How did you attract / address your
audience?
We decided to aim our film at a particular age group
of 15+. (Refer back to Question 4 for my reason and
answer to why we chose this).

In this slideshow presentation I will:
talk about items in the movie that we used to
attract the audience.
use screenshots and audio to put my ideas across.
Lighting: Dark / Light - Tension
Using a contrast between light and
dark throughout the scenes of our film
creates a sense of tension. From
beginning to the end we use a
dramatic amount of dark lighting
(especially in the vlog scenes), this
attracts the audience as they begin to
ask questions such as: why is he there?
What’s happened to him?
The lighting throughout our film
dramatically darkens, from the
peaceful countryside when the couple
first arrive to when the couple walk
into the house, indicating that the
house is the reason behind the
happenings and why everything has
happened.
Young Actors / Characters
+ Clothes

Often movies that want to attract a younger
age, usually use characters / actors that are also
quite young to help attract the right audience.
We wanted to show that the characters in the
film were both fairly young. To do so we dressed
both the characters in young, stylish clothing.
Both wearing coats and suitable outdoors
clothing for the countryside. We see the female
wearing a pair of horse riding boots, however
the male character wears a pair of white
trainers. By the clothing and style of the
characters, this can also attract many different
types of people to watch the movie. As we have
one male and one female the audience, we can
imagine, will be a mixture of male and female.
Suspense
Building suspense throughout the sequence will keep
the audience interested and they will carry on watching,
with the beginning of the sequence being ultimately the
end of the whole film this creates tension and enigma,
making the audience ask questions.
With the shot of the car coming down the drive, we
wanted it to create a sense of a thriller, by using jump
cuts to create suspense. Before this scene we do not see
the characters, unable to see the characters for a long
time in the sequence also builds suspense and
questions. What is the car doing there? Why is it coming
towards the house?
At the end of our opening sequence we use a dramatic
crescendo creating suspense and tension, and “on the
edge of your seat” anxiety.
Sound
By using a dramatic use of sound throughout the
opening sequence we were able to capture and create
tension able to attract the audience. At the end of the
sequence, using a crescendo ultimately helps to
increase tension massively as the continuing film then
continues, increasing the tension and then letting it go
for a while.
We wanted the male character to sound as hopeless
and as weak as possible, by making the script up as we
went along filming the male character was able to
make it sound even more confused. By panting and
loss of breath, we made the male character become
the weaker gender.
In the vlogging scenes we included background
noises, that we filmed whilst on set, such as walking
up stairs and rubble being kicked. By adding these
sounds it attracts the audience to think about what’s
happening. Once again asking questions.

  • 2. Lighting: Dark / Light - Tension Using a contrast between light and dark throughout the scenes of our film creates a sense of tension. From beginning to the end we use a dramatic amount of dark lighting (especially in the vlog scenes), this attracts the audience as they begin to ask questions such as: why is he there? What’s happened to him? The lighting throughout our film dramatically darkens, from the peaceful countryside when the couple first arrive to when the couple walk into the house, indicating that the house is the reason behind the happenings and why everything has happened.
  • 3. Young Actors / Characters + Clothes Often movies that want to attract a younger age, usually use characters / actors that are also quite young to help attract the right audience. We wanted to show that the characters in the film were both fairly young. To do so we dressed both the characters in young, stylish clothing. Both wearing coats and suitable outdoors clothing for the countryside. We see the female wearing a pair of horse riding boots, however the male character wears a pair of white trainers. By the clothing and style of the characters, this can also attract many different types of people to watch the movie. As we have one male and one female the audience, we can imagine, will be a mixture of male and female.
  • 4. Suspense Building suspense throughout the sequence will keep the audience interested and they will carry on watching, with the beginning of the sequence being ultimately the end of the whole film this creates tension and enigma, making the audience ask questions. With the shot of the car coming down the drive, we wanted it to create a sense of a thriller, by using jump cuts to create suspense. Before this scene we do not see the characters, unable to see the characters for a long time in the sequence also builds suspense and questions. What is the car doing there? Why is it coming towards the house? At the end of our opening sequence we use a dramatic crescendo creating suspense and tension, and “on the edge of your seat” anxiety.
  • 5. Sound By using a dramatic use of sound throughout the opening sequence we were able to capture and create tension able to attract the audience. At the end of the sequence, using a crescendo ultimately helps to increase tension massively as the continuing film then continues, increasing the tension and then letting it go for a while. We wanted the male character to sound as hopeless and as weak as possible, by making the script up as we went along filming the male character was able to make it sound even more confused. By panting and loss of breath, we made the male character become the weaker gender. In the vlogging scenes we included background noises, that we filmed whilst on set, such as walking up stairs and rubble being kicked. By adding these sounds it attracts the audience to think about what’s happening. Once again asking questions.
