Fasting during Ramadan is prescribed for Muslims as it was for those before, so that self-restraint may be learned. It is recommended to have a light pre-dawn meal, eat three dates and drink water after sunset with a prayer of thanks, and make other meals light. Fasting earns rewards from God, with virtues including forgiveness of sins and intercession on Judgment Day. Muslims are encouraged to intensify worship, charity, and good deeds during Ramadan, and to pray for acceptance of fasts and worship on the Night of Decree.
