Radio Shack Corporation began as Tandy Corporation in the early 1960s. It grew to become the largest consumer electronics retailer in the US, operating over 7,100 stores nationwide selling electronics parts and accessories. The company partnered with other electronics and computer brands like Compaq to sell their products. Founder Charles Tandy expanded a small leather shop into Tandy Corporation and began acquiring electronics stores, growing Radio Shack into a highly successful nationwide chain through motivated employees and aggressive sales tactics. However, declines set in after Tandy's death as the new leadership lacked his business acumen.
