How did you attract/address your audience?

2. Narrative
The narrative of my film has been designed to cater to my audience. There are
several ways it does this:
> All of the characters in my film are teenage girls so this attracts a girl audience because they can watch the film and relate to the girls behaviours
and relationships or even see similarities between them and the characters.
> My paranormal antagonist will attract an audience of people who believe in spirits, ghosts, demons etc. Because if they believe in them and are
interested by them then it’ll make them want to watch the film.
> The chase and escape in my film will attract the audience of people who enjoy action movies as well as horror films because the usual story line of an
action movie is the chase and this is what happens in mine because the girls are running away from the antagonist.
> The enigma codes in my film, for example, when the young girl is first seen the audience will question “who’s that?” and “what is she doing there?”
and carry on watching the film to find out a bit more about her and what her purpose is in the film.
> By having enigma codes in my film, this leads to having action codes which also attracts the audience. Action codes keeps the narrative going and
keeping the audience interested, my film does this by showing the girls trying to get away but they break down and the text “I’m coming for you”
shows the little girl is still coming after them even though they’ve got away and has somehow texted them all at the same time, creating mystery.

Horror conventions in my film attract/address my audience because they’re
all thing they expect from a horror film. For example:
> The setting i’ve used has conformed to the horror conventions of the isolated and dark scenery. Mine is in a woody area so there’s not
many places they can run and escape from the antagonist which is essential in horror films because it’s all about the antagonist trying
to get to protagonist.
> I’ve used sound to show a typical horror convention. There’s a banging noise which the antagonist creates and the girls notice the noise
but don’t seem too startled by it but then realise it could something so they begin to run, this is typical of a horror film because this is
usually the trap for the protagonists to be captured or attacked by the antagonist. Another way i used sound was the over dramatic
non-diegetic music to set the mood of the scene and to scare the audience and make them jump. For example, i do this when the little
girl is suddenly in front of their car, i put in a sharp high pitched noise to make the audience jump.
> Another typical horror film convention, is my characters. I have all girls and typically it's the girls who die first because they're shown
as weak and vulnerable and unable to protect themselves. This is the reason for why my characters don't stay to fight the antagonist
but instead run away.

4. Characters
The ways my characters appeal to my audience is by, for example:
> I choose to have all girls because in horror films girls are usually portrayed as the most vulnerable and i feel like making them conform to this
stereotype creates more drama but also by the girls acting scared it’ll make the audience feel anxious as well. Another reason for the characters to
attract the audience is the the male gaze and how they’ll want to watch it because of all the girls in it and as my target audience is for 15 +, teenage
boys have been known to be drawn in by females.
> The costumes in my film appeal to the typical teenager style with the adidas shoes and tight skinny jeans and by having them dressed in casual
appropriate clothing the audience can relate to the characters as they’re dressed as normal everyday people. Furthermore, the costumes emphasise
the fact that they’re teens and the audience will recognise this as adults and younger people dress completely different. I choose to have all girls
because in horror films girls are usually portrayed as the most vulnerable and i feel like making them conform to this stereotype creates more
drama but also by the girls acting scared it’ll make the audience feel anxious as well. Another reason for the characters to attract the audience is

5. Technical codes
> Editing:
Through editing it appealed to the part of my audience who liked to be frightened because i made the cuts sharp and quick so it made the pace seem quicker and also by having the cuts be faster it has
more of a chance to scare the audience.
> Sound:
I used lots of different types of sound to attract and appeal to my audience. For example, i have ambient sound in the background to show realism of the film and by making it seem real this will put the
audience on edge. The diegetic sound, like the dialogue, this helps the audience work out the relationships between the characters and what their emotions are. By having the girls at the start have a easy
flowing conversation it shows they're good friends and people watching will be able to relate their friendship and maybe see some similarities between them and their friend group.
> Camera:
The camera angles i've used throughout my film attract the audience because the audience will be able to tell what genre it is. For example, i have a medium shot of a tree and the antagonist's walks out
from behind the tree making it look like she appeared there magical and then the camera shot turns it a pan showing a large tree which looks creepy. This gives the audience the idea that it's a horror and
it'll appeal to them because they're an audience which enjoy horror movies.
> Mise-en-scene:
My choice of costumes, props, scenery and lighting attracts my audience. The low key lighting sets the mood of the film to be dark and mysterious, which is similar to my scenery, the isolated setting
makes the audience know that somethings about to happen because they're not in a normal setting. The props in my film which has the most significance is the rocking chair and the mobile phone, the
mobile phone appeals to the audience because in today's generation almost everyone has an iPhone and they'll be able to recognise this and relate more to the character. I used a rocking chair because
they have connotations of horror and creepiness so i wanted it to end by freaking out the audience.
