar permet mantenir un valor baix de la
viscositat.
Un problema insalvable es els diferents punts de
fusió dels components de les matèries primeres.
Des del punt de vista ambiental els gasos han de
ser tractats. Com a mínim, sempre contenen
material particulat.

INSTALACIÓ DE VITRIFICACIÓ
La matèria primera entra en el forn (a una
temperatura que oscil·la entre 1.300 y 1.500ºC).
La calor li arriba per radiació. Un cremador
auxiliar permet la colada.
En els forns de vidre, el material s’extrau en
forma de làmina o de cilindre.
En els forns de vitrificar, el vidre cau,
habitualment, sobre aigua (fritat).

5. PRINCIPI DE FUNCIONAMENT

El material entra per la part superior de la volta i
la pròpia capa de matèria primera fa de “tapa”.
Quan el bany assoleix certa fluïdesa es fa
conductor.

6. ASPECTE I APLICACIONS DEL
MATERIAL VITRIFICAT
La forma final del vitrificat dependrà de la
manera en que s’hagi fet el refredament:

VITRIFICACIÓ DE FANGS D’EDAR
Els fangs d’EDAR, amb freqüència tenen vora
del 40% de matèria inorgànica.
La caracterització de la fracció residual, desprès
d’incinerar o gasificar es compatible amb els
òxids vitrificadors.
Es pot fer grava i/o paviment.

7. ACABAT SUPERFICIAL DE
RAJOLES.
La foto mostra diversos colors aplicats sobre
rajoles vitrificades.
Es possible canviar:
• Els colors superficials.
• Les textures.
• Les característiques finals.

La foto mostra una sèrie de rajoles vitrificades
amb pols d'arsènic (metall molt volàtil).
El vitrificat es pot colorejar en massa i/o aplicar-
hi un acabat superficial.

8. RAJOLES FABRICADES AMB
CENDRES D’INCINERADORA
La foto mostra un azulejo fabricat integrament
amb residus.
Per el tipus de residus usats, la porositat del
azulejo es elevada i pot representar un
inconvenient per a determinades aplicacions.
La solució consisteix en aplicar una capa de
polímer (que sinteritza a 200 ºC). La textura,
aspecte i prestacions son iguales a las de un
azulejo esmaltat.
CONCLUSIONS
La tecnologia de la vitrificació, sempre
que es dugui a terme amb els
corresponents coneixements, es la forma
mes segura d’inertitzar i, també de
valoritzar residus perillosos.
Hi ha dos tecnologies bàsiques:
• El sistema obert i el tancat. Aquest
darrer permet l’inclusió de limitades
quantitats d'halògens i matèria orgànica i
no hi han emissions.
• El consum energètic d'ambdós és
semblant, de l’ordre de 1 kW·h/kg de
material vitrificat
