Reading Quest is a resource for teaching reading comprehension strategies in social studies. It uses a RAFT format where students adopt a role, consider their audience, and write about a topic using a specific format. The goal is for students to make sense of social studies topics by practicing different reading perspectives and styles of writing.

Intellectual Property Alert: Continuation of Post-Bilski Decisions
The Federal Circuit issued another post-Bilski decision defining patentable subject matter under 35 U.S.C. § 101. In Fort Properties v. American Master Lease, the court ruled that an investment method and system based on real property exchanges was an unpatentable abstract idea, even though some claims recited using a computer. The court found the computer limitation was insignificant post-solution activity and did not involve advances in computer technology. Going forward, abstract ideas alone will likely not be patentable, but an abstract idea closely related to computing may be acceptable if the computer performs non-routine steps. Claims should emphasize the computer aspects of inventions, and previously issued business method patents may need reissuing.

It engages students with tools like interactive lessons, audio tutorials, web lessons, and apps. Teachers can search resources by standard or subject to integrate them into their lessons. Participants will also participate in writing exercises that can translate into a positive classroom experience.
