Branding, differentiation, and marketing of Intellectual Property (IP) law firms. This was the Keynote presentation by Ross Fishman, CEO Fishman Marketing, of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) Sept 2014 conference. Using many detailed actual examples and law firm case studies, it covers how to stand out, identifying a niche market, and how to use SEO and social media like LinkedIn and Google+.
It focuses on targeting narrow industries or sub-specialty practice areas to stand above the crowd. It also covers internal-communications and cross-selling issues and using a retreat to help the lawyers work together across offices and practice areas.
Being Boutique: Small Business Practices for Big Business ReturnsJared Golberg
In an industry heavily run by big players with years of experience and marketing dollars at the ready, it’s tough to create a strong platform for success for those starting out. Marketing, business meetings, cold calls and sponsorship opportunities seem to be the standard voice in creating a strong existence, but there are ways to trigger quick growth as a boutique firm with a small team of event professionals! Through our session of ‘Being Boutique’, we’ll cover ways to market, promote and create everlasting partnerships using small techniques with large business returns. We’ll cover Social Media, press opportunities, cold calling, venue/vendor meetings and ways to create that hard to achieve buzz in an industry that fights for dollars and RFPs.

Thanks to the broad proliferation of digital channels such as email, text, chat, display ads, paid search ads, social media, ecommerce and website interactions, your customer's buying process has grown to be highly complex. Before making a purchase decision, a prospective customer will engage numerous times with your brand and your people through many different channels - sometimes over many days, weeks, and months. And, after the decision is made, the fun really begins. Empowered with digital media channels of their own, customers can become your greatest advocates or your worst nightmare. So, how are you responding?

Today marks a very special day for me. Five years ago I made the very scary decision to leave corporate America. I would love to say that I’ve never looked back but that would be a lie. The first year was AWFUL, the second year was very hard, but finally in the third year I started to see light in the tunnel. I love this quote as it pretty much sums it up for me - “When it is dark enough – you can see the stars.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson. Creating better CX to increase customer loyalty Nic Tinworth 田尼克
It's not enough to expect your customers to react to traditional stamp or points-based loyalty programs anymore. Now, more than ever, you must consider the entire customer journey and what customer motivations and pain points you should address along it to maximise the emotional connection.
The first morning I woke up as an entrepreneur is something I’ll never forget. It was about 4 a.m. in the morning, the house was all quiet, and I was thinking to myself, I don’t have a real job. I got up and paced the floor with one word in my head, foreclosure. I think back to that time and I was either running around like a chicken with my head cut off OR I was frozen. Needless to say neither of those functions make for a profitable business so I’ve had my fair share of mishaps. Mishaps brought on by bad and sometimes desperate decisions. Which leads me to another very valuable lesson I learned, desperate people don’t make good decisions. That was then, and this is now. The years of mistakes and setbacks have made me smarter and stronger. I’ve discovered how to free myself from the disease of perfection paralysis which allows me to get things done. I’ve also found great comfort and fortune in merely having a plan.
