• Go to college, get good grades, do well?

• Selling you the cute version of college and you buying into is a disservice because that
implies perfection which none of us are

• No mommy, no daddy, no grandparents, or anyone else (they cant save you or hold your hand
anymore)
• Consequences
• Hard work

6. LEAVE NOW….YES I REALLY SAID THAT
• Why?
• Because this is adult 101
• Why?
• Because LEAP is teaching you more than academic skills it is teaching life skills. If
you do not acquire these skills adulting will be very hard.
• If you do not learn something from LEAP that changes you for the better you may
as leave now instead of wasting anymore time. (REALITY CHECK-YOU WONT
MAKE IT IN THE FALL)
• College is a choice and you have a lot of decisions to make. NO ONE else can
make these decisions for you and you are responsible for the outcome.

• There will be people (professors, staff, students) who see you as stereotype
• You decide whether or not you are
• Being in LEAP doesn’t have to mean something negative
• Your success defines the program
• WHY?
• Because you are the author of your own story
• The only person that can define you is yourself

• Because if you have not figured out why you are here you will need to figure it out soon
• College is not a joke and messing up will cost and you will have no one to blame but yourself
• Learning these skills now will help you save you a headache in the future
• We care but most importantly I care about each of you
• You represent not only yourselves but this program and your instructors
• My expectation of you are high because I believe you can achieve them and I expect nothing less
