1. For our next project we will be creating A MOVIE ! BUT this will not be just your favorite Wacka Flacka video clips… Your movie must address a cultural or racial problem or issue.

2. Our project is based on the work of DJ SPOOKY. He “remixed” an old EXTREMELY RACIST movie about the KluKluxClan called “Birth of a Nation”. In his remix he chopped up and re-arranged clips so that the Black People in the movie win the battle against the Klu Klux Clan.

3. We will learn how to research and ask big questions in order to come up with a topic for our video by studying an example that Mr McElgunn will create. Mr McElgunns example movie will be about the history of black people in the media .

4. RACE VIDEO REMIX ! Objective: Using DJ Spookys idea of “video remix” create a 10-15 minute video that deals with a cultural or racial issue or problem.

5. Your chopped up and remixed video must include the following ingredients: 1. At least three clips that you have downloaded from different online video sites that have to do with your topic.

6. 2. At least 5 minutes of footage from an interview you tape that deals with your topic.

7. 3. A 2-5 minute play you write that has to do with your topic.

9. 2. Study Mr McElgunns example topic about the history of black people in the media. This will help you to find our own topic.

10. 3. Research and select your own topic that has to do with a racial or cultural issue.

11. 4. Create and write a quick play that you will videotape based upon your topic.

12. 3. Learn how to interview someone. And then interview someone about your topic

13. 4. Find videos on the internet that relate to your topic, and save them on your computer.

14. 4. Learn how to gather all these things together and use the “I-movie program to create a remix or video collage.
