This document outlines techniques for instructing reading through three phases: before, during, and after reading. The before reading phase activates prior knowledge by introducing the topic, predicting content, discussing vocabulary. The during reading phase has students silently read while doing comprehension activities. The after reading phase has students summarize, debate, or write about the text to demonstrate understanding.

4. AFTER READING DO SOMETHING WITH WHAT Ss. READ -SUMMARIZE READING (ORAL OR WRITTEN) -DEBATE THE TOPIC (REFLECT ON PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT THE TEXT) -ASK PERSONAL QUESTIONS -WRITE ABOUT THE TOPIC (JOURNAL ENTRY, OPINION PARAGRAPH)
