PDHPE is important as it encourages understanding of self and others, promotes lifelong physical activity, and emphasizes informed decision making. It addresses 5 essential areas for children's wellbeing: active lifestyle, safe living, growth and development, personal health choices, and interpersonal relationships. Teaching these PDHPE areas helps children develop knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to lead healthy, active lives through improved fitness, skill development, self-discipline, judgement, and peer relationships and increased self-confidence.
