  2. 2. The Life of Queen Elizabeth I <ul><li>Elizabeth Tudor was born on September 7, 1533. </li></ul><ul><li>The Roman Catholics of England considered her an illegitimate child. </li></ul><ul><li>Her dad was Henry VIII. </li></ul><ul><li>Her mother was Anne Boleyn. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Life of Queen Elizabeth I <ul><li>Elizabeth’s mother was beheaded. </li></ul><ul><li>Elizabeth was third in line to the throne and unlikely to succeed. When her father, King Henry VIII , her Roman Catholic half-sister, Mary was crowned Queen of England. </li></ul><ul><li>Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England in 1558, after the death of Mary. She was 25. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Life of Queen Elizabeth I <ul><li>She never married and never had any children. </li></ul><ul><li>She reigned as Queen for 44 years until her death on March 24, 1603 at the age of 69. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Developed a compromise to please the Roman Catholic and the Protestant churches; probably saved England from religious wars </li></ul><ul><li>The English Navy defeated the Spanish Armada under Queen Elizabeth’s rule </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>She funded voyages of discovery to the Americas; expeditions prepared England for an age of colonization and expansion </li></ul><ul><li>Under her reign, the arts flourished; miniature painting was at a high point and the theater thrived </li></ul>
  7. 7. Conclusion <ul><li>Queen Elizabeth I was a selfless queen. She did not marry because she wanted to protect England from foreign rule and civil war. </li></ul><ul><li>Her subjects called her ‘The Virgin Queen,’ ‘Good Queen Bess,’ and ‘Gloriana.’ </li></ul><ul><li>Her reign is considered one of the most glorious in England’s history. </li></ul>
