Radio broadcasting involves the transmission of audio over radio waves to reach a wide audience. There are various forms of radio broadcasting including AM, FM, commercial, and non-commercial stations. In the UK, the main national radio stations are BBC Radio 1 (popular music), BBC Radio 2 (popular music and talk), BBC Radio 3 (classical music), BBC Radio 4 (speech-based programming), and BBC Radio 5 Live (sports news). Local BBC radio stations serve specific regions of the UK. The BBC World Service broadcasts news and discussions in 28 languages worldwide without advertisements. It is primarily funded through television license fees paid by UK households watching live TV.

2. Radio Broadcasting
 Radio broadcasting is a one-way wireless transmission over radio waves
intended to reach a wide audience. . Stations can be linked in radio
networks to broadcast a common radio format. . Audio broadcasting also
can be done via cable radio, local wire television networks, satellite radio,
and internet radio
 Broadcasting by radio takes several forms. These include AM and FM
stations. There are several subtypes, namely commercial broadcasting,
non-commercial educational public broadcasting
 AM stations were the earliest broadcasting stations to Developed
 FM refers to frequency modulation, and occurs on VHF airwaves in the
frequency range of 88 to 108 MHz

3. National Radio Station
 There is different national radio station in the UK.
 I will explain each National Radio Station and what they do on there radio stations
 BBC Radio 1 is a British radio station operated by the British Broadcasting Corporation which
also broadcasts internationally, specialising in current popular music and chart hits throughout
the day.
 BBC Radio 2 BBC Radio 2 is one of the BBC's national radio stations and the most popular
station in the United Kingdom. Programmes are relayed on digital radio via, Sky,, Freeview,
Free sat and the Internet
 BBC Radio 3 is a British radio station operated by the BBC. Its output centres on classical music
and opera, but jazz, world music, drama, culture and the arts also feature
 BBC Radio 4 is a British radio station, owned and operated by the British Broadcasting
Corporation (BBC), that broadcasts a wide variety of spoken-word programmes, including
news, drama, comedy, science and history.
 BBC Radio 5 Live is a BBC's national radio service that shows live BBC News, phone-ins,
interviews and sports commentaries. It is a radio station that covers sport in the United
Kingdom, broadcasting sports around the world especially UK

4. Local Radio Stations
 Some examples of Local Radio Stations are:
 BBC Essex which is a BBC Local radio service for the English county of




Essex.
BBC Radio Bristol which is a BBC Local Radio service for the English city of
Bristol and the surrounding former Avon area
BBC Radio Leeds which is a BBC Local Radio service for the English
metropolitan county of West Yorkshire.
BBC Radio York which is a BBC Local Radio service for the English county of
North Yorkshire.
BBC Sussex is the BBC Local Radio service for the English county of Sussex.

5. BBC World Service
 BBC World Service is the world's largest international broadcaster. Its





Broadcast news, speech and discussions in 28 languages.
Also BBC World Service does not carry advertising, and the English
language service broadcasts 24 hours a day
The World Service is currently funded by grant-in-aid
However from 2014, it will be funded by the compulsory television licence
fee
The World Service was reported to have reached 188 million people a
week on average in June 2009

6. The Licence Fee
 In the United Kingdom and the Crown Dependencies, any household
watching or recording live television transmissions as they are being
broadcast ( satellite, cable, or internet) is required to hold a television
licence.
 Since 1 April 2010 the annual licence fee has been £145.50 for colour and
£49.00 for black and white. The total income from licence fees was £3.6562
billion in 2012–13
 16.3% was provided by the Government through concessions for those
over the age of 75
