Clinical experience in interventional cardiology:
I worked as an interventional cardiology fellow at the Mount Sinai hospital, New York. This is
the busiest lab in the New York state performing around 5500 angioplasties a year including
complex coronary and structural interventions. Over last 6 years, whilst working at tertiary

5. Clinical experience in General Cardiology:
In England, I had an excellent opportunity to train in general cardiology.
Cardiology on call (1:8) provided comprehensive experience of PPCI service, triage ward
rounds and cross specialty referrals. I was responsible for weekly cardiology ward rounds
(2:7), 2 general cardiology outpatient clinics and a rapid access chest pain clinic.
My responsibilities as a cardiology trainee included
 Taking referrals from paramedics and district hospitals for primary PCI
 Management of cardiology patients on the CCU, ward and MAU
 Coordination between consultant, junior doctors and staff in cardiology
 Diagnostic left heart catheterization, RHC, PCI and pacemaker implantation
 Bedside echocardiograms, emergency temporary pacing and pericardiocentesis
 Weekly cardiac outpatient clinics, formulating management plans with the consultant
for new patients and independently seeing follow ups
 Attendances at weekly GUCH meetings, maternal medicine MDT meetings.
Experience in Internal Medicine:
In England, I worked as a medical specialist registrar for 3 years. My responsibilities included
management of acutely ill patients, liaison with other specialist medical and surgical services,
supervision of junior medical doctors, providing medical services for non-medical specialties.
Besides comprehensive management of acutely ill patients, I improved my managerial skills. I
was responsible for prioritising, clinical decision-making, coordinating between medical and
paramedical staff, delegating jobs and improving throughput. Two and half year medical SHO
rotation has provided an excellent experience in the comprehensive management of a wide
range of medical problems. I rotated through various medical specialties and was involved in
acute medical take in busy district general hospitals.
I had 3 years of structured training in Internal Medicine at Pune University, India. 1300 bed
Sassoon Hospital offered me comprehensive experience in wide range of clinical problems in
various specialties, in particular tropical infectious diseases, oncology and HIV medicine. I
was appointed to the post of lecturer in clinical medicine at the end of my training.

I spent 6 months of dedicated time in ITU at the Queen Elizabeth hospital and have regularly
worked in ITU in Pune, India for 3 years. (1:7) I gained valuable experience in management
of multi organ failure, invasive and noninvasive ventilation, invasive monitoring, inotropic
support, renal replacement therapy, cardiac output monitoring. I learnt crucial skills of
counseling and breaking bad news. I have achieved an ability to work under pressure
situations and learnt multidisciplinary approach to the patient management.

6. Experience in renal medicine:
I worked in renal dialysis unit for 3 years (1:7) whilst training in India. I worked as a SHO at a
satellite dialysis unit of Addenbrooke’s hospital. I am competent in invasive procedures like
double lumen haemodialysis catheters and peritoneal dialysis catheter. I gained experience
of managing complex medical issues in acute and chronic renal patients.
Research Experience:
I attended Good Clinical Practice course run by National Institute for Health Research in
2011. This gave me an understanding of frameworks and guidelines, which govern the set up
and conduct of clinical trial.
I recruited patients for following trials
1. YELLOW trial: Assessment of coronary plaque using OCT and Lipiscan at baseline
and after 10 weeks of high dose Rosuvastatin. 2013-14
2. MACE Registry: Assessment for MACE events after intervention of calcified coronaries
3. PRAMI trial: [Preventive angioplasty in acute myocardial infarction] This is a trial to
assess culprit only versus multi vessel PCI in patients undergoing primary PCI.
4. REGENERATE-AMI: This is a randomised controlled clinical trial to assess use of
autologous bone marrow derived progenitor cells to salvage myocardium in patients
with acute anterior myocardial infarction.
5. ILLUMINATE study: Phase 3 trial of torcetrapib with Atorvastatin. Study terminated.
6. BEAUTIfUL study: Role of If channel Ivabradine in patients with CAD and LV systolic
dysfunction.
7. APPRAISE-1 study: Apixaban for prevention of acute ischaemic safety events.
8. BeYOND study: Role of a thrombin inhibitor [AZD drug] in prevention of
thromboembolic episodes in patients of atrial fibrillation.
As a part of my post graduate training, I submitted a dissertation to the Pune University for
the award of MD Degree: Clinico-radiological profile of intracerebral hemorrhage with
special reference to prognostic factors. This prospective study was conducted over a
period of two and half years, looking at prognosis of 60 patients with CT scan proven
intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). I designed the protocol under the guidance of Professor Dr
A S Bhave and obtained approval from ethics committee. Thesis was accepted by Pune
University after independent review from experts. I was awarded MD degree in July 2002.
Increasing age, altered consciousness, modified GCS < 8 on admission, blood sugar >10
mmol, volume of bleed >30 ml, midline shift > 3 mm and intravascular extension of ICH were
poor prognostic factors. Most of the deaths occurred in the first week of admission.
Audit Experience:
1. RReSQ study (Record Review for Safety and Quality): Department of health, Royal
College of physicians, London and Sheffield University established this joint project to
assess quality of care through review of medical records. This multi-center project
included 29 centers across England. In phase 2 of this study, I looked at the
management of 40 cases of chronic heart failure at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Quality
of care provided in a hospital admission episode was appraised. I assessed the quality

7. of history taking, investigations, medical management, level of communication between
primary & secondary care. NICE guidelines were used as set standards. 2007
2. Hyperglycemia in ACS patients: Presented at clinical governance meeting at Norfolk
and Norwich Hospital on 9th
March 2012. 143 cases of ACS presenting to hospital in
October 2011 were assessed to evaluate our current management of hyperglycemia in
light of recently published NICE guidelines. October 2011
3. Pacemaker audit: Presented pacemaker data for the year 2009-10 at regional East
Anglia audit meeting. November 2010
4. Cath lab audit: Coronary angiogram data for the year 2008-2009. I analyzed the data
