- This was one of the most successful group projects that I have completed throughout my graduate studies. Each team member had a set role and put in full effort towards completing her assigned responsibilities. Our group worked extremely well together! We collaborated through both technology and through meeting face-to-face. Overall, we enjoyed working together and learned from each other throughout the duration of this phase of the project. A schedule was set (which each group member abided to) *CLICK* and we were sure to effectively time manage to allow for sufficient time to look deeply at the data and plan our initiatives. Throughout the entire process, we shared ideas, provided feedback, and used our own experiences to develop comprehensive initiatives. Incorporating all of the details and data could not have been successfully completed alone.
- The most powerful part of the team experience was meeting in person. While the collaborative effort was still personal prior to meeting face-to-face, meeting each other was extremely valuable. We met on November 3rd at a Starbucks in Laurel, Maryland *CLICK*I feel that it was easier to share ideas with each other in person rather than over the phone or through video conferencing. While we had conversations through technological mediums, our conversing was more natural when done in a face-to-face setting. Additionally, it was great to actually meet the other members of my group! We got along very well when we talked online, but we got along even better when we met in person. While I enjoy taking classes at UMUC, I do miss the face-to-face social interactions that are more often found in a traditional classroom. Meeting in person provided me with an opportunity to revisit the social component that I miss at UMUC.
- My weakest moment while working on the Phase II project was after our first group conference during Week 5. We utilized Google Chat, but solely the Instant Messaging feature *CLICK*. This was the first time that we were having a conversation, and so we all had plenty of ideas to share. However, having this type of conversation when we all had so much to say was extremely difficult. Messages were being delayed and we were “talking” over each other. The conversation was pretty difficult to follow. While it can still be considered successful because we did share ideas and make progress on our conference, any future conversations were held Google Talk *CLICK*. These voice conferences allowed us to converse in a more “real-time” manner. We were better able to listen to each other and not interrupt each other.
- Overall, I enjoyed the Phase II process. Not only did I enjoy working with my group members, but I also learned a lot about data-driven decision making. This assignment gave me the opportunity to take what I have learned throughout the course and apply it to a “real-world” situation. As a result, my understanding of data-driven decision making has definitely improved.
