The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the EU's 1995 data protection rules and strengthens online privacy and data protection for EU citizens. It introduces fines up to 4% of global annual turnover for noncompliance. From May 2018, companies must notify breaches within 72 hours and communicate high risk breaches to affected individuals without undue delay. Encryption is presented as an effective technical measure to secure personal data and avoid breach notification requirements. The document provides an overview of the GDPR and promotes an encryption product from ESET to help organizations comply.
