The RAGELabPlus project aims to create an innovative method called the Rage Laboratory to help trainers and counselors equip young unemployed adults to better understand and develop alternative behaviors to violence, aggressiveness, and aggression. The Rage Laboratory method involves three stages - virtual, physical, and reality - to experience emotions and behaviors at different levels of abstraction and then anchor alternative actions in real life situations. Partners from seven European countries are developing guidelines and a computer program to facilitate the Rage Laboratory method as well as train-the-trainer sessions to transfer this innovative practice.

2. RAGELabPlus is a Grundtvig multilateral project funded by the Europeon Commission under
the Lifelong Learning Programme addressing trainers, teachers, counsellors working in vocational
training and guidance with diverse, unemployed young adults. Partner organisations are
experts in the fields of adult education, vocational training and guidance, scientific research and
experience-based learning.
The project started in November 2009 and will end in September 2011.
What’s the benefit?
The project’s main objective is to create an innovative method for it’s target group to be better equipped
in helping their trainees understand violence, aggressiveness and aggression and eventually develop alternative
behaviours for themselves.
What is it?
This new method comprises a laboratory-like setting in three stages and explicit guidelines for trainers and counsellors
to ensure safe framework, excellent monitoring, careful reflection and practical transfer into every-day life.
RAGELab-stages:
VIRTUAL: Experience role models, behavioral models and emotions on an abstract level
by taking on characteristics of avatars.
PHYSICAL: Act, move and feel aggression directly in the body by e.g. kick-boxing.
REALITY: Anchor and transfer by defining own “avatars” and scripts of situations experienced before.
Test and internalise well-reflected, self-empowered alternative actions by acting out these situations.
What are the products?
The project team will elaborate the Rage Laboratory, an innovative computer-based evalution programme, comprehensive
guidelines, and conduct train-the-trainer sessions in all partner countries and an international conference.
What is the plan?
In 2010 the Rage Laboratory will be set up, profoundly tested and adapted, the guidelines for trainers and counsellors
will be assembled and published. In 2011 train-the-trainer courses will be conducted in all partner countries to facilitate
the transfer of this innovative practise in all participating countries. Towards the end of the project duration an international
conference will be held in Naples which will provide a presentation of the project’s work and output as well as an opportunity
for discussions on violence prevention and methods for self-empowered dealing with aggressiveness. Also there will be
a possibility for participants to test and expierence a small version of the Rage Laboratory themselves.
