How RaspberryPi workers building GraphDatabaseMiro Wengner
Distributed system consist from from RaspberryPi workers. These workers are building up GraphDatabse (Neo4j) based on simple logic of exchanging cars. The result of the exchanges is send to the BASE server and projected into GraphDatabase.
Server uses Spring Framework 4.x and each RaspberryPi worker Netty 4.x

SXSW 2015 Shredding Wireframes: Intro to Rapid PrototypingKyle Outlaw
This 2015 workshop at SXSW covered:
- Current state of UX, limitations of common deliverables (e.g. wireframes)
- POV on prototyping and why it's important in user experience design
- Available tools (Invision, Justinmind, etc)
- Case study: using the Tech Summit app as an example
- What about the spec?
Key Takeaways
- Wireframes are near obsolete
- Why prototype
- Available methods
- Learn about available tools, pros and cons
- Documenting detailed functionality (annotating the prototype)
Infinum Android Talks #03 - Android Design Best Practices - for Designers and...Infinum
The goal of the presentation is to improve the level of cooperation between designers and developers. Designers will get a look at how the layout designing process for Android works. In turn, developers will learn best practices to better handle design changes and improve code quality.
We've discussed the presentation in advance with both developers and designers, to pinpoint the topics that are of real interest to both parties.
Breaking the Oracle Tie; High Performance OLTP and Analytics Using MongoDBMongoDB
This talk is the story of design and implementation of Marketing Communication Suite at Persado. Marketing Communication Suite is a platform serving tens of customers ranging from telecoms to finance and web properties with persuasion marketing language messaging. Our platform uses a range of technologies with the most important being MongoDB for the online transactional and analytical processing of messages. Topics this talk will be about: MongoDB Aggregation vs. Mapreduce Data Modeling Deployment Architecture Migration Scenarios Hybrid Solutions
How do volunteer open-source projects create and maintain so many
compelling, competitive products? What is the Open Source Secret
Sauce? Join open-source insider, Ted Husted, as he takes us deep
inside the Apache Software Foundation, to show how the sausages are
made.
In this session, you will learn
* Why open source matters;
* How open source development works at the ASF;
* What makes open source projects successful.

The Big Data Journey at Connexity - Big Data Day LA 2015Will Gage
It isn't easy to drink from the technology firehose of today's Internet economy. At Connexity, we have gone from home-grown MapReduce frameworks and custom in-house search-engines to extensive use of Apache Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Cassandra, Solr and other technologies to power our business. This talk will explore some of the evolutionary steps that we've made and what lessons you might draw from our 15+ years of experience of swimming with the Internet sharks.

Big Data @Rdio!
Tracks metadata!
Signal
Processing!
Millions of hrs of music streamed
every month!
Clicks!
User Demography!
Social Info!
Every single
interaction!
12. !
Baseline -Popularity!
Recommend based on popularity of tracks!
Pros:!
• Again, a very simple model!
• Easy to implement!
• More efficient on Apache Giraph(by exploiting its property)!
• Always a good baseline!
Cons:!
• Not really recommending anything!
• No element of discovery!
18. !
Pros!
• Easy to reason models!
• Easily scaled via Map Reduce.!
• Gives decent performance on test set!
Cons!
• If users and the items space are not stable, then things can and will go
wrong.!
• Lacks serendipity.!
• No guarantee on the number of predictions/user. !
!
19. !
Latent Factor Models!
Approach pioneered during Netflix Prize Competition.!
Key idea is to decompose rating matrix into multiple lower rank
approximations.!
23. !
Pros!
• Tries to learn the underlying concepts!
• User/ item supplementary information can be baked in into learning
algorithm (factorization machines).!
!
Cons:!
• Doesn’t perform as well as simple nearest models!
• Interpretation of latent space is hard.!
!
24. !
Bayesian Personalized Ranking!
• Constructs a preference order for each user!
• Directly optimizes the ranking function!
• Takes into account the order preference.!
• Implemented in scalable fashion on top of Apache
Giraph!
31. !
Current/Future work!
• Build an ensemble model to incorporate other models.!
• Simplify A/B testing framework.!
• Integrate content based recommendations.!
• Experimenting with some deep-learning techniques.!
• Incorporate information from the www.!
