Rationale for Technology Integration
• Technology allows for students to receive a new,
authentic and meaningful learning experience
• Using technology expands student learning
outside of the classroom.
• Technology can be used very effectively when
teaching, especially about the water cycle
• This presentation will show how teachers can
integrate technology to create a more engaging
lesson

• Each website provides accurate information
regarding the water cycle
Blog
“7 Ideas To Teach The Water Cycle,” is a blog post written by Ariana Huddleston. This
post describes seven different ways to teach the water cycle. One method is the water
cycle baggie. This idea challenges the students to draw the water cycle on a zip-lock
bag, put water in the bottom of the bag and then tape it to the window. After a few
days, the students will be able to see evaporation and condensation. Another method
to teach the water cycle is the “Oceans and the Water Cycle Notebook Foldable.” This
challenges the students to discuss and analyze the interaction between the sun and
the ocean in the water cycle.

• The Water Project- thewaterproject.org offers interactive water
cycle presentations. It allows students to create their own mini
water cycles as well as learn how to restore balance in the water
cycle system.
• The Water Cycle Project – this project is a grass-roots organization
that works to raise money to drill fresh water wells in India. This
website can offer students a different perspective on water issues
around the world.
• WaterNet- WaterNet: The NASA Water Cycle Solutions Network is a
project that works to improve the sustained ability of water cycle
researchers, stakeholders, organizations and networks to interact
and extend NASA research results. By exposing this study to the
students, they are able to learn about the water cycle and water
problems worldwide. Showing them a different perspective will
strenthen their knowledge on the topic

Uses of the Internet: Online Books
• An Atlas of the Global Water Cycle – This
online book would be a great resource to use
in class. I feel that it would be very beneficial
because I as a teacher will be able to present
water cycle information from all different
climates. Presenting examples to students will
provide a greater learning basis. This atlas
contains both maps and tables that document
rainfall, evaporation and runoff, which are
three main aspects of the water cycle.

References
• Encyclopedia.com – To start off the lesson,
using encyclopedia.com would be very
helpful. This online reference provides a
general definition as well as the different
water processes. The information presented
on this reference would be perfect to
introduce the topic.

Rationale for Technology Integration • Technology allows for students to receive a new, authentic and meaningful learning experience • Using technology expands student learning outside of the classroom. • Technology can be used very effectively when teaching, especially about the water cycle • This presentation will show how teachers can integrate technology to create a more engaging lesson

  • 4. Blog “7 Ideas To Teach The Water Cycle,” is a blog post written by Ariana Huddleston. This post describes seven different ways to teach the water cycle. One method is the water cycle baggie. This idea challenges the students to draw the water cycle on a zip-lock bag, put water in the bottom of the bag and then tape it to the window. After a few days, the students will be able to see evaporation and condensation. Another method to teach the water cycle is the “Oceans and the Water Cycle Notebook Foldable.” This challenges the students to discuss and analyze the interaction between the sun and the ocean in the water cycle.
  • 7. Internet Resources • The Water Project- thewaterproject.org offers interactive water cycle presentations. It allows students to create their own mini water cycles as well as learn how to restore balance in the water cycle system. • The Water Cycle Project – this project is a grass-roots organization that works to raise money to drill fresh water wells in India. This website can offer students a different perspective on water issues around the world. • WaterNet- WaterNet: The NASA Water Cycle Solutions Network is a project that works to improve the sustained ability of water cycle researchers, stakeholders, organizations and networks to interact and extend NASA research results. By exposing this study to the students, they are able to learn about the water cycle and water problems worldwide. Showing them a different perspective will strenthen their knowledge on the topic
  • 13. Subject Specific Internet Based Resources • Science NetLinks allows you to search any topics and it will display many different lessons and tools. • When searching for “the water cycle,” I found “The Water Cycle at Work”
  • 14. Uses of the Internet: Online Books • An Atlas of the Global Water Cycle – This online book would be a great resource to use in class. I feel that it would be very beneficial because I as a teacher will be able to present water cycle information from all different climates. Presenting examples to students will provide a greater learning basis. This atlas contains both maps and tables that document rainfall, evaporation and runoff, which are three main aspects of the water cycle.
  • 15. Uses of the Internet: Online References • Encyclopedia.com – To start off the lesson, using encyclopedia.com would be very helpful. This online reference provides a general definition as well as the different water processes. The information presented on this reference would be perfect to introduce the topic.

  1. This blog is very helpful for teachers who are unsure how to approach teaching the water cycle. This blog post offers seven different activities to use when teaching the water cycle. With each activity, there is a picture as well as a summary as to the correct way to go about teaching this lesson. Having the students do activities hands on is very beneficial because the students are getting first hand experience.   2. This video is a great visual that can be shown during a lesson on the water cycle. This video helps the students see up close the different aspects of the water cycle. In this video, there are images as well as short clips thoroughly explaining the different parts.
  3. This YouTube video is called “Water Cycle Song.” This song is a fun and easy way for students to learn all about the water cycle. Many students are strictly auditory learners so this video would definitely be helpful for these types of students. Also, this video has many different images that thoroughly describes the water cycle so, for visual learners, this video would greatly benefit.

  5. I decided to use Kidspiration to create an organizer. Many children have a difficult time keeping all of the information presented in class organized so I felt that providing and working on the diagram as a class will be very beneficial. I created this chart so while I teach the four main components of the water cycle, the students will be able to fill in as I teach it.
  6. This worksheet would correlate greatly with the water cycle. This is a worksheets that a student could complete after a lecture. The students are given a word bank and they have to choose the best word to fit each sentence. This worksheet would be considered a “fill in the blank” worksheet.

This worksheet could be challenging for the students because there is no word bank. This worksheet requires the students to think and I would allow the students to use their notes in order to complete this.

I would as a class have the students label each part of the water cycle. The students will be able to constantly refer back to this sheet to get a visual on the water cycle.

Using the classroom computers or iPads, the students will be able to research exactly what the water cycle is and how it works. This worksheet not only focuses on science, but it also focuses on writing as well as research.

Personally, when searching the water cycle, I was exposed to numerous lesson plans and activities that related right back to my topic. In the classroom, instead of teachers constantly searching for lesson plans, these lesson plans are now accessible online. You are able to attach files, CCSS standards, and export your lesson plans to word or PDFS. Also, sharing lessons with other teachers as well as substitute teachers will definitely be a lot easier.
