Penny Wilkinson has considered various health and safety risks for her upcoming photo shoot. If shooting indoors, she will clear any loose cables or inform models to be careful. When shooting outdoors, she will be careful crossing roads and not holding up traffic. For outdoor shoots on grass, she will look for flat surfaces to minimize risks of tripping. She will also check for hazards in photography studios before shoots. Penny has planned shoots for certain times of day and weather conditions to achieve the desired lighting and atmosphere for her different projects. She will book time in photography rooms as needed and has backup plans in case of issues with models or equipment.

2. Are there any potential hazards that could pose a
health and safety risks where your photo shoot will
take place ( trailing cables/traffic/other objects)?
If I decide to do a photoshoot indoors in a studio I will have to clear up any loose cables, if I can
not move them because they are attached to lights I will inform my models to be careful around
them. I have been taking some photos outside, when traveling to the destination we will have to
be careful crossing roads and not holding up traffic. I will be taking some more shots in the
college campus like on the grass and in class rooms. Uneven surfaces on the grass will be
dangerous incase some one falls or trips up.
3. What will you do to ensure these risks
are minimized?
Take a look around my surrounding check in the photography studio for any loose cables our
lights that aren’t set up properly to prevent them from falling or anyone tripping. If we are out
side on grass look for a flat surface and walk carefully towards it.
4. Will the time of day/weather affect the outcome
of the photos? Have you allowed for this?
I will want my photos taken at around 12 to 2 o'clock best light and the sun is at its highest, when
taking my first lot of photos I didn't’t want the sun to be beaming down I wanted it to look dull
because the film is meant to be a drama so bright sunny weather would not go well with that
tone. However, I will need a variety of photos for my magazine my 2nd lot of photos I want to
capture bright sun/ sunny weather not beaming down but bright, clear skis a happy atmosphere
this movies genre will be teen chick flick so it contrasts the other images. If the weather is bad on
that day we will take more photos for the drama so we aren’t wasting a day.
5. Have you considered the back ground to your photos,
particularly if taken out side? How will you ensure you
will get the background you want?
I have considered this. I want my main images to be at the beach so the background will mainly
be the sea and rocks and sand. I will blur the background out on the day if it doesn’t look right
using selective focus. If people walk past in the background and this is unwanted I will wait till
they have pasted and continue the photoshoot.
6. Have you considered lighting? What about the “problems” of natural
lighting, either outside, or streaming through a window? Will you need
to use a flash? Have you considered reflective objects that might spoil
the effect?
The main problem with natural lighting is it maybe too bright and ruin the image either it covers
all the models face where it is unable to be seen, if they where glasses which mine do, will the sun
reflect off them and look unprofessional. I took the main images on a cloudy day so the sun was
no an issue as for the second lot of images I want the weather to be nice. I may have to use flash if
the sun reflects of the models glasses. I plan on having them facing away or slightly angled from
the sun so it does not interfere with the image out come.
7. Do you need permission to take photos in the
place/ venue you have in mind?
I will not need permission to take any of the outside photos because I already have consent from
the models and will not be going in any restricted areas to the public. If I wish to use the
photography studio I will have to ask the photography department if I can book in a time slot to
use the studios.
8. Do you need to book time in a room?
◦ I will need to book a time, it will have to be on a lunch time from 12-1 as everyone is out of
lessons and all my models can attend this any later and we will be in lessons, I could go after
college but they might be too busy.
9. Are other people/crowds likely to be an issue for
you? What have you done to ensure that it will
not spoil the effect?
◦ Crowds will not be an issue as college out side doesn’t get that crowded there are people
walking around be I want that so it looks like the movie is set in a real college. We went to the
beach on quite a cloudy day so there were not maybe people there we also went quite far out
the way as well so we didn’t bump into many people.
10. Are you reliant on lifts/props/equipment/models? How
have you planned that there things will come together
at the appointed time? Plan B?
To make sure all the models are there we plan a day out so we aren’t just going out for a photo
shoot we may also be doing something else like seeing a movie or getting food so they don’t feel
like it’s a waste of time only coming out for an hour. I don’t need many props just every day
college student things: phones and college bags. If there is a lack of models then my Plan B would
to do a different photoshoot change the scenes up or even the theme so I can get some work
done instead of just going home.
11. Finally, Have you thought of every
eventuality…?
I have made times and dates very clear to my models I have organized it during college time so
they will all be in and we don’t have to travel far, I have integrated it in to days out so we can
enjoy the full day out as well.
