3. Elizabeth I not only ruled for almost half a
century, she also became one of the greatest
rulers of England.
Born on September 7, 1533 in Greenwich
Palace, she was Henry VIII’s second’s wife’s
daughter.
Spent her early life a Hatfield Palace in
Hertfordshire and at St. James’s Palace.
4. Elizabeth ruled only after her brother and
sister ruled.
She was crowned as the Queen of England
in 1558 at the age of 25.
At that time, England was poor, weak and
torn by conflicts between different groups.
People hoped that Elizabeth would marry a
strong man who would guide her. But,
Elizabeth never married.
5. During her reign, Spain
attacked England with a great
fleet of ships.
Under Elizabeth’s rule, England
fought back and defeated
Spain.
6. The Queen encouraged the
sailors to sail to different parts
of the world.
Francis Drake was one of the
most famous sailors in England.
He brought back riches from
Americas, Asia and Africa.
As trade developed with the
other lands, England grew
wealthy.
7. Under Elizabeth, England
experienced renaissance
or
‘rebirth’.

William Shakespeare,
Christopher Marlour ,
Francis Bacon and Jon
Donne.
