Racing in the Rain
Racing in the rain: My Life as a Dogis about a dog named Enzo that tell his story of him
and his best friend, car racing fan, Denny. I think the book was named that because the word
racing means like how they are big car racing fans and racing in the rain because they have to go
through a lot of challenges to make it to the end, and of course the main character of the story
will have to be Enzo because he tells the story and all this is mostly just about him and how he
live his life as a dog.
The author of this book is Garth Stein, also authors of The Raven Stole the Moon and the
Art of Racing in the Rain. They both must be good because Racing in the Rain: My Life as a Dog
is one of the best books I have ever read. This book is a non-fiction because this is a true book of
a dog and his best friend who are together until the end and do go through some challenges
through the way, but they faced all the challenges and came out alright. They all live together in
an apartment, Denny, Zoe, which is Denny’s daughter, Denny’s wife and of course Enzo. One
tragedy that happens during the story is that Denny’s wife dies with a disease that no doctor can
figure out how to cure, and that broke all three of them because they were all much attached to
each other and losing one was a big tragedy that happened to the family.

The conflict of the story Denny trying to become a racecar driver but not being able to
because the entire problem they try to go through, so throughout the whole story that is the main
thing that’s going on. So that means it is man vs. man because its man that they face with
problem is like Denny’s mom not wanting Denny to become a race car driver and the men who
could have help Denny, but just never really tried because they thought that he couldn’t do it and
it was too hard and impossible. So to start off with the rising action would have to be Denny’s
wife getting sick and nobody being able to help to try to cure her. All that is what starts them off
all bad because they have to take of her and help her so Denny can’t really do anything because
he is worried. Then, the climax is when Enzo dies because of old age, and the last word that
Denny says right before he dies is “Its ok, boy” and that was also the saddest part. Then, the
falling action is Denny going to Imola, Italy to race as a professional race car driver. Then finally
it all goes down to the resolution when after Denny’s big race he meets kid that reminds him a
lot of Enzo, then he says something that he finally figured out that it was, “the car goes where the
eyes go.”
My favorite character would have to be Enzo because he is very funny, yet serous and a
dog that anyone would fall in love with, but overall I think that this story tries to say that the
saying “a dog is man best friend” is a very true saying because dogs know when you are sad or
mad or just have something in your mind that you can’t get out and it’s just bugging you. So the
conclusion is that dogs are your best friends and that they are with you throughout everything
and they are always there to help you even when you don’t know they are helping you. Every
dog is the same, but ones just don’t show it as much others, but every dog helps you and is
smarter than they look. So dog is man best friend.

So finally the conclusion of this story is that I personally think that is a great book and
that everyone should read it because it teaches you a great lesson not just about how great dogs
are, but also how to overcome problems and try to get through them. Not giving up and keep
trying until there are no more options left to do. So, I recommend this book to everyone all ages
because it is a good book to and to learn from. There are great friends out there in the world you
just have to go out there and find them. Sometimes your best friend your pet.
