RAYSTEDE
Living with animals.
A. Fitzjohn, E. Dowling,A.Williams, M. D’Oriano
WHAT IS IT?
•Raystede is an animal shelter based in Ringmer. It
provides sanctuary and caring for animals since it
opened 60 years ago.
•They rescue and rehome over 1500
animals every year.
•They are a registered charity.
WHY RAYSTEDE?
• Having a personal love for pets as a team, we considered pet abuse and
abandonment a growing issues in the UK.
• Raystede seemed the perfect place to represent our ideas, since it takes
care of several species of animals.
• Exploring this theme through our documentary was something we are all
eager to engage in.
THE NAME
The name of our project will be:
RAYSTEDE: living with animals.
We think this title will perfectly combine the aim of the shelter with the personal
experience of the people we will interview – and the story of their animals.

WHAT MAKES RAYSTEDE SPECIAL?
• One of their aims is an educational service, which informs its
audience on how to properly care for animals.
• Provides safe haven for variety of species, ranging from dogs to
tropical birds.
• Constantly seeking volunteers and donations to preserve and
improve the facilities and quality of life for the animals they
foster.
HUMAN INTEREST
• Animals are subject to a huge amount of
human interest – we love animals and the
companionship of them.
• We focused on Raystede because we felt like
it was the perfect place that could represent
our feelings and what we wanted to express
through our documentary.
• The major focus of the project will revolve
specifically around two personal stories, two
difficult situations in which dogs are involved.
• The topic of the video – the relationship
between humans and animals – is something
that can be easily relatable and engaging.

Editor's Notes

  • #6 We spoke to one of the Education Officers to plan our visits to Raystede. Then, we discussed the possibility of interviewing two workers that could share with us their personal experience. Before filming starts, we will do a recce on the location, allowing us to see what lighting and visuals are the best to use once filming. Thus allowing any problems with our planning or with the production stage to be minimal. We will contact the people we will interview to introduce them to the questions they will be asked, in order to allow them to start thinking of their answers in advance.
  • #7 The people in charge can provide insight into what gave them the idea and motivation to work at Raystede, in what way they feel it has changed them, improved them and challenged them. We will ask our interviewees about their personal experience with their own dogs and the story behind them.
